1 John 4:1-6

Within the early house churches in the region of Ephesus, false teachers began to mislead the children of God.

Today John gives some instructions to the early church on how to identify who the false teachers are. The answer all centers around the question "Who is Jesus?"

1 John 3:11-24

Today we take another look at 1 John 3:11-24 and focus in on both

1) Jesus' supernatural love, and

2) Our new ability to love supernaturally.

Matthew 28:1-10

This Resurrection Sunday we take a look at Jesus - the unstoppable Word of Life - and the earth shaking message of the resurrection.

1 John 3:11-24

Today John continues to describe the "family values" of the children of God, by commanding us to love one another.

The text leads us to a comparison between the way Jesus loves, and the way Cain hated.

We also take the time to Biblically address the subject of hate - putting it in it's proper context (sin) - and recognizing how often it is misdirected (people) and calling us to repent.

An Excursus on 1 John

Today we pause to look at the relationship between faith and works. Our guest speaker is Patrick Bowler.

1 John 3:4-10

Today the text gives a comparison of two families: The Family of Darkness, and The Family of Light. The text gives us insights on the values of each family, and highlights the beauty of Jesus and the Gospel call to abide.

The key question becomes: Are you practicing the presence of God?

1 John 2:28-3:3

Today John gives assurance for believers in the context of "6 realities."

1) We are little children.

2) We are instructed to "stay put" (abide).

3) We will see Jesus.

4) God has given us the gift of His love.

5) We aren't like other families.

6) We will always be children, just not little.

1 John 2:18-29

Today the text leads us into a warning against false teachers that deny Jesus.

How does that same warning apply to our culture today? What should our response be? John answers this with the call for us to abide in Christ.

1 John 2:15-17

Today John gives us three exhortations (or "do not's) and two promises. Subjects include:

The Lust of the Flesh

The Lust of the Eyes

The Pride of Life.

We conclude with two promises:

1) This world is passing away.

2) God's Kingdom is eternal.
