The Skol Hop

We celebrate our favorite team being 4-0 with some free beer compliments of Titonka Brewing out of Titonka, IA! They provided us with their Rooster Tail Red and their Middle of Nowhere New England IPA. Both were great! And so was our conversation as we recap all that happened in the Vikings win over the Packers, making them the final undefeated team in the NFC. We also look ahead to the Vikings trip across the pond to London for a matchup against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets this coming week. Evan had to spin the wheel of Purple Punishments this week for incorrectly picking against the Vikings. We both picked the Vikings to beat the Jets this coming week and we’re hoping to avoid the wheel! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! The Vikings took it to the Texans in Week 3 and we both picked the Vikings to lose in our preseason picks. You know what that means…The Wheel of Purple Punishments strikes again!  If you’re looking for some entertainment (and a couple of dudes who like drinking beer and talking about the Vikings), you won’t want to miss this. While we suffer the consequences of the Wheel, we enjoy the Eagle Amber Ale from Iowa Brewing Company out of Cedar Rapids. We talk highlights from our trip to the Iowa Podcast Awards, the Vikings absolute dismantling of the Texans in Week 3, and look ahead to the Vikings trip to Lambeau to take on the Packers in Week 4. If you stick around, Austin pays up on the 13 pushups he failed to do in Episode 58.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! The Skol Hop makes their predictions for a week 3 showdown against the Houston Texans at the Minnesota Vikings!

We made it to the Iowa Podcast Awards and had a blast recording a live episode while we were there! Of course the Vikings had to go out and beat the 49ers, which meant that we couldn’t say the word “Vikings” per the Wheel of Purple Punishments. We netted roughly 80 pushups between the two of us, but it certainly could have been worse. In between bouts of pushups, we sipped on 5ive Cities Brewing’s Crushin’ On Amber and talked about the victory by our favorite purple team! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! The Vikings  beat the 49ers  in the home opener at US Bank Stadium! Austin and Evan share their initial reactions to the win!

A quick shameless plug to head to iowapodcastawards.com/vote and vote for The Skol Hop for the People’s Choice Award! Football is back, baby! Fall is here and we kicked things off the right way by sipping on a delicious beer from Toppling Goliath - the Caramel Apple Fandango. Put quite simply, it’s autumn in a can. We highly recommend! In addition to great beer, we had a Vikings victory to talk about and we escaped the wrath of the wheel of Purple Punishments for now. (We did spin the wheel preemptively for our next episode, so check that out!). We dissect the Vikings win against the Giants in Week 1 and look ahead to the 49ers in the Vikings’ home opener. A quick shameless plug to head to iowapodcastawards.com/vote and vote for The Skol Hop for the People’s Choice Award! We’ve tried a lot of different Iowa beers in 55 episodes, but today we came across a new brewery and it did not disappoint! We tried Keg Creek Brewing’s Midwest Haze as we preview some of the upcoming Purple Punishments that we’ll subject ourselves to if we incorrectly pick the Vikings games this season. We also got the chance to hang out with Dustin Baker from VikesNow and Vikings Territory about his final thoughts on the preseason, the 53 man roster going into Week 1 against the New York Giants, and the Star Tribune article recently published interviewing former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. As always, we loved chatting with Dustin and can’t wait to do it again! And Keg Creek makes really good beer that we’ll definitely be trying more of! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! A quick shameless plug to head to iowapodcastawards.com/vote and vote for The Skol Hop for the People’s Choice Award! It’s almost fall, and you know that that means? Amber beers and NFL Cutdown Day! Thanks to Gezellig in Newton, IA for the delicious Amber Lager we were able to enjoy. While sipping on these we discuss the Vikings final preseason game against the Eagles and the inevitable roster cuts that happened just a few hours before we started recording. Now that the Vikings roster is down to 53 men, we discuss some of the surprising cuts that were made. We also discuss a few players who, surprisingly, made the team. Of course, we know things will change in the next few weeks, but it’s always interesting to see how things shake out after training camp and preseason. Finally, we give a little preview to a new segment we’ll be introducing after the Week 1 game against the New York Giants, Purple Punishments. Stay tuned!   Grab your favorite beverage and join us! A quick shameless plug to head to iowapodcastawards.com/vote and vote for The Skol Hop for the People’s Choice Award! Joined by friend of the show Forrest this week, we enjoy Exile’s Gnomey’s Travels while we touch on all of the major Vikings news from the past week (McCarthy out for the season, Gilmore and Corral join the Vikings). We also make some snap predictions on NFC North records, and it’s a toss up on who will finish worse in the division: Vikings or Bears. (Hopefully it’s the Bears!) Of course we had to take a deeper look at the most recent preseason game between the Vikings and Browns. Lewis Cine shows promise after a lackluster start to his career and Ryan Wright has seemingly secured his spot at punter. Will Reichard seems to be the right choice at kicker and Dalton Risner could be a surprising cut candidate in the coming week. All this and more on this 54th episode of The Skol Hop!
