That is not a campfire story we made up, it’s one of the most infamous Victorian London reports that helped launch a legend. We start with the earliest accounts, the repeating details, and the unsettling pattern of attacks that seem designed to terrify rather than steal.

From there, we zoom out to the world that allowed the myth to catch fire: fog, patchy gas streetlights, industrial smoke, and a city primed for rumor.
