I had the privilege of sitting down with Monica May, a radio host whose story is nothing short of inspiring. Monica’s journey began in the projects of New York, where she learned the value of hard work, resilience, and survival—qualities that would later define her remarkable career in radio. You can hear Monica on Star 94.5 hosting “Monica May’s Point Of View”. Many conversations are built on today’s hot topics and issues concerning African Americans.
Monica’s journey in radio is just one part of her incredible story. Beyond her professional success, she has made it her mission to give back to the community by educating and empowering young girls. Drawing from her own experiences, Monica understands the challenges that many young women face.
Recognizing the need for better education and support around issues like pregnancy, drugs, and sex education, Monica launched the nonprofit Let’s Spill the Tea, breaking communication barriers between parents & teenagers during critical young adult years.
Tune in to hear more about Monica May’s incredible journey and the powerful work she is doing to uplift and empower young women. For those in Central Florida, you can join the Let’s Spill the Tea event on September 28th at Valencia College West Campus.

Celebrating Cultural Unity and Literary Passion at the Orlando Blasian Book Fair
I’m so psyched to talk about the team behind the Blasian Book Fair Orlando!
The Blasian March proudly combines forces with Make Us Visible Florida [MUV FL] and Kizzy Books & More to present the first ever Blasian Book Fair in Orlando on Saturday September 14th, 1 – 5 PM, in Orlando, FL at A Perfect Union Art Gallery in West Oaks Mall, 9401 W. Colonial Drive. In partnership with FusionFest and A Perfect Union Art Gallery, this public event offers free books from Black, Asian and Blasian writers to bridge our communities and share similar histories and struggles for justice.
Rohan Zhou-Lee is the force behind the Blasian March, a movement that has grown from a local initiative into a nationwide phenomenon. Trenessa Williams is the founder of Kizzy’s Books & More, an independent bookstore committed to embracing the African-American culture and the joy of reading.
Together, they share their stories, challenges, and visions for the future, all while gearing up for the highly anticipated Orlando Blasian Book Fair.
Rohan shares how the movement was born out of a desire to foster solidarity between Black and Asian communities, particularly in the face of rising racial tensions. They spoke candidly about the challenges they have faced along the way, from organizing events to navigating the complexities of cultural unity.
Trenessa’s deep passion for books and commitment to creating a space where diverse voices are celebrated is electrifying. I can’t wait for Central Floridians to come out and meet Trenessa to learn more about her store and share her love for books.
We are excited about the upcoming Orlando Blasian Book Fair, an event that promises to celebrate cultural diversity and literary passion. The Book Fair represents a unique opportunity to highlight the intersection of culture and literature and celebrate the voices of Black, Asian, and Blasian authors.
With over 100 books already donated from publishing houses like Haymarket Books, Scholastic, and Simon & Schuster, the Blasian Book Fair in Orlando will offer the community stories written for and by the Black, Asian, and Blasian communities alongside their intersections.
The free book fair includes Native literature to honor the people indigenous to this land. Attendees – dress and show off your heritage pride. There will also be a lineup of panels, performance art, including a lion dance, and a cosplay runway show! Everyone is welcome to participate.
Special appearances include rapper and activist Jason Chu, nationally acclaimed and award-winning teen writer Sumer Strawbree, and more! To support the event, you can donate to our Go Fund Me fundraiser, which directly benefits Kizzy’s Books & More.

In a world where the narrative of beauty is often narrowly defined, 14-year-old Sumer Strawbree‘s voice emerges as a powerful testament to resilience and self-love. Her book on affirmations which has sold over 10,000 copies, “Black, Brown, and Beautiful,” delves into the transformative experiences of being bullied in elementary school due to her appearance.
Sumer opens up about her journey, sharing the struggles she faced and how she overcame adversity. It was wonderful to hear her heartfelt story, learn about the inspiration behind her writing, and discover her empowering message for anyone who has ever felt marginalized. This is a conversation you won’t want to miss—it’s time to celebrate every shade of beauty and embrace the strength that lies within.
We are so excited to have Sumer as one of our guests at the upcoming Blasian Book Fair in Orlando at the West Oaks Mall. The 1-2 combination of MiOsc is back discussing the deep-rooted philosophy of Wah Lum Kung Fu. We reflect on how its practices often clash with the individualistic mindset prevalent in Western culture.
Oscar shed light on the importance of developing trust in your sifu (instructor), emphasizing that this relationship is built on respect and humility—qualities that are sometimes overshadowed by an American emphasis on self-expression and autonomy.
We also discuss the idea that we are not our snowflakes. Fight Club anyone? Wait, the first rule of … never mind.
Wah Lum teaches us the value of community, discipline, and understanding our place within a larger whole. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of traditional kung fu and its relevance in today’s world.

Greg Rucka and I Discuss Biden’s Endorsement of Kamala Harris on The Mimi and Greg Show Podcast.
In this episode, we discuss President Biden’s recent announcement and why endorsing Kamala Harris is the right move for the future of our nation. Ready for a Rucka Rant? Well, it’s more of an episode rant, as we dissect the last few days in politics. This was recorded on Tuesday, July 23.
The timing of President Biden’s announcement couldn’t be more critical. With the political landscape shifting rapidly and the 2024 election cycle gearing up, the administration’s decision to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris signifies a strong commitment to continuity, stability, and progressive values. In our podcast episode, Greg and I unpack the significance of this endorsement and its potential impact on the upcoming election.
Greg has a deep understanding of political dynamics and I enjoy learning from our conversations. Our hope in this decision is that it will unite the Democratic base, attract undecided voters, and counteract the opposition’s narrative.
We couldn’t help but express our deep frustration with the media landscape and the pervasive influence of capitalism on political discourse. The relentless pursuit of ratings and clicks can distort important issues, and not only undermine the integrity of journalism but also detract from the crucial conversations we need to have about our nation’s future.
Plus – Lazarus fans, we do talk a bit about the comic!

In the world of fitness and coaching, few names resonate as deeply as Coach Dan John. Known for his practical wisdom and no-nonsense approach to training, Dan and I have been exploring the classic tale of “The Sword in the Stone” for the past few years.
Dan highlights how intentional communities can create environments where individuals not only achieve personal goals but also contribute to collective well-being, much like a well-coordinated team achieves success together.
Dan also delves into the history of war, exploring it through the mythic narrative of “The Sword in the Stone.” This timeless story, popularized by T.H. White’s novel and Disney’s animated film, tells of young Arthur, who pulls the enchanted sword from the stone, marking his destiny as the future king.
Dan John’s exploration of intentional community and war history through “The Sword in the Stone” provides a unique perspective on personal and collective growth.
In a world that often feels divided, Dan’s insights remind us of the power of unity and the timeless value of learning from our shared history and stories. Whether you’re a coach, an athlete, or simply someone who enjoys reading, these lessons are as relevant today as they were in the time of King Arthur. You don’t need to read the book to enjoy this episode, but I highly recommend it!
I am very grateful to call Dan my friend and love the opportunity to learn from him. I hope you enjoyed the episode. If you did, please share this podcast with others and rate it on your platform of choice.

About the Museum
Martial Arts History Museum aims to promote an appreciation of America’s cultural diversity by using the martial arts as its gateway into sharing how Asian history became part of American history. It is not a who’s who of the martial arts, neither is it a sports museum, rather, it is an educational facility teaching visitors about art, culture, history, and tradition.
