As a fan of the Green Lantern characters, your trusty host Devin R Bruce was keen to talk about it. So he enlisted his pal Juliet to be the John Stewart to his Hal Jordan, and the two of them started Brownest Day, Greyest Night: A Lanterns Podcast.

To say that Juliet and Devin were lukewarm on Lanterns Episode 7 would be an understatement. But they due their due diligence and tackle "The Jordan Boys' Legacy" before branching off into more pleasant territory. Juliet introduces Devin to a classic Pennsylvanian snack. Devin has strong opinions on frozen desserts. They dissect the New York Times' lagest engagement bait article about the best TV of the 21st Century. Plus discussions of Absolute Green Lantern and the emotional spectrum of the DC Universe, and somehow also Immortal Hulk? He's green and emotionally maladjusted, so it's thematically relevant. Scotch & Comics loves a coincidence as much as the next podcast.

This episode's a little late because someone needed to roll over to the next month so that space would open up on his podcast hosting site. Is it worth the wait? Only you the listener can say! Actually that's not true: I can say, and yes, it is worth the wait. Despite not understanding the show's logic any more, Devin & Juliet still have a few thoughts about last week's episode of Lanterns. Devin and Juliet have very different opinions on Lanterns Episode Five: one thinks it's the best-written of the bunch so far, while the other rolled their eyes at the dialogue so hard they might be stuck that way. Lanterns Episode Four might have felt a little light compared to the previous Sunday's episode, but Devin & Juliet still find plenty of delicious juice to squeeze out of it. Juliet has thoughts about veganism and food delivery. Devin forgets the difference between a chipmunk and a squirrel. Plus love for Looney Tunes, more thoughts about The Wire, and a nuanced discussion about the art of making a mixtape. You might not love jazz, but Scotch & Comics loves you anyway. Or at least tolerates you begrudgingly.

• Benrinnes 17 year old, batch 7: Speyside, flowers and peat on the nose, really sweet at first and then the peat comes in; water doesn't really smooth it out but the initial sweetness is dulled.
• Glenburgie 16, batch 8: Speyside, sweet and light nose of banana & vanilla, smooth & sweet taste, butter & spicy finish.
• Corowa 4, batch 2: Australian whisky; deep deep amber, reddest whisky I've ever seen (aged in Muscat casks), chocolate and dates on the nose, dried fruit taste, long finish with a little spice and sweetness.
• Port Dundas 8, batch 3: single grain Scotch whisky from a defunct distillery in Glasgow, nose full of raspberries and cream and graham cracker, very oaky with a little vanilla, short-to-medium peppery and raspberry cream finish.
• Glen Moray 12, batch 6: Speyside, grass and slight lemon nose, tastes like grass/malt and…Corn Pops?, light oaky finish.
• Loch Lomond 21 year, batch 5: Highlands, lemony and acetone nose, slightly sweet & spicy, sweet finish that disappears almost immediately.
