The podcast currently has 12 episodes available.
It's total randomness in this episode of the Shot In The Dark Mysteries podcast, as I sit down with Nikki Glahn, who has hosted or attended 11 of our mysteries, only two of which were associated with SHOT - so she knows a thing or two about the mingle format verses sitting everyone down around a table, and shares some of her best advice for how to host, her favourite moments, and a growl or two from her adorable dog, Piper.
Today we chat with Bekki from The Speakcheasy, a prohibition lounge located in Barrie, Ontario and the main place we throw our mysteries locally. Bekki offers up tips on decor, music, costumes, drinks and more as we talk about how to turn your home or event venue into a 1920s Speakeasy for your roaring twenties murder mystery party!
On today's episode we sit down with Susan Diaz and Will Lamont from C+P Digital (the geniuses behind the podcast "The 4am Report") and pick their marketing minds to discover how to create a buzz around your party with the ultimate goal of getting the "Good Guests" - the ones who bring the fun and the good vibes!
Today on the podcast we talk with Lisbeth Damkjaer, who was the mastermind behind our A Gangster Murder at the 1920s Speakeasy launch party in Copenhagen, Denmark, in May of 2017!
We discuss choosing the venue, the food selections, and drumming up interest in your event when you have a lot of competition from other events on the same night!
Merry Christmas! We are coming at you this week on the blog with a discussion about Christmas parties, specifically Christmas murder mystery parties, and our creative director Leigh's top recommendations for your Christmas and holiday murder mystery parties from our holiday catalogue – AND some that really AREN'T from our holiday catalogue but just – fit.
November is actually a little late to be planning your Christmas party. Everyone's schedules fill up so quickly for Christmas and the holidays that a lot of people are having to push off their holiday parties into January and February. So it can be a kind of competition to get the 'good guests', because everyone is so busy.
Bringing a murder mystery into your Christmas party is a fantastic way to pull your people together and make your party stand out from all the other holiday parties over Christmas. We have huge amount of our clients throwing Christmas parties, not only just in their homes, but also Christmas parties for companies.
Corporate Christmas parties are huge thing, especially using a murder mystery party, because it's an interactive way for people to connect. It's a refreshing change from people talking about work the entire night. And really, who wants to talk about work outside of work, am I right?
A lot of people are planning their company or holiday parties into January and February these days, which is great because it actually allows for a bit of a shift in themes. Hosts are not focusing as much on “Christmas” with holiday parties anymore. The themes have really opened up as hosts realize that with a holiday party that takes place in January or February, they can also loosen up on the theme; after all, at that point, Christmas is over and people are sick and tired of Jingle Bells and Christmas hats and lights - they're over it. So even though it's a “holiday party” people are switching up their themes to be less “Christmas” and more “Awesome in General”.
With this in mind, we have picked seven recommendations for your Christmas party murder mystery this year.
Our first recommendation – The Winter Wonderland Murder, is number one for a reason! It comes in both co-ed and all-female, and is flexible enough to fit into any party situation. There are so many things you can do with it.
The victim, Betty Crosby, is a footballer's wife so it takes place in a mansion and every year she throws this Christmas spectacle. The guest list includes politicians and celebrities and Betty has a stylist who comes in and dresses her for the evening and the society pages report on what everyone's wearing. And then there's this Grand moment where the double doors to this room are thrown open and there she is standing atop this ladder, ready to put the star on the Christmas tree. Only, this evening, when the doors were thrown open, Betty Crosby is found dead under the Christmas tree.
With this who-dun-it, you can have people come casual, oryou can have people dress up a bit, which we tend to do more around the holidays, but ultimately, it's up to you as the host to designate how people will dress for your party. You can have people come in jeans. You can encourage your guests to rent a designer dress for the evening or wear their tux – which most of us don't have the opportunity to do any other time.Betty Crosby's party is also a fundraiser. It was really important to us at SHOT to work this feature into the plot because we have this opportunity as hosts to actually get our people on board to help give back to the community. The charity is not designated, so if you want to declare your holiday murder mystery party a fundraiser for a local cause, it fits right into the plot of this mystery. Again, that's completely optional, but it's an easy way to help raise some money or take donations for your local charities. Our murder mystery kits are used all the time for fundraisers, and we love to give back not only our own community,
I am excited to be chatting with Irene Byrne this week. Irene does so many different things. Among these things, at one point, she ran a book club. Her book clubs spent a year reading the classics, one of which included Alice in Wonderland. So it was a really natural thing for her and her book clubs to use murder Wonderland as a bit of an event and they did it with a very unique and very proper high tea.
She also came to our Gangster Murder At The 1920s Speakeasy launch party in Copenhagen, Denmark. So she has experienced two very different ways of using our ministries and brought her own design and flair to the book club event. So without further ado, let's hear from Irene and hear about her Book Club Murder Mystery using Murder In Wonderland.

Discussing tips for deciding the date of your 2019 Halloween party as well as 6 (and a half!) recommendations for which mystery to choose for your 2019 Halloween murder mystery party!
On this episode, we're going to take a look at a fundraiser that we threw in November of 2018, and I have a very special guest with me to discuss it: Astrid works with Shot In The Dark Mysteries, and if you have reached out to us on any of our social media for customer service or suggestions or help, there is a good chance that you have spoken with Astrid. This chat really ended up being about 90 minutes, we've had to cut it down to 15, so bear with the clicks and pops and things like that, because there's a lot of great information for anyone interested in using our mysteries to throw a fundraiser. Of course, as always, we do refer to visuals, pictures, videos, things like that. If you want to take a look at these, you can find them at our website, shotinthedarkmysteries.com, click on the blog, and you can also view them on our YouTube channel at shotinthedarkmysteries.com. So, without further ado, join Astrid and me on the dock for a very, very heavily edited, shortened conversation about a fundraiser using Murder at the 1980s Prom.

For this episode I'm excited to talk to you about a party that used one of my favorite mystery party investigation games. It's actually a really unique mystery because it's a prequel to one of our best sellers. Not only that it was put on by someone that I think is a total riot, and her name is Meghan.
So sometimes I'll talk about parties that we as a company have put on sometimes, we'll talk about fundraisers, local events, etc. Occasionally, very occasionally, I have the pleasure of getting to be involved in my client's mysteries. And this is a perfect example of that. So, to tell you a little bit about our hostess, Meghan, I just love connection stories. I love how people come together, and this is a cracker. So, Meghan actually sold me a car, and we immediately hit it off. We were sitting in our office for probably a good hour just chatting about nothing to do with cars and everything to do with mysteries and escape rooms. We just really had a lot in common where that was concerned.
So, I shouldn't have been surprised at all when she showed up at one of the events that we throw locally at a very cool place called The Speakcheasy. She came with her mom and they solved The Sly Mr. Foxx, and of course they came out in their best Gatsby dresses and did a fantastic job of sleuthing out the mystery. So, when Meghan had her birthday this year, what she wanted to do was put on her own mystery for her and her group of friends in their home. Of course, she doesn't need me to be there. Nobody really needs me. I mean, we have clients all over the world. There are hundreds of these going on, on any given Saturday night and I definitely do not need to be there. So, I kind of elbowed my way into an invitation. I said I'll facilitate it, and then you can just enjoy your birthday with your friends and you don't have to think about anything.
I also knew that she was going to go completely crazy with decorations and things like that. So, I wanted to be there and take some pictures and talk about it afterwards, which brings us to this episode of the Shot In The Dark Mysteries podcast!
