March 13, 2023Talking to Tim Walker, My Carbon CoachTim Walker has built quite a reputation already in his home town of Taunton as an eco-activist and sustainable living practioner and adviser. His Taunton Litter Pick initative won him a BBC Make A Difference Award and his regular column in the county's newpaper means he can get his voice heard across the community. However, mainly you will find him either in his eco-shop 'My Carbon Coach' or on his allotment beginnign his journey into vegetable cultivation! With a pragmatic but enthusiastic and encouraging approch to helping his fellow Tauntonians move toward a more sustainable way of living, as I chat to Tim I realise that it is possible to bring about change and the first step is to look at yourself and ask not 'what can I do?', but 'what shall I do first?'.My cake was from Shoreditch White Coffee Facebook @shoreditchwhite Instagram @shoreditchwhite Website www.shoreditchwhite.comFind out more about Tim Walker here:Facebook @mycarboncoachInstagram @mycarboncoachWebsite www.mycarboncoach.co.ukIf you enjoyed the show and you're feeling generous, you can buy me a coffee! March 06, 2023Talking to Slummy Single Mummy aka Jo MiddletonSingle mum of two little girls, Somerset resident Jo Middleton jumped into blogging in 2009 before it was fashionable, and without any experience or know how. Her blog 'Slummy Single Mummy' was born and rode the crest of the wave of a new form of communication that involved sharing advice, gossip and insight that we now call 'being an influencer'. I talk to Jo about her journey, how she views her role as a writer (and new entrant to the podcasting world) and why she loves her home county of Somerset so much.Jo is both funny and thoughtful and was a pleasure to chat with... although she outdid me on the cake front which was...a tad annoying!! hahaha!--------------------------------Find out more about Jo Middleton aka Slummy Single MummyFacebook @slummysinglemummyInstagram @slummysinglemummyWebsite www.slummysinglemummy.comMy cake was from A Slice of Happiness in North PethertonFacebook @asliceofhappinesswww.asliceofhappiness.co.ukIf you enjoyed the show and you're feeling generous, you can buy me a coffee! February 27, 2023Talking with Pip Harris, Producer at Somerset FilmI so enjoyed talking to Pip Harris, a young producer at Somerset Film. She spoke with such eloquence and passion about how and why she believes film and digital media are important within our communities, giving people who are sometimes unheard a voice and enable wide sharing of unique stories, forgotten histories and important factual information in easily accessible ways. Oh yes, and we eat cake... at least I do, Pip was too shy to munch her's on air so scoffed it down earlier in the day... :)Find out more about Somerset Film Find out more about The Engine RoomFind out more about the British Film Academy (BFI) Academy and ClubFacebook @somersetfilmInstagram @somerset.filmIf you enjoyed the show and you're feeling generous, you can buy me a coffee! February 20, 2023Talking with Cheryl Ford, CEO at The Quantock BreweryAfter losing her mother, Cheryl sat with her partner and her father to contemplate the future. Lucky for us all that, on the toss of a coin, they decided to work out their grief by setting up a microbrewery in the heart of Somerset. The Quantock Brewery was born and has flourished; nestled at the base of the hills after which it is named, Cheryl, Rob and Ken now employ a brewery team that has produced several award-winning ales including Will's Neck, Titanium and Sunraker. Cheryl talks candidly about how her passion for brewing evolved and the challenges and opportunities brought about by the COVID pandemic...and reveals some of her own personal passions too.Find out more about Quantock Brewery www.quantockbrewery.co.ukFind out more about the Somerset Bakehouse www.somersetbakehouse.co.uk----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you enjoyed the show and you're feeling generous, you can buy me a coffee! February 13, 2023Talking to Paul Newman, Coordinator of Somerset Art WeeksSomerset Art Weeks is a key event in the cultural calendar of the county and I am delighted to this week be speaking to Paul Newman of SAW (Somerset Art Works) who co-ordinates the entire event. After a few tricky years due to... guess what... COVID, the 2-week long event made a successful returned to the towns and villages of the county in September 2022 and work has already begun on the 2023 edition. Paul and I chat about the value that artistic endeavour brings to artists and their audiences and he asks the Somerset community to get behind the hugely diverse range of creative individuals and groups that are flourishing county-wide. Oh yes, and we compare tasty treats too!Find out more about Somerset Art WeeksFind out more about Somerest Art WorksIf you enjoyed the show and you're feeling generous, you can buy me a coffee! February 06, 2023Talking to Fiona and Kim from Somerset Ladies in BusinessA general dissatisfaction with the networking opportunities available locally led friends Fiona and Kim to set up their own group specifically for women launching or running their own small business as well as women working for local companies. With an emphasis on communication and a 'no mean girls from the playground' policy, Somerset Ladies in Business is a thriving networking organisation, back on it's feet after the COVID pandemic and excited about the future.
