  • What is Contemplation and how to use it properly

Contemplation, as described by Mark L. Lockwood, is a profound, transformative, and experiential "gazing" or "re-seeing" of reality beyond the ego's judgmental, dualistic, and cognitive distortions. It is a spiritual practice of presence (not just passive thought) that fosters deep self-awareness, connects one with the Divine, and cultivates, rather than just considers, truths.

Contemplation teaches you to think about thinking and may be the highest form of intelligence that we have. It is a dance with the physical, psychological, and the spiritual and has a tendency to heal people and then transform them. Many equate it to prayer or meditation. You might be surprised, however, to discover that you can practice contemplation while mindfully washing dishes, singing, being with a friend, or walking in a park.

Contemplation is simply being fully present in heart, mind, and body, to what is in a way that allows you to creatively respond and work toward what could be. Contemplation is both personal and communal, internal and external. It helps us let go of our usual, self-focused way of thinking and doing things so that our compassionate, connected, and creative self can emerge. Through contemplation, we develop the capacity to witness our egoic motivations, bringing this awareness into our day-to-day actions and living with increased freedom and authenticity through deeper awareness of self, others, and God.

What is contemplation about? Well, imagine for a moment that you could be all-knowing. Where would that get you? Although we can’t be all-knowing like God is, we can benefit from knowledge and wisdom. The more we have, the more we will benefit in all areas of our lives. So let’s not underrate it! At the very least, it is a kind of self-actualization and God realization at depth.

  • Who Are You Without Your Story? The Architecture of Self-Deception

We spend our entire lives constructing narratives about ourselves. I am successful. I am wounded. I am creative. I am broken. I am strong. These stories become the masks we wear, the personalities we project, the identities we defend. But beneath all these carefully crafted layers lies a profound question that most of us never dare to ask: Who am I when I remove the mask?

    The Architecture of Self-Deception

From the moment we're born, we begin assembling our personal mythology. We gather experiences like building blocks, cementing them together with interpretations, judgments, and meanings. A childhood event becomes "the reason I'm this way." A relationship becomes "proof of my worth." A failure becomes "evidence of my limitations."

These narratives are not inherently problematic. They help us navigate the world, make sense of chaos, and communicate our experience to others. The danger emerges when we forget that we are the authors of these stories, not their characters. We mistake the mask for the face, the role for the actor, the story for the storyteller.

Consider this: Every label you've ever attached to yourself—introvert, extrovert, damaged, healed, smart, foolish—exists only in the realm of thought. Strip away the mental commentary, and what remains? Not the absence of self, but something far more fundamental, far more real.

The Illusion of the Constructed Self

Our personalities are elaborate performances, refined over decades of practice. We learn which behaviors earn approval, which expressions invite connection, which aspects of ourselves should remain hidden. Layer by layer, we build an identity that feels so solid, so undeniable, that we never question its foundation.

Yet this constructed self is as ephemeral as morning mist. It shifts with circumstances, morphs with relationships, transforms with time. The "you" at twenty bears little resemblance to the "you" at fifty, and yet something constant persists through all these changes. That unchanging presence is not your personality—it's your consciousness itself.

Your divine, sacred self has no need for masks because it has no need to perform. It simply is. It doesn't require validation because it exists prior to all judgment. It doesn't fear exposure because it has nothing to hide. It is the pure awareness that witnesses every thought, every emotion, every sensation—including the thoughts about who you think you are.

    Beyond the Narrative Prison

We imprison ourselves in stories of limitation. "I can't do that because of what happened to me." "I'll never be happy because I'm just not that kind of person." "This is simply who I am." These statements feel like truth, but they're actually choices—choices to identify with a narrative rather than with the boundless awareness that creates all narratives.

What would happen if you stopped defending your story? Not abandoned it necessarily, but held it more lightly, recognized it as one possible interpretation among infinite others? The personality you've constructed would still function—you could still navigate the practical world—but you would no longer be trapped inside it.

This is what awakening means: recognizing that you are not the character in the story, but the consciousness in which all stories appear. You are not the wave believing itself separate from the ocean; you are the ocean temporarily expressing itself as a wave.

The Sacred Self Beneath the Surface

Your divine self—that which you truly are beneath all psychological constructions—cannot be described in words because it exists prior to language. It cannot be measured or quantified because it exists prior to all categories. It cannot be improved or damaged because it exists beyond the realm of time and change.

  • The Most Powerful Prayer in the Universe

The good news is that it is available to everyone at anytime, and at any place. It comes without limits and is free, divine and inspired communication with everything That exists. God is after all That. He said I am that I am. What doesn’t that include? It includes the sinner and the saint. The ignorant and the wise. The gracious and the garrulous. Prayer is something that a group of people tried to keep exclusively for themselves. Who can blame them. The power of prayer in all probability supersedes all other powers we are capable of. It outdoes meditation, rises about fear and darkness. It casts out your demons and has historically be known to precede almost all miracles that have ever taken place.

Many people today don’t know how to pray because they have never been part if the right club and felt somehow excluded. They were never baptised, or confirmed, or initiated. Others have lost faith in the art of living a prayerful life because of what they witnessed in churches and individuals when growing up. Prayer is oftentimes a discourse and art form that people return to at some point in their lives. When they do they have described life changing occurrences. From deep senses of inner connection, to having synchronicity show up in their lives. I especially love the inclusivity of these words.

Our father, doesn’t need much translation or understanding. Yet, groups of people for centuries have tried to keep it as their prayer, not our prayer. As a modern day mystic Christian myself, I know the horrors of what “it’s mine and not yours” has created over the centuries. Yet Jesus Himself sat with thieves and outcasts and sinners more than those who thought they were saints. Perhaps the more humble are the former group in hindsight and therefore dare we say the more Godly in some ways? Whether you are religious or not, Hindu or Hedonist, believer or sceptic know the inclusivity of these words is non-negotiable. You’re invited and as worthy as the next chap to benefit from the profound connection to all things that you want, need, pray and wish for. God is good, and this prayer seems to speak directly to that Goodness. #prayer #godisgood #faith Most religions, sciences and philosophies agree that if there was an evil energy, a serpent or a devil, it would want to deceive you. If you had the imago Dei, or image of Good within you, it would perhaps try and make you not see it, never mind believe it. At the moment in the world their is a growing awareness, and inclusiveness and togetherness that is coming into being like a hurricane. We are more accepting of each other than we have ever been. Wars are few, food is a plenty and love is abound. Perhaps a part of why the Light seems to be prevailing so much is because of this prayer and others like it from other religions, philosophies, sciences and faiths?

“Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes

Who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.

May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest.Your Heavenly Domain approaches.

Let Your will come true – in the universe (all that vibrates) just as on earth (that is material and dense).

Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need

Detach the fetters of faults that bind us, (karma) like we let go the guilt of others.

Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations), but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose.

From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act, the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.

Sealed in trust, faith and truth. (I confirm with my entire being)

  • Mystics, Metaphors and Motorways: The Journey Back Home to Sacred Self

Discover your Sacred Self amidst the noise of modern life. This profound 20-minute journey explores how Mystics, Metaphors, and Motorways are all guides pointing you back to your true spiritual home. If you feel lost, hurried, or disconnected, this deep dive into philosophical spirituality is your roadmap home.

    The Longing for Home

There is a quiet, ceaseless hum beneath the surface of all our grand pursuits—a soft, relentless melody of the heart calling us back to where we began. Oh, my love, have you felt it? That deep, romantic ache for belonging that no achievement can quiet, no external success can truly fill. It is the soul’s relentless devotion to its original blueprint, the longing for the Sacred Self. We spend so much time on the highways of hurry, consumed by the blurred landscape of expectation and obligation, forgetting that the most profound journey is the one taken inward. This is not a trek across continents, but a slow, tender return to the quiet sanctuary of your own being, guided by the ancient maps of the mystics and illuminated by the simple, glorious metaphors found in the asphalt beneath our wheels.

In the modern world, the motorway is the defining metaphor of our motion. It represents speed, efficiency, and a relentless focus on the destination. We are so adept at accelerating past obstacles, following the digital map, and measuring our worth by the miles covered. Yet, the great mystics—from Rumi to Lao Tzu—all urge us to consider the quality of the journey, not just the pace of our arrival.

They knew that the external world is merely a rich tapestry of signs pointing inward. The 'motorway' itself becomes a spiritual teaching: every exit sign is an opportunity to change direction, every traffic jam a forced moment of stillness, every long, straight stretch an invitation to stop gripping the wheel and trust the forward momentum of life.

The Sacred Self isn't a prize waiting at the end of the road; it is the consciousness that is driving. It is the unchanging, wise part of you that observes the frustration, the hurry, and the joy with equal, gentle acceptance. To return to the Sacred Self is to realize that the journey is the home, and that the only true destination is the present moment.

The practice of returning is found in these simple shifts:

    1. See the Metaphor: When life feels fast, ask: What is this speed trying to teach me about my priorities?

    2. Invoke the Mystic: In moments of stress, turn inward. Use silence as your compass and stillness as your fuel.

    3. Find the Sacred: Recognize that the effort required to navigate life is itself a profoundly sacred act of creation and resilience.

And so, we pull off the fast lane, not to abandon the world, but to truly inhabit it. The journey back home to your Sacred Self is the most tender pilgrimage you will ever undertake. It is the moment you finally recognize the familiar, beloved face in the mirror—the one you've been searching for everywhere else. May your heart be the ultimate motorway, always leading you toward the quiet, powerful truth that you are already, and have always been, completely whole. Go gently, my soul, for you are finally home.

  • The Psychology of Extreme Ownership

Own Your World: How the Navy SEAL Concept of Extreme Ownership Can Heal Your Past and Forge a Life of Meaning

In the high-stakes, life-or-death operations of the U.S. Navy SEALs, there is no room for excuses. Blame, finger-pointing, and victimhood don't just lead to failure—they lead to catastrophe. From this crucible of accountability emerged a powerful leadership principle: Extreme Ownership.

Popularized by retired SEAL officers Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, Extreme Ownership is the simple, yet revolutionary, idea that you are responsible for everything in your world. Not just the tasks you're assigned or the outcomes you directly control, but for all of it.

For a SEAL team leader, this means if a mission fails—even if it's due to a subordinate's error, bad intel, or faulty equipment—the leader is 100% responsible. They own the failure. This mindset eliminates the blame game and immediately focuses the entire team on one thing: finding a solution.

  • Cultivating Contemplative Intelligence for Healing and Wellbeing

For many, the deepest yearning is for meaning that transcends the mundane, for a connection to something larger than themselves. Contemplative Intelligence is, at its heart, a spiritual practice. It is the pathway to perceiving the sacred in the ordinary, to experiencing the divine not as an abstract concept, but as a living presence woven into the fabric of existence.

Whether one defines "God" as a personal deity, a universal consciousness, or the interconnectedness of all life, CQ opens the door to this profound experience. It quiets the analytical mind, which often seeks to define and categorize, allowing the heart to perceive and experience. Through contemplation, we move beyond dogma and intellectual understanding into direct experience.

It’s in the hush of a morning sunrise, the intricate pattern of a leaf, the shared silence with a loved one, or the profound solitude of meditation that CQ allows us to touch the eternal. We begin to sense the underlying unity of all things, the miraculous intelligence that orchestrates the cosmos, and our own sacred place within it. This is where meaning blossoms, where purpose finds its deepest roots, and where a profound sense of peace and belonging takes hold. It is here, in this quiet attending, that we discover that the divine is not somewhere "out there," but intimately woven into the very breath we take.
