Host Brian Buckley shares with us an exploration of the life experiences of Daryl Grigsby, a retired public works professional, author, theologian and Board President of Color Me Human in Nevada County. From childhood in Washington, DC, where he attended all-black schools, he received a degree in history at Chicago State University. His working career was focused on directing Public Works activities in San Diego, Pomona, Seattle, Kirkland Washington and finally in San Luis Obispo. As an adult, Daryl found a renewed faith through connection with a socially-responsive and inclusive Catholic congregation. While serving on the board of the American Public Works Association he attended a meeting hosted in Grass Valley, and he and his wife found the community a great fit aesthetically, and because of the variety and depth of cultural and artistic events and organizations. Settling here in retirement, Daryl became very focused on the mission of Color Me Human: to celebrate, elevate, educate and advocate with a goal of creating a safe and equitable world for blacks, indigenous people of color and LGBTQ folks, particularly in Nevada County. He is also a presenter for the Sabbatical Renewal Program at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley.
