Sarah Mead's mother was a founding force of iconic Somerset organic dairy brand, Yeo Valley Organic Ltd. Mum is still involved in the business of course, but Sarah is very much the 'front of house' face of the company involved in all the customer and visitor orientated activities and promotions. With a passionate committment to organic farming and a deep-rooted love of her home county, Somerset, Sarah and I talk about the importance of investing in organic practices and purchasing organic where you can, and how the family farming business has evolved to become the successful brand it is today with products in all our supermarkets, local shops and delis, as well as a growing presence as a tourist attraction too.

My guest Rachel Mead has already walked 4 miles and travelled by bus to get to meet me at 10am in Taunton, Somerset! That's dedication! Rachel is a walker and a writer...she writes about her walks for magazines and websites and is currently preparing her first book. Her first love is exploring Somerset, usually by foot of course, but she is also known to jump on her bike or pull on her running shoes to get out and about in the amazingly varied landscape her home county offers.

As we all know, our young people are the future. Somerset charity, PROMISEworks trains adults to be mentors to children and teenagers who need that bit of extra support to thrive and build their confidence in the world.

My guest Christell Charles is the coordinator for West Somerset and Taunton and, as a mentor herself, sees first hand how valuable having an 'adult friend' can be when a young person has not had the best start in life or has emerged from the COVID-19 lockdowns scared, worried and anxious about going out or meeting new people.

Join Christell and I as we talk about what being an adult mentor to a young person involves, the changes mentors can make to young lives and, of course, we eat cake! In Christell's case, quite a lot of it! This is a uplifing episode that makes you realise how important it is to have local charities working hard to make a difference to lives in the county.

The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil, Somerset is about to undergo a massive £28 million transformation and just weeks before they close the doors for up to two years, I was lucky enough to have Theatre Manager, Adam Burgan as my guest on the show. His passion for theatre is clear; as a teenager he found his tribe in his local drama group and fell in love with the performing arts, going on to study theatre management at university and working his way up the ranks to his role today at the Octagon. The excitement surrounding the redevelopment of this regional theater is obvious too as Adam reflects on the journey to date and explains how he believes the new theatre and arts centre will contribute to the cultural life of Yeovil and the rest of the county.
