There was a lot of ground covered on #TheShowKC today. Fall was here in a big way this morning with the chilly air. Jen is still crying over This Is Us...and apparently, everyone else is, too! We woke up to news that Hugh Hefner had passed away on Wednesday and track celebrity reaction for you. Truta is bowling Thursday night for a fundraiser (7p, No Other Pub in the Power and Light District), while Jen goes to the hockey game at Sprint Center. There are teenagers out there who could not care less about driving. We talk to some parents whose kids have had no desire to get their license -- and then some who can't wait. Then, Jen's dad called to weigh in on the whole teen driving issue (he is a teacher). Jen is not going to get a flu shot this year, she doesn't like them. We debate who will get one this year. Listeners call in to play Playboy or No Way, where we ask you what celebrities appeared in Playboy. Truta once went to a Playboy party, but neither saw Hugh nor got any numbers. That's about right. See you Friday!
Lots of stuff in today's #TheShowKC - this was supposed to be the day it actually turned into fall, but that hasn't happened yet. We debate the finer points of coffee. And you know what that coffee does to you... sends you to the bathroom a lot, just like Jen discusses in the Impossible Question. Who got voted off of Dancing with the Stars last night? (Spoiler alert!) What does it take to be basic? Truta wants to know what it means to be "basic." The crew and listeners reveal which TV shows they are most excited to see return. Truta remembers what it was like to record (and re-record) your outgoing answering machine message. Shaylee has a problem...she saw a guy once and didn't feel a connection. Now she's trying to figure out how to get herself out of the situation. Listeners chime in from all directions. Ahh, the power of the text line! See you Wednesday!
Truta survived his 20th high school reunion. We get the lowdown on what happened plus turn it into a game of "Who Had The Lamest Weekend?" Will Joey repeat? A celebrity pregnancy in today's Entertainment News. Hannah kicked off our vent line by getting mad at school buses. This lead to some funny vents. After news we get a round of Google Predicts, which we hadn't played in a while. Fun #TheShowKC for Monday. See you tomorrow!
Just in time for the weekend it's a best-of the week SHOWcast. We start with talk of Truta's 20th High School reunion and what he must have been like in high school. Lindsay Arnold from Dancing With The Stars joins us to talk about this season of the show. Last season Lindsay got 2nd place dancing next to Cubs catcher David Ross. This year she gets to dance with actor Jordan Fisher. We ask you what store makes it impossible for you to have any willpower. Billy Brimblecom is childhood friends with comedian Jason Sudeikis. His organization, the Steps of Faith foundation, is hosting a fundraiser at the Uptown Theater, November 12th, lead by Jason Sudeikis and a cast of comic bigwigs including Wil Forte and Fred Armisen. Billy came on to talk about the night in comedy and music. Truta's known for Googling stupid things, so we ask again - what have you Googled recently. This week's Gen-X vs Millennial has Shaylee losing. Again. Finally, some idiot thinks the world is going end this weekend. Saturday, September 23rd, 2017. In case it does, what would you do if the world were coming to an end? Listen to #TheShowKC - that's what we say! Have a good weekend!
Billy Brimblecom is a childhood friend of Jason Sudeikis, the SNL and movie star. After losing his leg to cancer, Billy founded Steps of Faith, a foundation which helps amputees without health insurance get access to costly prosthetics. On November 12th, Jason Sudeikis and some of his other famous friends will host a fundraiser for Steps of Faith, a night of comedy and music called Thundergong. Billy tells us all about it. Then, we dip back into the archives for a conversation with Counting Crows drummer, Jim Bogios. It was a year ago - on the exact same night, no less - that Counting Crows took the stage with matchbox twenty, much as they will do again Wednesday evening. Finally, Larry the Cable guy is an ardent - if not downright obnoxious - supporter of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team. So much so, that he was credited with leading the charge to fire the school's athletic director after the team's dismal start to the season. Larry joins us to talk about a positive aspect of football, a donation drive for his Git R Done Foundation that will put the winners in a suite with him during the Nebraska-Ohio State game.
Joshua Rowland, the CEO of Lead Bank, joins us to talk about the For Change Initiative, a partnership between Lead Bank, the city of Kansas City, Missouri and the Cornerstone companies that will help small, local contractors do business with the city. Then, we celebrate 37 years of the Westport Flea Market - and the naming of the Flea Market Burger as the 37th best in the NATION - with owner Joe Zwillenberg.
A snooze kind of morning on #TheShowKC. Truta added more things to the list of things he hates other people love: coffee and lakes. The list continues. Jen got Pumpkin Spice deodorant. For reals. The Royals have a chance to ruin the Indians winning streak. As it turns out, no one likes coffee. We got an e-mail from a family who just moved to KC and wanted the scoop on the things they HAVE to do to be true Kansas Citians. We got some great ideas from Lawrence to Louisburg. Would you give someone a kidney? We debate whether we'd give a body part to someone. Then we chat with Larry the Cable guy! Larry is winding down his gigs for 2017, working on new material and cheering on his Cornhuskers. He also has a contest going where he will take 30 winners to the Nebraska-Ohio State football game. Check out his website and Facebook for the scoop. See you Friday!
U2sday is in the books on #TheShowKC and Producer Joey went to the concert. He thought Beck and U2 were both amazing! We recap some of the highlights of a big U2sday in KC. But, lo and behold, not everyone is a U2 fan, which got us talking about things we hate that EVERYONE else seems to love. Peanut butter? Princess Bride? Soccer? Cake!?? One of our favorites, Casi Joy stopped by the studio to talk up her appearance Friday night at the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest. We also got her to play Gen-X vs Millennial and won Ed some hockey tickets. See you tomorrow!
We are celebrating U2sday on #TheShowKC today. Be sure to check out Shaylee's All Access video as she and Truta went backstage at the U2 concert. Did they get to meet Bono? You'll have to listen and find out. Also discussed: expired food, people are excited for the U2 show, remember Venture stores, what was your the first CD you purchased? All of that and more on The Show!
Today is the 16th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on New York, DC and Pennsylvania. Jen and Truta remember where they were at the time and how they relayed the news to their respective audiences. To continue with the serious stuff we give the latest on Hurricane Irma. Then it's on to the goofy as we try to figure out who had the lamest weekend. It all comes down to food because....well, why not? It's always all about food with #TheShowKC! Oh, there's some "It" talk in there somewhere, too.
