Our hearts go out to the Ventura family, the Kansas City Royals and all of the Royals fans, on the passing of Yordano Ventura. To us, he will always be #ForeverRoyal
From #TheShowKC today: a young man was doing some temporary work for a company and was supposed to be paid $200, but a bank error put $20,000 in his account. He didn't tell anybody, spent the money on drugs and a Playstation, and is now going to jail. When was a time you were overpaid? Did you fess up? Then, a cocky Dallas Cowboys fan got a huge star tattoo with Super Bowl 51 around it. And yet, unfortunately, if you remember, Dallas got knocked out of the playoffs last week. What tattoo do you regret? Then, for some reason, the girls thought it funny to make Truta get an MU tattoo. NO WAY! Finally, the Accent Game is back...will today's caller understand the crew and their crazy sayings?
From #TheShowKC today: Jen came across more weird dating sites and we asked listener Kim whether they were real or not. Then, a buddy of Truta's feels like he lost the playoffs for the Cowboys since he did not sit in his lucky spot during the game. What sports superstitions do you have? Listener Teresa plays Gen X vs Millennial and send Shaylee to school once again. Jen found a study that says getting the names of your kid and dog confused is actually a good thing and means you love them both! We have another stirring round of The Accent Game that Truta pretty much ruined up and down. Lady Gaga is going to play Super Bowl 51 and we break down things that could happen during her performance including her coming out in character, singing from the roof or bashing Trump. Enjoy!
From #TheShowKC today: our favorite Uber driver, Jeff, called in with the latest addition to his uber-mobile...a karaoke machine! If you get a white Explorer with the third seat as your ride, you may be in luck! Here's a good use of the Open Mic section of the new KC1021 app: get an Uber, sing karaoke, record it and send it to The Show! We might play it on the air (more than likely). Also on today's show...Patriot's head coach Bill Belichick does not know anything about social media. Is it SnapFace? Insta(nt)Chat? GramBook? The Show plays our new game: Accents! Finally, Alex Saxon is a local guy from Liberty, MO who stars in the new Netflix movie, Coin Heist. Check him out right now!
Here's a little Ice Day action for ya as you wait for football: enjoy our conversation with Barenaked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart, just prior to their Rock the Ribbon show with Susan G. Komen of Greater Kansas City. By all accounts it was an awesome concert and raised a lot of money to be used by Komen right here in KC. Enjoy! #TheShowKC
It's playoff time in Kansas City!! This weekend our #Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh #Steelers in a divisional round game at Arrowhead...and the city is fired UP! Helping us get pumped up today is a hall-of-fame fan (literally)...X-Factor! To balance him out, we discovered that comedian Eddie Ifft - who is playing Stanford's this weekend - is a huge Steelers fan. Listen for the fireworks...especially after X-Factor's 58-0 score prediction. #TheShowKC #GoChiefs!
From #TheShowKC today: what clothing does the opposite sex wear that turns you off? (Note to self: no visors!) We get a visit from a crafty Leawood mom who is turning her talents into a reality show. Make sure to catch Tamara Day (and her dad) on Bargain Mansions this fall on DIY Network. Tamara tells us all about her skills in remodeling and furniture rehabbing, and even helps some listeners hone their skills. Josh Denny, the host of Food Network's "Ginormous Food" called in to chat up the new episode. Josh travels all around and gets to try things like the 19 pound gyro sandwich or the 30 pound stack of waffles. And Truta is fascinated by a recap of The Bachelor so much he has to hear the audio which....is pretty awful.
On this edition of KC Closeup: Evan and Randy started the Ziyak app to let people know what's going on in Kansas City. It launches on Apple and Android on January 14th. Get the scoop on the app. Brock Bagby, Director of Programming for B&B Theaters takes us behind the scenes of the company's newly renovated Shawnee location, including a tantalizing description of the new Grand Screen - a 3 storeys tall, 6 storey wide high definition showpiece. Finally, comedian Will C talks to us about a benefit he's headlining this evening at Improv KC -- the Cancer Can Suck It benefit, in honor of friends of his undergoing treatment for cancer. $20 gets you entry to see 12 comedians; there will be a silent auction and a lot more.
Wrapping up a great week of #TheShowKC! It was cold today and nobody can park in a garage; Jen teaches us a lesson in why you should completely scrape your windshield before you drive; Truta watches Oprah; everyone loves Jacqui's shaved head; you MUST download the new KC1021 app and send us a message through the Open Mic feature; Shaylee's new boyfriend; Ed Sheeran has new music and that makes Truta happy; Marc Malkin from E! News came on talk about the Golden Globes...what film up for a Best Picture award did Marc basically crown as the "best film of all time??" Listen and find out! We get into long distance relationships and if they actually work. Great stories of true love from afar here...and we try to find Shaylee a date to Coachella. In fact, we did...there are just a few rules she would have to follow. Have a great weekend!
We all made it through the snowstorm to bring you #TheShowKC! Here are some of the things we talked about today: Jen narrowly avoided an armed robbery. We briefly chat with a crime lab custodian. Mariah's ex weighs in on her NYE performance. Comedian Will C (Modern Family) called in pump up his Cancer Sucks comedy benefit this Sunday at the KC Improv in Zona Rosa. See 12 comedians for $20! More jokes about KU-KState and why Truta's daughter is obsessed with the Wildcats; Truta is OK with KState more than if she like Mizzou. Guys are more likely to get their partner to drink than women. Woman finds 4 foot anaconda in her toilet. Jacqui shaved her head to show solidarity with her sister, who has a brain tumor; this is the best, most beautiful, loving thing we've seen in a long time! Incredible day...thanks for being here.
