After a few weeks hiatus, we're finally back! And with an absolutely amazing episode, this week we have on international spoken word artist, Amal Kassir!  "Amal has performed in 10 countries and over 100 cities, from youth prisons to orphanages to refugee camps. Her work in the community involves humanitarian initiatives for Syria, speaking out and organizing against Islamophobia, and empowering the voice of the marginalized through writing & speaking."  We talk about her journey as a writer (starting off as a waitress!), finding solace through creativity, and being your fearless Muslim self in today's landscape. We're joined this week with Cyrus McGoldrick!  He's currently a PHD candidate at Ibn Khaldun University in Turkey and former Civil Rights Manager at the New York chapter of CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations. In today's climate, it can almost seem impossible to some to combine both due regard for the sacred and concern for the nation's affairs. Scholars and activists can be on opposite camps at times and extremes are definitely taken in certain matters. On this week's episode we discuss how to bridge spirituality and politics in today's time. We also delve into the topic of political prisoners, specifically the cases of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui and Imam Jamil al-Amin.

But the reality is that there's 99 of them, 99 ways to call out to your Beloved. The King, The Best of Givers, The Self-Sufficient, The Bestower of Faith, etc. Each name is a window into experiencing closeness to your Lord, and each attribute is an opportunity to fall that much more in love with Him.  This week, we're joined by best-selling author, poet, and pharmacist Shaziya Barkat! Her book, "knowing You," is a collection of spiritual poems, each one tackling a name of Allah and making the reality of each more personal to the one who reads it. We talk about her book, but also her experience as a Muslim writer, how she got into poetry, and influences behind her body of work.

Mohamed Bahe is a community leader from New York. He's the founder and executive director of the nonprofit organization Muslims Giving Back, as well as the director of Muslim Community Center. He's had a huge hand to play in major community projects that have helped the ummah on a local level in his hometown and even on a global scale. Asiyah Women Center (which serves domestic abuse victims and women facing economic hardship), Mercy Bakery (feeds communities across the world, starting from Yemen), etc. Brother Bahe has a view on charity that's pushed him to do more and more to help out his brothers and sisters, and it's one that's not shared much anymore:  Charity is selfish.
