  • Cheap Trick Christmas Album Interview 2017
Cheap Trick – riding high with latest album We’re All Alright! – have announced the launch of a Christmas-themed LP on Oct. 20 via Big Machine Records. Christmas Christmas includes 12 tracks, three of which were written by the band, while the others are all seasonal classics from down the years.
News of the project arrived in July, when bassist Tom Petersson said the band had completed work “about two months ago” and that it would arrive “around Halloween.” It’s their third record in two years after We’re All Alright! followed 2016’s Bang, Zoom, Crazy… Hello.
Big Machine said in a statement: “Arriving mere months after We’re All Alright!, Cheap Trick co-produced the holiday collection alongside their longtime collaborator, Grammy award winner Julian Raymond. With Christmas Christmas, Cheap Trick deliver a sleigh full of rock’n’roll classics and festive favorites by Wizzard, Slade, Chuck Berry, The Ramones and The Kinks, as well as newly-penned offerings like joyous lead track ‘Merry Christmas Darlings.’” The album is available for pre-order now via a PledgeMusic campaign, which offers a range of bundles from the music itself to Christmas tree ornament, stocking, sweater and scarf.
Asked about the band’s creative drive, Petersson said: “It just seems very natural for us – I can’t really explain it. People will ask for advice and I just don’t have any. We love recording and writing together, and we always search for that perfect record you can never achieve, so I guess that might be one of those things that keeps us going. There’s always room for improvement and change.” The band released a single entitled “I Want You For Christmas” in 1987 – however, it doesn’t appear on the upcoming album.

  • KC Camo Day Interview
    RECOGNIZING SACRIFICE, SOLITUDE, AND ISOLATION

KC Camo Day™ is an annual event, held the day before the national observance of Veteran’s Day, and exists to raise awareness of the often hidden personal struggles many Veterans deal with in the days, months and years following their service to our country.
The camouflage analogy represents the fact that most people still don’t “see” the struggles our Veterans face as they attempt to transition into what most people think are normal civilian lives. We can all help by making sure Veterans feel welcome and appreciated as they blend back into civilian life.

  • Photographer, Neal Preston Interview
"Shooting live music performances is something few photographers do really well. I just happened to discover one day that I was pretty good at it."
Neal Preston is one of the greatest rock photographers of all time. Exhilarated and Exhausted is a no-holds-barred complete retrospective of his more than 40-year career. Produced in collaboration with Neal, it is introduced by a foreword by Neal's close friend, the renowned writer and director Cameron Crowe, and an introduction by photo editor Dave Brolan.
Neal's photographs vibrate with a palpable and inimitable intensity. As Crowe observes, "You can feel the music, the audience, the desperate need to find a place in the world, all of it, in these photos because they were curated by the guy who felt it all when he pressed the button on the camera. They're snapshots of what's most elusive - truth and fun and for that one moment, on that one night, the thrill of belonging." This exceptional volume is a who's who of rock royalty. Neal was the official tour photographer for Led Zeppelin, Queen, Bruce Springsteen and The Who, and has also extensively shot The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson and many more. The book includes his portraits, backstage moments, live performances, post-performance highs and lows, and outtakes.
This is the first time Neal has allowed unrestricted access to his legendary archive - considered one of the music industry's most significant and extensive photo collections. The images are further brought alive by Neal's accompanying text - a mind-bending insight into life on the road as a rock and roll photographer.

  • Hogshead Fundrasier Interview
Local restaurateurs plan to open Hogshead Kansas City at Country Club Plaza in November.
Shawn McClenny, owner of One Block South entertainment district in Overland Park, and Clark Grant, former executive chef at the Capital Grille in Chicago and on the Plaza, have leased a 5,500-square-foot space at 4743 Pennsylvania Ave. It is being remodeled and will have “rustic contemporary” decor and a casual atmosphere.
Hogshead Kansas City will have a “creative American,” chef-driven menu using locally sourced products, craft beers and in-house barrel-aged cocktails. The restaurant will staff about 50 employees.
Hogshead is an old world term for a large cask used for the shipment of wine and spirits, McClenny said.
The partners met when they helped with a benefit for a server who had worked for them both. They also connected over their love of Chicago’s culinary offerings.
The spot where Hogshead will open has a culinary history spanning 45 years.
Joe Gilbert and Paul Robinson opened their first Houlihan’s Old Place in the spot in 1972, naming it after clothier Thomas Houlihan, the location’s former tenant. Houlihan’s operated in the space for 30 years, and McClenny’s wife had once been a server there.
But then landlord Highwoods decided not to renew its lease. California Pizza Kitchen opened in the space in mid-2003 and closed in mid-2014.
Corner Bakery Cafe had been in negotiations for the space before the Plaza changed ownership in 2016.
“Hogshead Kansas City will be a terrific addition to the Plaza.,” said Meredith Keeler, general manager of the Plaza. “We are proud to add another local business to our lineup and are confident the restaurant, with its locally sourced ingredients and extensive menu, will generate a large and loyal following.”
The local owners of Leawood’s Rye Restaurant also recently announced plans to open a Plaza Rye at 4646 J.C. Nichols Parkway on the Plaza.
