The Skol Hop

The Mega Cake Stupid Desert Sour from ReUnion Brewing has been haunting Evan at the grocery store for some time now, and finally he had the guts to pick some up! Fear not, it’s a great beer! Dustin Baker made an appearance for the first time in a while and we talked about everything from the Luka Doncic trade to Cooper Kupp’s fit on the Vikings to possible running backs the Vikings could pursue this offseason. As always, Dustin brought some helpful insight to Vikings fans trying to sort out the team’s priorities in free agency and the draft. We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! With Big Grove’s Into the Woods Kettle Sour to sip on, we recap the AFC and NFC Championship games that ultimately resulted in another Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl. As with any Chiefs game, the refs played a big role in the outcome and so we couldn’t help but get into NFL officiating and where we think things are headed with that. We give our Super Bowl predictions as we discuss which we’d rather see: A Chiefs Three-Peat or Saquan and Hurts getting their first ring. We end up being split on our choices, but if there’s any merit to the Cousins Curse we may see a three-peat. Lastly, we watch a video from JoshLilJ where he and JJ McCarthy buy a bunch of pizza and bless others with free pizza. Pretty cool to see from the future QB1 of the Vikings! We spin the Wheel of Purple Punishments one final time due to the fact that the Vikings lost in the Wild Card round to the Rams. Our backs, and our spirits, are a little sore, but we’re Vikings fans so we’ll recover. We dissect the tough loss, we look at some tweets in Skol Patrol, and we look ahead to everything that the Vikings offseason could entail. All this while we sipped on No Coast’s Coffee & Cream Porter, which was delicious! Also, how do you pronounce GIF? We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! It was a day of mourning around The Skol Hop studio as the Vikings dropped their final regular season in embarrassing fashion against the Lions. We broke our Iowa beer rule and drank Surly Brewing’s “Before I Die” lager, an homage to the struggle Vikings fans have endured for far too long. We get into some Iowa beer later on, enjoying Backpocket’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Stout and talk roses, thorns and game balls from the week 18 loss. In Skol Patrol, we take a look at three different provocative tweets and we close out the episode by previewing the Vikings matchup in the Wild Card round of the playoffs against the LA Rams.  We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! The Vikings successfully swept the Packers in the regular season and we’re here for it! The Vikings are 14-2! We try IPA Positive from 5 Cities Brewing, a red IPA that supports our local blood bank, and it is amazing. Austin had to spin the Wheel of Purple Punishments because he picked the Vikings to lose this week 17 game against the green team. His punishment was a little uncomfortable at times, but he persevered! We also take a look at a controversial tweet that’s been making the rounds in our newest segment “Skol Patrol.”  We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! The Vikings are 13-2 and are heading to the playoffs, but Evan picked the Seahawks to win in this week 16 matchup with the Vikings. The Wheel of Purple Punishments was pretty nice to him this time around and he was able to secure a win in an eBay auction for a sweet Jordan Addison rookie card. Austin got to try the Friends’ Vanilla Porter from River Ridge Brewing, and it was life-changing. We also introduce a new segment where we find hot takes on Twitter and talk about them. Evan kicked things off by flipping the script of a Lions’ fan’s tweet about how not all 12 (now 13) win teams are built the same.  We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! As the Vikings wrapped up their 12th win of the season over the Chicago Bears, we had friend-of-the-show Forrest on to talk all things NFC North. We tried 4 different Iowa brewed beers on this episode. Austin had SingleSpeed’s Mint Tip the Cow, Forrest had Confluence’s Gray’s Lake Nessie with Coffee, and Evan had two from River Ridge Brewing - Friends’ Vanilla Porter and Lucky Catch Irish Red Ale. We enjoyed them all as we watched the second half of the Vikings-Bears Monday Night Football matchup in Week 15.

While Austin couldn’t smuggle some Iowa Beer into Jamaica, he enjoyed some good old fashioned Red Stripe and Evan enjoyed a Cherry Pylon from Twin Span Brewing in Bettendorf, IA. With beers in hand, we hang out (virtually) to gush over the Vikings convincing win over the Falcons in week 14. We cover everything from Sammy D’s 5 touchdowns, Addison and Jefferson combining for over 260 yards, and Byron Murphy snagging an impressive 6th interception of the season. There were so many great aspects of this game and it was hard for us to keep it short! We also look ahead to the Vikings taking on the Bears in a week 15 Monday Night Football divisional showdown.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Austin had to spin The Wheel again, the Vikings keep on trucking, and we got the opportunity to hang out with Dustin Baker and Janik Eckardt of Vikings Territory, Purple PTSD, and Vikes Now. With the Vikings win over the Cardinals in Week 13, they improved to 10-2. Austin picked the Cardinals to win in his preseason picks and The Wheel forced him to the Sprite Challenge. He did pretty well and only burped a few times. After that we enjoyed chatting with Dustin and Janik about the 10-2 Vikes and we looked ahead to the Kirk Cousins’ return to US Bank stadium in Week 14. While we hung out, we enjoyed a Mas Mexican Lager from Keg Creek Brewing. Very delicious! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode!
