The Skol Hop

We’ve got some BIG news to share! We’ve been nominated for a handful of awards at the first ever Iowa Podcast Awards in September! We spend a little bit of time explaining which awards we’ve been nominated for and announce that we’ll be recording an episode LIVE at the awards on September 15th (week 2 home opener against the 49ers)! To say we’re pumped is an understatement. We’d love it if you went to iowapodcastawards.com/vote and voted for The Skol Hop for the People’s Choice Award! Oh yeah, we also had some really good beer and talked about the Vikings! We sipped on Whole Latte Love from House Divided Brewery in Ely, Iowa and talked about a trade that’s happened already and a possible acquisition for a depleted secondary. We also hit some highlights from the first preseason game. As always, we had a ton of fun and hope you do too! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! With only a few weeks until the 24-25 NFL season is in full force, we decided to look back one final time on the 23-24 season and discuss our favorite and least favorite Vikings moments. Wasting no time at all, we turn the corner sharply in our conversation with Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory and discuss 3 training camp myths that have been busted with a few weeks of camp and the preseason still ahead. Check out Janik Eckardt’s article on Vikings Territory that was the springboard for our chat here: https://vikingsterritory.com/2024/news/analysis/vikings-offseason-theories We were able to enjoy another Brew Hop beer that we grabbed on our road trip back in Episode 50. This week we had a collaboration beer between Lua, Big Grove, and Toppling Goliath called Project Hop Fisch V. It was delicious! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! With a Big Grove Tailwind Golden Ale to sip on, the boys talk some early Vikings training camp news and then make their picks for all 17 games of the Vikings 2024 campaign. Like last year, we each picked the winners/losers of each Vikings game and had our wives and kids pick the games as well. We also did a coin toss, heads predicting a Vikings win and tails a loss. Ev nearly lost his coin flipping privileges after a little mishap about halfway through! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! As we celebrate 50 episodes of The Skol Hop, join us for a little road trip to see and experience 11 different craft breweries around the state of Iowa! If you’ve followed our show for any length of time, you know that we like drinking beer and talking about the Vikings. More specifically, we only drink Iowa craft beer on our weekly episodes. On this trip we take you inside the different breweries we visited to give you a glimpse at how great Iowa beer can be! We had an absolute blast and we can’t wait to do it again! With impeccable deduction, Evan correctly identifies the brewer and name of this week's featured brew from Five Cities Brewing - Crush Tangerine Wheat. While sipping on this delicious beer, we discuss the newest Netflix series on NFL wide receivers and how disappointing it has been so far. We also talk about the recent news surrounding Jordan Addison and what this means for the young player with a few strikes against him. Lastly, we round out our 5 week mini-series where we look through notable Vikings players to wear each number throughout franchise history. Could it be? Did beer from enemy territory make its way onto the set of The Skol Hop? Indeed it did, but no worries, it was not consumed on the show and our commitment to only drinking Iowa brewed beers on the show remains intact.  Austin guesses the brewery and gets close on the type and ABV as we sip on the NoCoast Beer’s Flying Johnny American Pale Ale. We sip on a few of these while continuing Week 4 of our series of best Vikings to wear numbers 60-79. We also had the distinct privilege of hanging out with Dustin Baker over at Vikings Territory and got his takes on some Vikings offseason talkers, possible Vikings Olympians, and some players that stick out to him that wore numbers 60-79. Austin brings Firetrucker Brewing’s Tropical Burn for Evan to guess in the Mystery Beer game. It was definitely a tricky one to guess, but a delicious one to drink! Before jumping into the 3rd week of our series of best Vikings to wear each jersey number, we cover a few offseason talkers. We talk about the competition at guard on the offensive line, possibly bringing back Cam Akers, and getting the cap hits of Kirk Cousins and Danielle Hunter off the books very soon. Then we highlight some of the best Vikings to wear jersey numbers 40-59. If we missed any, be sure to let us know in the comments! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Austin recaps his trip with Big Top Ventures to Mexico and fails to guess any of the categories of this week's Mystery Beer, which is SingleSpeed’s Cerveza De La Casa Mexican Lager. Evan recently went to Skol-land and picked up a little gift. Then, as part 2 of a 5 part series, we break down the most notable Vikings to wear each jersey number from 20-39. As we note in our conversation, if you’re an up and coming Viking looking for a number to make “yours,” pick something in the 30’s. There are a lot of good options that need some good players to don those numbers! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! We're starting a little mini-series here to get us through the dog days of summer! We decided a while back to take a look at all of the best Vikings to wear each jersey number from 0-99. In this episode we cover the first 20 numbers, from 0-19. There are a lot of great Vikings who've worn those numbers and we do our best to cover them all! We also enjoy a few Bulldog Blondes from Five Cities Brewery! Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol!

With a sub-par wrap job, Austin presents another mystery beer that Evan has to guess. Turns out to be Peace Tree’s (from Knoxville, Iowa, not Coralville) Prickly Pear Sour and it was pretty good! We talk about various Vikings mini camp highlights, such as the quarterback situation and the loaded tight end and cornerback rooms that will ultimately be slimmed down before the season begins. Lastly, we cover some key dates upcoming for the Vikings as training camp is coming up and the preseason is closer than we think. Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol!
