St. Croix sheep are the most parasite resistant breed, so why don't I raise them on my farm? This video describes why I raise Dorper sheep instead of St. Croix sheep as a meat production breed.

Have you ever wondered how much meat to expect from a beef cow? Or how much meat you'll get off a finished pig? What about lamb or eggs from a chicken? Today's video discusses how much meat and eggs a good quality farm animal will produce. This is important information to consider in light of how much food each farm animal consumes. It is important to weigh food input vs. food output when you grow your own animals for meat. I hope this info helps you launch your small farming journey!

PRINTABLE Farm Animal Feed Cost PDF: https://bit.ly/FeedCosts
Have you ever wondered how much to feed pigs, chickens, cows, or sheep? This video breaks down how much each farm animal eats and how much it costs in 2022. All of the information in this video is from numbers form my own farm. I run a pasture based, regenerative grazing operation with cows, sheep, and chickens in upper East Texas. My climate allows for year round stockpile grazing, as long as I do not over stock my acreage. The information in this video is great for those running a farming for profit operation, or ones creating a farm business plan. The cattle figures reflect feed inputs from a custom grazing operation I manage on stockpile forage from November through February. This information is important to have as feed costs are rising in 2022 and will continue to rise. I hope you enjoy this video on the various feed requirements for pigs, chickens, cows, and sheep. -the Shepherdess

Joel Salatin interview: https://youtu.be/iCDuCO9Etio
In this video I talk about skyrocketing farm feed inputs and how to reduce them. There is a lot of opportunity to reduce cost with grazing management on your farm and ranch. This video addresses an experience I had buying for my co-op and how the prices went up 5-12% overnight! This video talks about which farm animals require more feed (pigs and chickens) and which farm animals can be run with minimal inputs. Here in upper east Texas, I graze Dorper sheep and Beef cattle on pasture with little or no inputs. I hope this video on ranching and farming feed costs helps you to determine what you CAN do rather than stressing over what you CANNOT do.

In this episode I compare goats vs sheep to answer the question: are goats more profitable than sheep? I evaluate USDA market pricing from San Angelo, Texas the past 5 years. The sheep and goat market is EXPLODING int he USA right now. Since since 2017, sheep prices are up 77% and goat prices are up 60%. This video talks about the advantages of both sheep and goat farming. If you are willing to commit to the learning curve, goats and sheep are a very good option for a ranching for profit operation.
*Disclaimer, all opinions are my own. Please do your own research before making any financial investments.
I hope this video covering the economic side of sheep and goat ranching in the USA will help you!
