Warden Dawson and special guest Barbara Gould continue the conversation about factoring in generational factors in our interaction and leadership. Each generation parents differently, values differently and is motivated differently. Understanding these factors will facilitate greater success in our interaction as well as our ability to inspire others to follow us. Leadership is about connection. Connection is about communication. Communication is about the effective use of language. This episode helps us make sure we are speaking the “right language”.

Regardless of our level of responsibility, corrections officers are leaders. As we move up in the “chain of command”, part of our responsibility is to “inspire” those we are leading to follow us. There is a great deal out there about cultural factors, educational factors, personality factors, etc., but how much do we consider generational factors? Research shows that this is a major factor, and one that is often ignored. Warden Dawson and special guest Barbara Gould begin a discussion about working with different generations and considering what each generation values.

Warden Dawson and special guest, Barbara Gould continue the “wellness” conversation by confronting the difficult topic of physical health. The Corrections profession always seems to focus on “getting the job done” and sometimes at great cost. Though it seems like a minor investment at the time, if we don’t make our own physical health a priority, it can cause some serious issues. Some of those issues may end up cutting careers short. Barbara shares some common-sense and simple tips to make sure we are taking care of ourselves physically. Prepare to be convicted.
