It is Opening Day for Saluki Softball! The voice of Saluki Softball Mike Trude continues to introduce you to the Salukis through opening weekend. Today we spotlight Kiana McDowell. She Made an appearance in eight games last year for the NCAA Regional Salukis, while posting a 4.77 ERA in 7.1 innings pitched, allowing eight hits and seven runs (five earned), with one strikeout. She did pitch at LSU in the NCAA Regional Final, went 1.0 inning with one walk, no hits, and no runs allowed (5/19).

It is time to welcome in the UIC Flames on Saturday in Banterra Center! Logan College where she appeared in 59 games and posted a batting average of .467, on-base percentage of .505, and a slugging percentage of .650. She was a First Team All-Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC), First Team All Region, the GRAC Freshman of the Year, and JUCO All-American Third Team. Carder made 38 starts while appearing in 43 games. She was named MVC Player of the Week (3/19) after hitting her first career grand slam in a series sweep over Drake. She also had several key appearances for the Salukis in the postseason as she went 3-for-3 in the MVC Tournament as well as a 2-for-2 game against Cal (5/18) in an elimination game win.
