The Skol Hop

‘Tis the season to try festive holiday beers! We tried Backpocket’s Winter Lager, a cranberry lager that hits the spot as the weather starts to cool off and the Vikings season starts to heat up. We had friend of the show Forrest (the Bears fan) on to talk about the Vikings OT win at Soldier Field. Ranging from Caleb Williams’ ascension as an NFL quarterback to the horrendous officiating, we hit some Roses & Thorns and hand out some game balls. As always, we look ahead to next week as the Vikings host the Cardinals in the first of a 3-game homestand and we get into the weeds of the various end-of-season scenarios.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Well, we were wrong. In our preseason picks, Evan and Austin both tabbed the Vikings to lose to the Titans in Week 11 which means we both spun the Wheel of Purple Punishments. The Saltine Challenge was the punishment doled out this time. Did we succeed? Let us know in the comments! After that, we relished a great beer from Adventurous Brewing out of Bettendorf, Iowa called Pod Unsubscribed and it was awesome. Of course we got into everything that happened as the Vikings beat the Titans and we preview the final game of a 3-game road stint at Chicago.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Join us as we take a look back at the Vikings gritty 12-7 win over Jacksonville and look ahead to their 2nd of 3 straight games on the road at Tennessee. Evan had to suffer the consequence of the Wheel of Purple Punishments and we tried a really, really good pumpkin beer from Millstream Brewing - Pumpkin With Benefits. We made some movie references along the way and, as always, we had a ton of fun drinking Iowa beer and talking about the Minnesota Vikings.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Austin fell victim to the Wheel of Purple Punishments yet again, and his punishment was pretty spicy! He was able to wash it down with some great beer from LionBridge Brewing out of Cedar Rapids. We try their Fun Size Chocolate & Vanilla Porter - delicious! We spend way too much time rehashing the Vikings SNF victory over the Colts. We talk NFL officiating, Justin Jefferson, Cam Akers, Cam Robinson, and so much more. After handing out our honorary game balls from that game, we switch gears and look ahead to the Vikings week 10 matchup with the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Austin picked the Vikings to win in our preseason picks and Evan picked them to lose against the Jags, so someone will be spinning the wheel again on next week’s episode!   Grab your favorite beverage and join us! We feature another great beer from Big Grove Brewing (Wade Wisely) while we hash out all of the good and bad from the Vikings loss to the Rams on Thursday Night Football in Week 8. We went live on our YouTube channel during that game and we decided to preemptively spin the Wheel of Purple Punishments while we were live. At the time of the spin, the game was tied and we were split in our preseason picks on the outcome: Austin predicted a Vikings win and Evan a Vikings loss. The wheel determined the punishment would be the Cinnamon Challenge, which Austin conquers valiantly. We talk Roses & Thorns from the loss to the Rams. Evan brings up several teams that he’s glad we’re not fans of and then we look ahead to the Sunday Night game against the Colts in Week 9.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! The Vikings lost a close one to the Lions which means we had to spin the Wheel of Purple Punishments. What a silly idea, the Wheel of Purple Punishments. Our featured beer tonight is from SingleSpeed in Waterloo. Austin brought their Hold My Pretzel Festbier, and we really enjoyed it! We look back at the frustrating things from the Lions game, but there were some positive takeaways too. We talk Roses and Thorns from the Lions game, Austin talks about his experience at US Bank Stadium for that game, and we hand out Game Balls. Perhaps the biggest bright spot for the Vikings is the fact that they’re on a short week and can get back to their winning ways against the Rams on Thursday Night Football. We look ahead to that game with some optimism.  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol! Shoutout to Big Top Ventures for sponsoring today's episode! We enjoyed more beer from Titonka Brewing and got to work discussing everything that’s happened so far for the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings at their bye week. We dig into the crazy stat that’s been circulating about how the 4 teams in the NFC North lead the league in point differential and are also all above .500. We wonder out loud if the Vikings are the best team in that division and who their biggest challenge may be down the stretch. Next we take a peek at an article from VikingsTerritory by friend of the show Dustin Baker on the 6 Winners and Losers on the Vikings roster. Interestingly enough, the winners are all offseason acquisitions and the losers have been on the team for a while. Lastly, we look ahead to the gigantic matchup between the 5-0 Vikings and the 4-1 Lions at US Bank Stadium in Week 7. The beer was fantastic, the conversation was awesome. The Vikings are 5-0 and we escape the wrath of the wheel of Purple Punishments! It’s easy to talk about your favorite football team when they’re undefeated and we wasted no time getting down to business to talk about the Vikings win over the New York Jets in London this past week. We discuss our roses and thorns from the game and give out game balls. Somehow, Kirk Cousins re-enters the chat and we debate the effectiveness of the Vikings’ old quarterback versus their new QB, Sam Darnold. Another thread of that conversation is the quandary the Vikings face at the running back position with a potential Aaron Jones injury. All of this and more as we cracked open some Keg Creek Brewing Brick Red Ale - a solid choice for any beer lover out there!  Grab your favorite beverage and join us! Skol!
