If I think that I must create myself with my choices, I will try to create myself with fear, works of flesh according to the law. I will consume life and excrete death. But if I think that God has already created me in His image—it is finished—maybe the urge to glorify myself would be satiated, and I will WANT to glorify Him.

How do you want to want the will of God? Maybe wanting the will of God is more like falling in love than shoulding on yourself. Do you realize that you are no better than anyone else? Do you realize that you cannot make yourself better than anyone else? Do you taste how liberating that is? You can have compassion on everybody else. You can love.

Does this offend you? There is nothing more offensive than grace. For in grace we must admit we're monsters feasting on flesh and drinking the blood of each other. But Jesus gives us His flesh and blood to eat and drink. And then we are His bride: one flesh, one blood, one body.

God gave the Israelites manna (literally in Hebrew, 'what is it?') in the desert as their daily bread. And for 1500 years God leaves them with that question: what is it? Then in John 6, Jesus says, "I am the bread of life who comes down from heaven." The manna—the "what is it"—was finally answered with a much better question: who is it?
