In this, the first episode of the new year, I share various perspectives on resolutions, goals, and starting new. I found some insightful teaching on resolutions often being focused quite often on self. Paul shared teh ultimate goal to remember and that is to know Him more! Wrapping up this session are 8 ways to view this year as a new season.

Putting the X back in Xmas and 10 things Christians should think about regarding Black Friday.

Do you find writing Christmas using an X to be insultive, maybe even blasphemy? I did until just last week.

Find out why spelling Christmas as Xmas is more traditional and truer to the early church than our English spelling. And Benjamin Corey calls it laughable that after the day we celebrate and proclaim our thankfulness many turn their attention and focus on the biggest shopping day of the year. I am in agreement. His point is made not in a judgemental way but in an attitude for each one of us to consider our ways, looking inside our hearts. His 10 suggestions for consideration are great!

It's found in believers and non-believers. In this session I am addressing this attitude from believers. I see it across the Christian community on and off-line. It includes friends, family, and church leaders. And it upsets me.

I share a blog post from Philip Wagner addressing the question, What is the problem with Joel Osteen?

I have concluded the real question is what is wrong with us ... that when we choose to dishonor others rather than honor, even those we disagree with, we are falling short of the example and teachings of Jesus.

The hope of this episode is that we go forward and seek to honor one another. It's His way.

Self-righteousness is the topic in this episode. I read a powerful post by Frank Viola titled, A FAREWELL TO SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS.

It is taken from Chapter 8 of his book From Eternity to Here. Being right is sometimes being wrong.

As I think about these spiritual things, I find it a struggle to communicate my thoughts sometimes. I turn to listening and reading what others think and share. 

Here is a wonderful post by Frank Viola on the sin of self-righteousness. Listen closely as he shares the example Jesus set as he dealt with those with sin in their lives. And pay particular attention to the responses of the sinner and the righteous ... Mary Magdala and Simon, the Pharisee.

Finally, Episode 15 of the project.

Many weeks have passed and I've gone to record this episode many times only to be stopped by challenges, doubts, and even lack of motivation.

I was delayed after getting a phone call that my mom was dying. This just a few weeks after moving to Kauai.

What transpired was an experience that challenged many of my core beliefs, including the "calling on the name of the Lord." And the feeling that it's not about what WE say but all about what we do ... it's all about trusting Him and believing He is able.

I don't think I've been that clear as I share about the last few weeks. For some reason, I've been running up against constant resistance in posting this project, even to the titling of it! 

Things to think about:

* Calling on His name isn't about saying a prayer

* His spirit works in unexplainable ways and through unseeable means

* The Gospel is good news for the unbeliever

* There is hope for all those who come and call on His name

This is Part 3 of my thoughts prompted from reading the book, Filming God by Darren Wilson. This is the first session from Kauai, Hawaii, where I am working on a new project. (Drop by the web site for a picture /view from my present "studio" :)

Today I discuss the area of trust. I was challenged as the book concluded with going beyond just believing in God's word. The question presented was do we TRUST God in the profound areas of grace and the Gospel.

I have no doubt my beliefs have been and are strongly formed by my level of trusting Him. If my trust is low, I now see my theology can be, excuse the expression, messed up.

I am challenged by my lack of trusting God in my life. Not trusting God seems to result in my lack of belief. In the final pages of the book, I find myself thinking how the Church and its members (myself included) might look very different if we only trusted in His Spirit to keep and direct our lives. The good news is the realization that God is looking ot embace us as we seek to draw closer to Him.
