Wow, what #TheShowKC today! The studio was on fire. Jen, in the blue trunks fighting out of the right corner, versus Shaylee in the red corner, while Truta was Judge Mills in the middle. In the midst of all of the other big stories -- Houston floods, Danny Duffy's DUI -- comes the news that Taylor Swift will give "credit" to fans who share her videos online, download her album, take selfies and tag Taylor, blah blah blah. Those credits will bump fans up further in the line to buy concert tickets when Taylor's tour is announced. This would lower the status of those who don't -- or can't -- share stuff online. Is that fair? Listen to the back and forth from millennial Shaylee and "Jen-X". Funny enough, we play Gen-X vs Millennial later in the program. What are your thoughts? Tell us! Text 816-576-7102 or email: [email protected]
Sorry for no SHOWcast lately: technical issues have prevented us from posting for a bit. But, we are BACK! #TheShowKC had lots of stuff today: Hurricane Harvey update; the Royals are historically bad; Jen's Impossible Question has something about expired things in the fridge; later we play a game to find the oldest thing in our station fridge; Truta gets thrown in the torture closet for 10 minutes since Mark was voted out of the Big Brother house; some dude snuck in to Money Mayweather's security detail and got to sit in the 3rd row. Lots more. And we'll be back on the regular from here on out. Promise.
Today on KC Closeup: Brad Eastman was a normal guy on a run, training for the Walt Disney Marathon, when something in his body felt "weird." That weird sensation was his body telling him that something was wrong. When Brad made it to the doctor, an MRI showed that he had a brain tumor. Brad underwent surgery, chemo and other treatments, and today will run in the 15th Annual Head For The Cure 5k at Corporate Woods. Brad's story contains many wake up calls for people who ignore some of the warning signs the body tries to pass along. In the second part of our show, Independence, MO Mayor Eileen Weir calls in to talk about this year's Santa Cali Gon Days festival, starting up this Friday in the historic Independence Town Square. As the festival celebrates its 45th year, it will take on the theme of Main Street 1849. Mayor Weir tells us all about it. Have a good one!
A busy KC Closeup today... first, a Swan Race on the Missouri river? Stefan White from Friends of the Park joins us to talk about today's event at Berkley Riverfront Park. As talk of the sun and moon eclipses all other stories, we dig into the science of eclipses with Daniel McIntosh, PhD, Astronomer and Astrophysicist at UMKC. Daniel fills us in on the best place in the metro to see the eclipse, why we have to wear glasses and what actually happens during "totality." Then we talk about an eclipse party happening all weekend long in downtown Independence, MO. Tonight you can see the movie "ET" on the town square, followed by numerous eclipse activities on Monday. Finally, a preview of our chat with Brad Eastman, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor four years ago. Brad will be taking part in next week's Head for the Cure 5k run/walk. Today we discuss Bachelor in Paradise; Taylor Swift's big win; the eclipse; the first day of school; new Shatto "eclipse" milk; strange job openings at the RenFest; being late to job interviews;Kid Rock for Senate; Tiger Woods DUI and more!
As Truta does #TheShowKC in his underwear (from home, people) topics include: the upcoming eclipse, fake glasses, the Princess Diana specials, the Teen Choice Awards, Bruno Mars wore a Royals jersey on TV, Coldplay and Truta's kazoo, taking a sign to a concert, Ginger Zee is pregnant again, some mom wants to change mother nature's schedule, and more! See you Tuesday!
The American Royal BBQ contest is one of the premiere events in Kansas City. Lynn Parman, CEO of the American Royal, comes in to chat about the changes coming to the World Series of Barbecue this year, including a date change to Labor Day Weekend. We also talk with Lynn about the mission of the American Royal outside of barbecue time. Plus, in our continuing series about the 2017 Head For The Cure 5k, we talk with Tim Elliott. This is Tim's 10th year participating in Head For The Cure, which means he has lived with brain tumor for over a decade. We talk with Tim about what Head For The Cure means to him and how his life changed after his diagnosis.
Welcome back to school, Shawnee Mission, KCK and others! Moms everywhere got a little break today as the kiddos headed back to class, and #TheShowKC celebrated by asking how you are #Blessed and showing the love by giving out tickets to some of the big events coming to KC! More Taylor Swift talk, we listen to Pink's new song (spoiler alert: it's killer!), a little Big Brother recap, Chiefs preview, and more! Happy Friday! Go Chiefs! See you Monday.
Last night was the Bruno Mars concert and someone is missing from #TheShowKC this early morning.... oh wait, Shaylee was asleep! Go figure! We talk Bruno, the eclipse, the Taylor Swift trial, the Princess Diana special, and more! Jack Bergeson is a 16 year high school student from Wichita, KS. When it was decided that Governor Brownback would move on as an ambassador and people began to pay attention to the 2018 election, Jack discovered that the Kansas constitution does not actually spell out any rules for who can run for the top position. No age limit, no nothin'. So Jack has decided to run for Governor. We talk with him this morning. In one of Truta's favorite stories we find out about the wedding crashers who left the gift of $1 -- and now the married couple wants to meet the crashers! We get a Bruno Mars review from a friend. Then we play Beat Shazam. Shaylee is so bad at the 80's! Have a great day, see you Friday!
Truta did not bring the Royals good luck last night; they lost to the Cardinals big time. Today on #TheShowKC we talk about Royals of a different kind: the royal family. This is the 20th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news? Michelle Tauber, head royals writer for People magazine, called in to talk about the new documentary special put together by People and ABC TV. Part One airs tonight and Michelle gave us some sneak peeks at a few stories that will be in the special: gave us goosebumps!! (Check it out at 8p on Channel 9) In other news, the sold out Bruno Mars concert is tonight and The Show got their hands on one last pair of tickets. We play Gen X vs Millennial and Shaylee upsets the text line with her lack of 80's knowledge. All in today's Show... see you tomorrow!!
