The Skol Hop

Austin guesses correctly the Hazy Forecast IPA from Backpocket Brewing. We also get a chance to hang out with Dustin Baker. With Dustin we talk about the Dalton Risner signing, the weakest spots on the Vikings roster currently, and surprising (or not surprising) cuts the Vikings could make this offseason. Before hanging out with Dustin, we briefly discuss the historic Justin Jefferson contract extension and what that means for Justin and the Vikings moving forward.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Austin brings another mystery beer and Evan guesses the style and brewer before the full reveal of Peace Tree’s Get a Little Hazy hazy IPA, and it was delicious! While sipping on these, the boys chat about what tier the Vikings could be heading into the 2024 season, basing things off of the current betting odds to win the Super Bowl this coming season. Unfortunately it doesn’t look super great for our favorite team, but we remain optimistic! Additionally, there have been a ton of click-baity rumors about the Vikes trading away Justin Jefferson. We take a deep dive on that topic, explore all the hypotheticals, and conclude that JJettas belongs in Minnesota. What do you think? Are the Vikings a low-tier team in 2024? Does Justin Jefferson play for a different team this season or next? Drop a comment below and let us know! And of course, grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Evan brought the beer this week and continued the Mystery Beer tradition. He also composed a poem/riddle to help Austin guess! With SingleSpeed’s Ctrl Alt Bier in hand, we discuss the Vikings tight end situation going into the summer months and the addition of Robert Tonyan. We also take a deep dive into a Vikings Territory article by Dustin Baker on the “Mushiest” spots on the Vikings roster currently. Then, Austin had the opportunity to hang with a few guys from YouBetcha! It may be long, but it’s worth a listen! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Austin brought a mystery beer this week and it was a good one! Exile’s Shark Wrangler is excellent! Because it’s episode 40, we pay homage to, arguably, the greatest #40 in Vikings history: Jimmy Kleinsasser. Though he wasn’t a stat monster, he was the definition of a Viking during his tenure with the Purple team. Finally, we spend some time dissecting Dustin Baker’s article on Vikings Territory talking about 4 free agents the Vikings could pursue with their remaining $17 million in cap space. Evan brought the beer this week and it’s the first time ever that we’ve featured the same beer twice on the show. After a few guesses, Austin nails it by guessing Big Grove’s Burch the Bear Brown Ale! Of all the beers we’ve had so far on this podcast, that’s definitely one worth having more than once! Once the mystery beer was discovered, we dove into all the of the scheduling possibilities that lay ahead of the Vikings in the 2024 season. Knowing the opponents and locations of the games is nice, but as of recording the official schedule hasn’t been released, so we spend a good amount of time discussing what could happen to the Vikings this year. We round things out with a quick discussion of which Vikings on the roster were most negatively impacted by the Vikings draft selections. Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Joined by friend of the show Forrest, Austin brings a mystery beer wrapped in tin foil that Evan and Forrest have to guess. It takes a few minutes, but eventually they guess correctly that it’s Great Revivalist’s Peach Wrangler! The guys enjoy a few of these while recapping the draft for both the Vikings and Bears and ultimately dishing out letter grades for each team. After a few weeks away from the desk, we’re back at it, sipping on some surprisingly delicious Blood Orange Wheat from Reclaimed Rails Brewing Company of Bondurant, IA. Being that this was recorded less than 48 hours from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, we give our final pre-draft thoughts and predictions and we also dive deep into some prop bets and picking some over/unders. Then, we bust out some trivia trying to guess the last 3 NFC North 1st round QBs and the best NFL players to come from our alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa. We’re joined once again by Dustin Baker of VikesNow to discuss the upcoming draft in a little over a week! Some talking points include the Vikings’ propensity to draft college teammates, the interesting situation the Vikings find themselves in at the Kicker position, how to navigate the season of smokescreens, diplomatic responses, and how much to read into everything you hear surrounding the NFL Draft, and the agonizing position the Vikings are in when it comes to drafting a quarterback. Dustin brings his wealth of knowledge and offers some reliable takes as we approach the most important draft in Vikings franchise history (arguably). We also played a little beer “Guess Who” and tried to guess what the other was drinking based on its appearance and a process of deduction. Austin enjoyed Five Cities Big Dog, while Evan sipped on SingleSpeed’s Tiny Dancer. Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! On this special episode of The Skol Hop, we break down our Top 10 Vikings’ players of all time! There’s a little debate as to what constitutes a top 10 list. Austin picks 10 different players in no particular order, while Evan counts down from 10 to 1. What do you think? How would you construct your Top 10 list and who would be on it? Let us know! Oh yeah, we also enjoyed a delicious beer from No Coast Brewing called Make Waves! We would definitely recommend it! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! We did it! We brewed our own beer and tried it for the first time with friend-of-the-show and master brewer behind the project, Forrest. We crack open the first bottles and give our first impressions of the beer we brewed a while back. It did not disappoint! We also get into Forrest’s thoughts on the draft, both for the Vikings and his Bears. Near the end we play a little Quarterbacks as Beers game, which was pretty fun!
