The Skol Hop

If you’ve been around The Skol Hop for any length of time, you should know that we love Iowa Beer. So much so that we only drink Iowa brewed beer on our episodes. This week is RAGBRAI week in Iowa, which only Iowans truly understand. We snagged River to River from SingleSpeed Brewing out of Waterloo as well as Reclaimed Rails Polka Band out of Bondurant. Both great Iowa Beers that we enjoyed! We also talk about everything pre-training camp coming up. Sam Darnold cracked the NFL top 100 list, Jordan Addison might be suspended, and training camp is starting. Lots to talk about and lots to look forward to!We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol!Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! Friend of the show Forrest joins us this week as we discuss the second round of NFL Top 100 players to be revealed. Andrew VanGinkel had a career-best season in 2024 and landed himself at number 88. Forrest’s Bears are somewhat absent on the list currently, but we talk about some Vikings and Bears that could still make the list. We also chatted about Kirk’s recent comments on the Netflix QB series about how he seems to regret leaving Minnesota. Then we continued our topic from last week, only this time we bantered about things we love about sports. We tried another Field Day Brewing beer on this episode. This time it was the Czech Dark Lager, and it was awesome! We talked about a particular Viking making it onto the NFL’s top 100 list. We also talked about preseason games and if they’re worth going to or not. Finally, we run down a list of things we hate most about sports. We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Taking a page out of George Kittle’s book, we discussed some things we’d do to guarantee a Vikings Super Bowl like he did recently on Bussin’ with the Boys. Let’s just say, there’s plenty of things we’d both be willing to do to bring a title to Minnesota. Then we chatted about the new season of Netflix Quarterback series with a familiar face. Lastly, we talked about some key Vikings departure that could come back to haunt the Vikings this coming season. We did all of this while enjoying Field Day Brewing’s Bro Mance. We cover a lot of ground on today’s episode. First we discuss the passing of a Vikings legend, Jim Marshall. We both hope they decided to enshrine him in the hall of fame some day. Then we talk about how JJ McCarthy is apparently crushing it so far at Vikings OTAs and Christian Darrisaw made his return to the practice field, which is a very surprising but awesome thing. Kwesi got his bag and will be a Viking for the foreseeable future. And Josh Oliver also signed a nice extension. Lastly, we both agreed that we would not want to see Jaire Alexander in purple. Not to be a downer, but sometimes being a Vikings fan downright sucks. If you’ve ever felt that way about this team, than this episode is a space for you to listen to us air our grievances about the misery of being a Vikings fan. We drink some pretty good beer (Big Grove’s Citrus Surfer) while we do so, but that may be the only redeeming factor in the episode. We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! We featured a beer from a new brewery on today’s episode. We tried Dimensional Brewing Company’s Ca$hin’ Czech$, a dark lager that was surprisingly good. Then we got into topics including the Vikings possibly trading for a tight end or a corner back as the offseason kicks into high gear. We also talked about the new Protector of the Year award that will be given out by the NFL and teams that currently have similar odds to the Vikings to make the Super Bowl.  We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! With a I-O-W-A Amber in hand from Adventurous Brewing, we dive deep into NFL owners voting to approve NFL players participating in flag football in the 2028 Summer Olympics. We also spend some time talking about another successful Minnesota team, the Timberwolves advancing to the Conference Finals for a second consecutive year. Lastly, we get into the weeds of the 2025-2026 NFL schedule as it pertains to the Vikings and give our “too early” predictions on how the team might fare this season. We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! As we await the release of the 2025 NFL Regular Season Schedule, we take a look at the Vikings opponents for the upcoming season and theorize about all of the possibilities. We take turns analyzing the most interesting matchup and the game that worries us the most as Vikings fans. We discuss all of this while enjoying another Iowa Craft beer, this time from a brewery down the street from us. We tried Adventurous Brewing’s Dark Lager. With a malty, toasty vibe and hints of chocolate and caramel, we couldn't help but have a few. We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! We give our reactions to the 2025 NFL Draft while enjoying the Iowa IPA out of Firetrucker Brewery in Ankeny, IA. What a great beer! Everything seems to be looking up for the Vikings right now. JJ McCarthy seems healthy and ready to go, Randy Moss’ son might go to rookie camp, and Andrew VanGinkel re-signed with the Vikings for the upcoming season to bolster the defense.
