The Sacred Man

Hello, and welcome back to the Sacred Musician Podcast. My name is Brian Miller and In this podcast I am trying to become a better musician, better music leader, better man, and better follower of Christ and I hope you will join me in this pursuit. Today, I am talking about preparation. I use the example of a free solo rock climber, Alex Honnold, who climbed the most impressive rock wall in the US, which is a 3,000 foot wall, without ropes. I think we can learn from his example of preparation.

God has given me an abundant supply of wisdom through His Word, the ability to think that He gave me, the people that He has put all around me, and the information that is so easy to get these days. Now the question remains for me, and for you since you too can have the same wisdom, maybe not the same circumstances, but you can have access to the same wisdom. The question remains, “What am I going to do with all of this wisdom?” Am I going to live a life that honors God and makes good use of the wisdom I have been given? I certainly plan to give my best shot. I realize that I am not perfect and I will mess this up. But, the Bibles says that a just man will fall seven times and rise up again. So, I am going to keep getting back up.

Today I want to talk about something that is grossly underused and underrated. I am guilty of this myself. You might be thinking it’s praying or reading your Bible and yes, the same thing can be said about those as well and I have mentioned those in the past and these are the most important, but after these comes something else. That is practice. I don’t do enough of it. Who has the time for practice? Let’s just do a song we know so don’t have to practice. Or, let’s just see where the Holy Spirit leads. Or, I know how to play or sing so well that I don’t have to practice. You can put whatever excuse you want to there, but it does not change the fact that we need to be practicing. Why do we need to be practicing, you might ask, aren’t we under grace? If you think that Grace allowes you to do whatever you want without a care then you have not read through the Bible. Romans and James would be good books to read about that. So, why practice? Well, let me tell you. Here are a few reasons why I argue that we need to be practicing. Society would have you follow along and believe whatever it puts in front of you, but we need to be able to think for ourselves and know what we believe and why. I hope you don't just believe everything you hear. I hope you don't just play every new christian song in your church just because it is a "christian" song. I hope you are a thinker.

We talk about what events toook place to bring him to where he is now and what role he serves in his church. What I talk about today is how to choose music for a worship service on a regular basis. And, this is not something that I claim to have mastered. I just believe you should put some thought and effort into everything you do so that you can glorify God through it. Here are four important parts of this.

Make sure of the message

I am by no means saying that I get all of this perfect. But, it is important and I want to get better and I want to Give God my best. I hope that this is beneficial to you.
