David Collins currently works as a clinic manager in the psychology department at the University of Texas in Austin.

He undertook a double-major in religion and psychology at Dartmouth, a masters in contemplative theology at the Graduate Theological Union, another masters in world religion at Harvard, and he has a PhD in clinical psychology.

In today’s episode I spoke with the cognitive scientist and philosopher Kevin Connolly. Kevin’s work focuses on what he calls perception-based learning, which shows that there are deep and important links between the practices we engage in and the way our perception is formed, all the way down to the physiological structure of the brain and the body. He has a great new book out called, Perceptual Learning: The Flexibility of the Senses, which is available now wherever books are sold. As I mention in the episode, Kevin’s book really does feel like a justification for everything I’m doing here at TSV, so finding his research was pretty edifying. We talked about perceptual transformation and practice in wine tasters, soccer players, meditators, and more.

Jeremy Johnson is an author, editor, and teacher. He founded the new media learning platform Nura Learning and works for Revelore Press. I spoke with Jeremy about the evolution of consciousness, new media and digital technologies, and the work of Jean Gebser, who is the focal point of Jeremy’s new book Seeing Through the World: Jean Gebser and Integral Consciousness. Michael Tremblay is pursuing his PhD in Stoic philosophy at Queen’s University. Outside of philosophy, he is an avid competitor in different martial arts, holding a black-belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He also wrestles for Queen’s University.
