The Saucer Life

So a while back, I got an email from a listener asking what I thought my top ten important UFO books were. Not being one to waste a good idea, I decided that instead of telling them, I'd make it into an episode. I was going to put links to purchase the books here in the show notes, but it's kind of a spoiler, isn't it? So you're on your own! None of these are obscure and I played by the rules of "Important" books rather than "favorite" books, so some of these are not my favorites!

Click here for links to purchase the books. If you wanna be surprised by the list, don't click until you've listened!

I've got some upcoming online presentations (which would have been in person if that was currently an option). While streaming events might not be everyone's cup of tea, they provide a great deal more access to those who can't make it to on-ground, in person events for any number of reasons. So in lieu of putting "commercials" in the next few episodes (most of which are already finished...), I thought I'd provide a little more detailed rundown of what I'll be discussing at these events:

Saucer Life talk at Tecumseh District Library via Facebook Live -August 20, 7:00 PM Eastern

The Strange Realities Conference- September 25-27

So please forgive this little bit of promotion. And also, please consider attending either or both of these events. The folks at Conspirinormal, who are putting on Strange Realities, have lined up a vast and varied array of guest and you know that I urge you to support libraries whenever possible, so if you're able to catch the Tecumseh presentation, that would be great.

Thanks again for allowing this little intrusion into your podcast feed!

I first discovered Gray Highway when working on the Ceto's New Friends episode. It's a fun road trip through UFOlogical history.

Gray Highway is available cheaply on Kindle at Amazon. Used print copies seem to be priced out of the market for anyone sensible!

It's our first interview! We're talking with Matthew Kresal, who wrote a volume on the classic 90s show Dark Skies for Obverse Books's Silver Archive range on classic cult television. Whether you're familiar with the show or now, we hope you find the interview enjoyable! Also, keep in mind that I've never interviewed anyone before...

It looks like Amazon has some used copies of the Dark Skies DVD set. You can purchase Matthew's book directly from the publisher in either traditional or ebook formats. Matthew is on Twitter and has a page on Facebook, and we thank him very much for being on the show!

I don't know how I can make it any clearer than that. Here are few poems from Otis. Let us know which one is your favorite!

The story of Wayne Aho and Otis T. Carr is one of those that we've had various requests for ever since starting the show. I think this is a super fun story and I had a lot of fun putting it together.

You can find Wayne Aho's Mojave Desert Experience and Otis T. Carr's Dimensions of Mystery at Scribd.

John E.L. Tenney's new book, Theoretical Weirdo: A Mish Mash of Ramblings about Weirdness is available and it's great. In this brief Afterlife, I talk about what I like about the book.

I plunder a folder on a hard drive called "1980s UFO Clippings." There will be more of this. Oh yes indeed.

A while back, we looked at Ceto's New Friends, a controversial children's book by abductee L.A. Haley. In this episode, we examine the books that came before and after, detailing her experiences with the phenomenon as well as its effect on her life and relationships. Along the way there's a significant presence of government chicanery, touches of mind control, and assorted strangeness.

Lost was the Key is available used on Amazon.

Unlocking Alien Closets is still in print and available on Amazon. There are used copies available too.

If you're interested in it, the 1999 assessment of the "sticky shocker" is available here.

You can view her 2004 presentation here.

Jack Brewer's UFO Trail blog has a couple very interesting articles on Haley, her experiences, and what became known as The Carpenter Affair. These include An interview Brewer conducted with her in 2011 and an excerpt from his book The Grays have Been Framed (which is available on Amazon).
