Gigi Langer is the author of 50 Ways to Worry Less Now: Reject Negative Thinking to Find Peace, Clarity, and Connection. Her book is full of the ideas she used to free herself and others from worry. It also encapsulates her personal story which involved relationship failures, codependency, perfectionism, sexual abuse, and addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Today she is thirty-one years into sobriety and is on The SHAIR Podcast to talk about what she’s learned from her training in psychology and over 30 years using tools from recovery programs, cognitive therapy, energy work, and a variety of spiritual and scientific teachings.

Claire Rudy Foster grew up closeted at home and bullied at school. Alcohol was his way of releasing his anger. Claire also wanted to become a famous writer, and getting drunk and loaded on heroin were all part of the romantic artistic persona.

The problem was that he was always too high or hungover to ever write anything.

In 2007, Claire found recovery and discovered that getting clean didn’t mean all his problems would go away. Misery was the true gateway drug, and Claire had to make peace with his anger and his identity before he could be sober and happy.

Today, Claire has proved that a writer doesn't need alcohol or drugs to be a brilliant creative. He's become a lauded published author and also co-wrote American Fix with Ryan Hampton from Mobilize Recovery. And this is just the beginning!

Kate Coatsworth is part of our SHAIR Sobriety Network and recently celebrated 1000 days in recovery from drugs and alcohol.

She has also been battling cancer for the last 7 months, and she is fighting this battle sober.

Kate used alcohol and drugs to run away from herself. She moved to different countries and bounced around to different jobs, partying hard every night.

When she tried cocaine, nothing could make her stop. Kate’s addiction took over. She lost her family and friends. Her body shut down. She believed her rock bottom was going to be death. 

By chance, a friend brought her to a twelve-step meeting. Although Kate didn’t think she belonged there, she eventually softened and surrendered to recovery.

After building a strong 2-year foundation in sobriety, Kate went to the hospital for a headache. Doctors discovered that she had a tumor the size of her fist and she was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.

Kate’s recovery from addiction prepared her with this battle for her life. Listen to her courageous story about staying sober with cancer, one day at a time.
