Due to his concern for Esther the king was unable to sleep so he called for reading material and recalled that Mordecai had saved him from a conspiracy. So he asked Aman what he recommended and believing the king planned to honor him, he suggested a parade. And the king commanded Haman to do so for Mordecai.

When Esther sees the king in his glory with an angry countenance she faints fearing for her life. And God changed the heart of the king, filling him with compassion. And he rushed to her side and asked her to declare her request. To which she responded: let the king come to the banquet I have prepared for him and Aman.

Mordecai persuaded Esther to speak to the king on behalf of Israel at the risk of her life; reminding her of her previously low estate and suggesting that her royal position may have come from the Lord for this very purpose. And if she fails to do her part, salvation will come from another quarter and her and her family will perish.
