It's entertaining enough, but it's an ineffective thriller. It's a big idea with no where to go and no one to guide it. Without a competent and talented cast, lead by Ariana DeBose, I'm don't think this would be good at all.

What should have been an easy blockbuster hit has turned into one of the saddest box office cases of 2023. "The Color Purple" made $18.1 Million on its Christmas Day opening, but it's projected to lose between $80 million and $100 million, and to make matters worse the industry isn't taking the "Oscar bait." What happened? Why did a movie with a seal of approval from Stephen Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey tank so quickly? Hopefully, this is a lesson learned for big studios: Stop spending four-quadrant money on one-quadrant movies.

I don't know if it's because it's an international film and we (Americans) are considered a foreign market or if Japanese studios think Americans won't enjoy it, but the noise surrounding this movie is too quiet and it's not getting the marketing it deserves. It's excellent! By far, it's the best Godzilla movie I've seen.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. If the point was to commemorate and celebrate 100 years of Disney, I expected better. The plot is weak, the protagonist is unlikeable and the sidekick goat is obnoxious. Disney is stuck in an identity and culture crisis and I'm praying they find their way out.

What an interesting choice to give us a protagonist we already hate, forcing us to question the limits of our capacity for compassion and empathy. The Hunger Games prequel is a bit rushed, but it's expertly cast and beautifully designed.
