David received word that the hearts of Israel are with Absalom, and so he fled Jerusalem with the mighty men and his servants leaving ten concubines behind to keep his house. David sends a spy into Absalom's midst to disconcert the counsel he was receiving and report his plans back to David.

Two years after Joab restores Absalom to the kingdom, he repays him by setting his field on fire to get his attention -- for the sake of getting an audience with the king. Joab complied and David met with him.

Amnon continually lusted after Tamar until he raped her. Absalom waited two years and invited all the king's sons banquet and slew Amnon and then fled.

Nathan told David a parable from the Lord that exposed his guilt and informed him, Bathsheeba's child would die by the hand of God. David confessed his sin and his life was spared. After their son died, David comforted Bathsheeba and she later bore Solomon.

David sees Bathsheeba bathing on her roof from his palace and takes her and later she informs him she is with child. He sends for her husband hoping he will sleep with her to conceal the matter. But her husband nobly refuses to comfort himself while Israel battles. After getting him drunk and keeping him a few days, he sends a letter by his hand to Joab instructing Joab to ensure he dies in battle. Afterwards David takes his wife.

Naas, the king of the Ammonites died and so David sent comforters to his son. However, his advisors cautioned him these men were sent to spy out the land, so he humiliated them, sent them back and hired mercenaries who arrayed themselves in battle against Israel. Joab, his brother, and David then humiliated and subjugated the armies that came against them. And Syria refused to fight against Israel afterwards.

David enquires whether anyone from the house of Saul is yet living that he may show them the mercy of God. Siba explained that Mephibosheth was lamed while escaping with his servants from a young age. He was in Lodebar. David brings him up and restores all of Saul's land to him and invites him to eat at his table.

David led Israel in many battles and began amassing great wealth that would later be used in the temple of the Lord.

David tells Nathan the prophet he wants to build a temple for the Lord. At first Nathan agrees, but God comes to Nathan at night and corrects him. David is not to build the house of the Lord, but his seed after him will.

David brings the ark of the Lord to the city of David, but along the way, his friend dies steadying the ark after the ox causes it to teeter.

Melchol the daughter of Saul sees David dancing naked before the ark of the Lord and confronts him. He admonishes her and she dies childless (eventually).
