The Skol Hop

While enjoying the final beer in the No Coast Nitro trifecta, the S’Mores Nitro Milk Stout, we dive in to various headlines about the Vikings draft day prospects and various draft day trade proposals. The biggest headline (and question mark) continues to be what the Vikings will do at quarterback. It’s a narrative that just won’t go away until after the draft. There were also a handful of rule changes made as NFL execs met this week. At the time of recording, the hip drop tackle has officially been banned and the kickoff rules were under discussion. We discuss these things and more. As always, grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol!  Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! From the new “Command Central” of The Skol Hop, we run through most of the free agency additions and subtractions for our favorite purple team after the first full week of official free agency in the NFL. While we do so, we enjoy another No Coast Nitro beer. This time we tried the Nitro Cold Brew Coffee Milk Stout, and it was delicious! Two interesting things developed in our conversation: First, a formal invitation is extended to all-time Vikings great Harrison Smith to join us on the podcast. Second, a conspiracy theory develops around Kirk Cousins and his departure from Minnesota. Whether its a valid theory or not remains to be seen, but it certainly makes you think! The writing was on the wall a long time ago, but it became official on the first day of “legal tampering,” whatever that means. Kirk Cousins takes a huge 4-year deal with Atlanta, leaving the Vikings with many question marks at the QB position. We talk about the possibilities in front of the Vikings front office as they make moves in this frantic free agency season. We also look back, fondly, on Kirk Cousins' 6-year tenure in Minnesota. There were quite a few additional moves, both additions and departures, made by the Vikings and we discuss them all! Austin’s wife also picked the beer for this episode, selecting Green Tree Brewing’s Blueberry Graham Smacker. While this isn’t a beer either of us would naturally gravitate towards, we surprisingly enjoyed it! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! SKOL! What is the best way to toast a beer? We struggle to figure this out and attempt the perfect toast many times. Spoiler alert: we get it right at the end! After a quick update on some Vikings talkers from a busy NFL Scouting Combine week, we discuss the all-important running back position after Alexander Mattison’s somewhat surprising release by the Vikings this week. We also talk at length about the NFL’s tampering policy and our opinions on the matter. This, of course, is in the wake of many NFL teams speaking with soon-to-be free agent Kirk Cousins at the Combine. Is that right? Wrong? We offer our opinions. We also discuss the Vikings A grade as voted on by 1700 players from across the league. All this while enjoying a surprisingly good No Coast Cookies and Cream Nitro, something that was different (but very enjoyable) for both of us! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! SKOL! With a Gezellig Brewing Lucky Irish Red Ale in hand, we discuss the beer brewing process we undertook in the previous episode with the help of friend-of-the-show Forrest. Before our interview with Dustin Baker and Wes Johnson, we discuss the Justin Jefferson contract, as well as the Kirk Cousins situation and how that informs everything else for the Vikings 2024 offseason. Be sure to tune in to the interview with Dustin Baker and Wes Johnson, because there’s some really great insight that comes from our conversation! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! On this very special episode of The Skol Hop, we're joined by friend of the show Forrest to brew the first ever Skol Hop beer, and we couldn't be more excited! In the middle of the brewing process in Austin's garage, we take some time to sit down and talk about the Vikings offseason. Not only does Forrest have a knack for brewing beer, but he's pretty knowledgeable about the up and coming Michigan draft prospects that could end up playing in Minnesota professionally. Forrest also provided the beer for the episode: Grange Brewery's Merry Jane. Grab your favorite beverage (hopefully someday it's a Skol Hop Brew!) and join us! Skol! It’s hard not to talk about the Super Bowl, even though the Vikings weren’t in it (again). But after a short recap of the game and admitting that we didn’t know the rule changes either (sorry 49ers fans), we switch gears and open up OverTheCap.com’s Cap Calculator to play around with all of the possibilities the Vikings face this offseason. Some guys get nice new contracts, while others get cut (*cough* Marcus Davenport *cough*). Either way, we’re just a couple of dudes from Iowa who like drinking beer and talking about the Vikings, so what do we know? One thing we know for sure: Beer is good, and we had another good one today. Contrary Brewing’s Pighead American Brown was delightful! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! We tell the story of how we accidentally ran into each other at the grocery store and picked out this week’s beer together. Great Revivalist out of Clinton, Iowa provided us with this week's featured beer: Could Trippin’ Hazy IPA, and it was delicious! After that, we go on to discuss some of the issues with the NFL Pro Bowl, namely the fact that as big NFL fans we didn’t really watch the Pro Bowl. We briefly touch on the upcoming Super Bowl and give our predictions. Spoiler alert: We both think the Chiefs will win. After a little tangent about how close the Vikings have come to the big game, we spend some more time on trivia. Austin continues to demonstrate his prowess in NFL trivia, but Ev makes the commitment to picking the categories next time. To close, we talk about former Vikings that will be playing in the Super Bowl. So, grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! In this down week between the conference championship games and the big game, we had the awesome privilege of talking with Dustin Baker for the second time. We picked his brain on the outcome of the AFC/NFC Championship games, who he thinks will win the Super Bowl, and what his thoughts are on the Vikings priorities this offseason. Before that we tried our hand at a little NFL Trivia. Turns out Ev might need to brush up on this category, but Austin did quite well! We also drop a few hints as to what lies ahead for us here at The Skol Hop! With 25 episodes down, we have some big plans in the future! We enjoyed some Five Cities Good Boy IPAs, too! Austin shares the best and worst case scenarios for the rest of the NFL Playoffs if you’re a Vikings fan, including the Super Bowl. Along the way we celebrate a newly decorated Minnesota Hall of Famer, Joe Mauer, longtime Twins catcher and first baseman, and Ben Jacobsen, head coach of the UNI Panthers men’s basketball team, on becoming the winningest coach in Missouri Valley Conference history. Lastly, we’re not just a Vikings football podcast. We recap several of the beers we’ve enjoyed on the show to this point and formulate a summer roadtrip to check out the awesome breweries our great state of Iowa has to offer! And speaking of beer, we tried West O’s Smoked Red American Red Ale, and it was delicious! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode!
