  • XX-XY: The Fight for Fairness in Women’s Sports — Kendall Kotzmacher
XX-XY: The Fight for Fairness in Women’s Sports

XX-XY: The Fight for Fairness in Women’s Sports takes center stage in Season 5, Episode 30 of The SLIDE Podcast. Coach Aaron and special co-host Rachel Garcia welcome NCAA softball player Kendall Kotzmacher for a powerful conversation about biological sex, gender identity, Title IX, and athletic competition.

What happens when a girls’ softball team faces an athlete identified by an opposing player as biologically male? How should schools balance fairness, inclusion, and athletic opportunities?

For Kendall, these questions became personal during her senior year of high school in Minnesota. Her experience eventually led her to speak before lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

XX-XY and the Minnesota State Softball Tournament

Kendall recalls her team’s remarkable journey through the Minnesota state softball tournament. Entering as the sixth seed, her team exceeded expectations and advanced to the semifinals.

However, Kendall says the semifinal presented a challenge that went beyond winning or losing.

Her team faced an opponent that included an athlete Kendall identified as biologically male. She explains why she believed that athlete’s participation raised concerns about competitive fairness in girls’ softball.

Additionally, Kendall discusses the emotional impact of playing one of her final high school games alongside her younger sister.

Although her teammates held different perspectives, Kendall believed the experience exposed a much larger issue affecting women’s athletics.

Biological Gender, XX-XY, and Title IX

Should biological sex determine eligibility for female athletic categories? What role should genetic testing play in verifying eligibility?

These questions drive one of the episode’s most significant discussions.

Kendall argues that sex-based eligibility standards are necessary to maintain fair competition. She also explains why she believes biological differences must be considered when establishing athletic categories.

Moreover, Kendall discusses her involvement with advocacy organizations and her experience speaking at a congressional hearing.

The conversation explores Title IX, proposed eligibility legislation, and Kendall’s views on using XX-XY chromosome classifications in athletic policies. However, human sex development also includes chromosomal variations, making eligibility standards more complex than a simple two-category genetic test.

The Personal Cost of Speaking Out

As Kendall became increasingly involved in advocacy, she says her college experience became more difficult.

She describes feeling isolated during her freshman year at Western Michigan University. Furthermore, she shares that she received threats and reported some to law enforcement.

Kendall discusses how these experiences affected her confidence, personal safety, and relationship with softball.

Rachel also provides her perspective as a professional softball player. Together, they discuss the value of opportunities for female athletes and the importance of supportive athletic environments.

Finding Faith and Support at Colorado Christian

After leaving Western Michigan, Kendall transferred to Colorado Christian University.

She describes a supportive environment where teammates and coaches regularly check on her well-being. Consequently, Kendall credits her new community with helping restore her confidence and passion for softball.

Her faith also plays an important role in her approach to competition.

“We’re playing to win games, but at the end of the day we’re playing for God.”

In addition, Kendall discusses her studies in criminal justice and political science. She shares her interest in law school and a possible career involving human trafficking prevention.

Beyond the XX-XY Debate: The Future of Women’s Sports

Beyond Kendall’s personal experiences, this episode raises important questions about how athletic organizations should determine eligibility.

What does fairness mean in competitive sports? How should schools protect athletic opportunities while respecting individual athletes? What role should lawmakers play in setting participation standards?

Coach Aaron, Rachel, and Kendall discuss these questions through their experiences in softball.

The episode also features a Field of Dreams recap, professional softball updates, and the hilarious debut of The SLIDE Slang Challenge!

Ultimately, XX-XY: The Fight for Fairness in Women’s Sports brings listeners into a personal discussion about competitive fairness, policy, advocacy, and the future of female athletics.

  • Beyond the Ballfield: Inside Texas’ Ultimate Youth Sports Ranch
Beyond the Ballfield: Inside Texas’ Ultimate Youth Sports Ranch

Beyond the Ballfield: Inside Texas’ Ultimate Youth Sports Ranch takes center stage in Season 5, Episode 29 of The SLIDE Podcast! Coach Aaron welcomes Jessica Pisani, Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Parsons Sports Ranch, for an inside look at a remarkable youth sports destination.

Joining the conversation are youth co-hosts TrippDog22 and MicCheckMariah. Together, they explore how one father’s vision became a state-of-the-art baseball and softball complex. Moreover, they discover why this Texas facility is quickly becoming a destination for tournament families.

Building a Youth Baseball Paradise in Texas

Parsons Sports Ranch began with a simple goal. Owner Stuart Parsons wanted his children to have a reliable place to practice baseball and softball without worrying about rainouts.

However, that original backyard practice field soon grew into something much bigger.

Today, the facility features four fully turfed fields, impressive scoreboards, and a newly constructed broadcasting tower. In addition, four more fields are under development, with completion targeted for spring 2027.

Jessica explains how the project evolved from a family practice space into a thriving tournament destination. As she shares, the ranch continues to expand because its owner never stops building.

The Ultimate Youth Sports Tournament Experience

Beyond the Ballfield: Inside Texas’ Ultimate Youth Sports Ranch highlights something many tournament facilities overlook: the family experience.

For example, Parsons Sports Ranch offers a 10,000-square-foot, climate-controlled VIP area overlooking the action. Families can enjoy comfortable seating, large televisions, and unlimited buffet dining with an upgraded admission.

Meanwhile, players can enjoy freshly prepared pizzas, quesadillas, burgers, and other favorites.

TrippDog22 shares his firsthand experience competing at the ranch during a Diamond Kings World Series tournament. His team dominated the skills competitions, including the home run derby and around-the-horn challenge.

Although rain interrupted the championship, Tripp remembers the tournament experience fondly. His favorite part? The food!

Growing Girls’ Baseball and Softball Opportunities

The conversation also explores the future of girls’ baseball and softball.

Jessica discusses the ranch’s college softball showcases, which have attracted programs such as Texas, Baylor, and other universities.

Furthermore, Mariah introduces Jessica to Baseball For All, an organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for girls in baseball.

The group discusses the possibility of bringing future girls’ baseball events to Parsons Sports Ranch. As a result, the conversation opens the door to exciting opportunities for female athletes.

What’s Next for Parsons Sports Ranch?

The ranch has even bigger ambitions beyond baseball and softball.

Plans under consideration include on-site lodging, additional tournament space, and expanded multisport programming. Meanwhile, its indoor training facility is being developed to accommodate batting cages, basketball, volleyball, and other activities.

Jessica also shares her interest in bringing lacrosse, flag football, and soccer into the mix.

Ultimately, the mission is about more than winning games. It’s about giving young athletes unforgettable experiences while bringing families together through sports.

Discover more about the facility, its tournaments, and upcoming opportunities at Parsons Sports Ranch.

  • Going Yard with Frank Giglio | Baseball, Big Dreams & Field of Dreams

With What does it take to turn a lifelong passion for baseball into a business that creates unforgettable experiences for players, fans, and families?

On this episode of The S.L.I.D.E. Podcast, Coach Aaron Pridmore welcomes Frank Giglio, Founder and CEO of Going Yard Baseball, for an inspiring conversation about youth baseball, hard work, entrepreneurship, and making history at the iconic Field of Dreams Movie Site in Dyersville, Iowa.

Joining the conversation are S.L.I.D.E. Field Reporters Party Boy Jase and Mic Check Mariah, bringing their own experiences as young athletes and asking questions every aspiring baseball and softball player can learn from.

From Division I Baseball to Building Going Yard

Frank’s baseball journey began long before Going Yard Baseball.

A former Division I baseball player at St. John’s University, Frank went on to become a professional sports agent representing athletes in baseball and golf before building a successful career as an attorney.

But his passion for baseball never faded.

Alongside longtime friend and co-founder Bill Grazer, Frank created Going Yard Baseball with one mission: to deliver unique baseball experiences, unforgettable moments, and opportunities that bring athletes and fans closer to the game they love.

Making History at the Field of Dreams

One of the biggest highlights of the conversation is the historic Glow Event at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, where Going Yard Baseball joined forces with GlowBall Nation, Stinger Sports, and other event partners to create an unforgettable baseball experience.

Frank takes listeners behind the scenes of the event, including:

    • The Glowing Yard Home Run Derby under UV-reactive lighting.
    • Baseball personalities and content creators competing on the field.
    • Big League Whiffle bringing an exciting new element to the competition.
    • The challenges and rewards of producing a major baseball event.
    • The possibility of returning for an even bigger Field of Dreams 2.0 experience.
    • The event brought together talented athletes, creators, and baseball fans in one of the sport’s most recognizable locations.

Baseball Advice Every Young Athlete Needs to Hear

Beyond creating incredible baseball events, Frank shares lessons from his playing career that every young athlete should hear.

From earning a Division I roster spot through determination and hard work to learning how to handle failure at the plate, Frank emphasizes that success doesn’t always belong to the most naturally talented player.

Work ethic, consistency, adaptability, and self-belief can make all the difference.

When Party Boy Jase asks for advice about finding the right batting stance, Frank explains why young hitters must be willing to experiment, make adjustments, listen to coaches, and ultimately discover what works best for their own swing.

The conversation also explores why failure is such an important part of baseball and why even professional athletes never stop learning.

What’s Next for Going Yard Baseball?

Frank shares his vision for the future of Going Yard Baseball, including more unique baseball experiences, celebrity home run derbies, and events at iconic stadiums across the country.

The crew also discusses ideas for future Field of Dreams events, including nighttime glow wiffle ball games and additional opportunities for fans to get involved.

And of course, no episode of The S.L.I.D.E. Podcast would be complete without the ultimate question:

Bottom of the ninth, two outs, bases loaded. What’s your walk-up song?

      Frank’s answer might surprise you!

      • Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again
Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again

Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again takes listeners inside Diamond Oaks Ranch in Texas, where baseball is only part of the experience. Coach Aaron and Big E welcome Chris Shelton back to the show after Diamond Oaks completed its first season of tournaments and opened the ranch to families looking for something different from the traditional weekend baseball grind.

A Baseball Resort Built Around the Whole Family

Chris explains how Diamond Oaks Ranch has grown into a 182-acre baseball destination with four turf fields, on-site cottages, a team bunkhouse, a restaurant, HitTrax, indoor batting cages, a pool, pickleball, volleyball, disc golf, fishing, bikes, live music, a Wiffle ball field and more. In Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again, the biggest theme is simple: kids should have room to compete, but they should also have room to be kids.

That idea comes to life when Chris shares one of his favorite moments from the first season. A young player rolled into the dugout on a bike just minutes before game time because he had been fishing. Instead of treating that as a problem, Chris saw it as proof that the ranch was doing exactly what it was built to do. The player had fun, showed up ready to play, and got to experience baseball without every moment feeling like pressure.

Big E Brings the Player Perspective

Big E jumps into the conversation with questions about age groups, free-agent teams, food, lodging, fishing and what makes the ranch fun for young players. He also explains why playing with new teammates can help kids build confidence and learn how to communicate. Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again becomes more than a facility tour because the conversation keeps coming back to life skills, independence and creating better experiences for young athletes.

Chris also explains the Ranchers free-agent concept, which allows players to register individually and join a pickup team for the weekend. He says he has watched shy players arrive unsure of themselves and leave with new friends, stronger communication skills and great memories. That message fits perfectly with The SLIDE Podcast mission of helping young athletes grow on and off the field.

What Comes Next at Diamond Oaks Ranch

The ranch is already looking ahead. Chris discusses plans for lacrosse events, additional baseball fields, and more lodging. He also talks with Coach Aaron about bringing a GlowBall Nation event to Diamond Oaks in the future. The vision is clear: keep building a place where families can stay together, kids can play hard, and everyone can enjoy the weekend beyond the final score.

Chris closes with his walk-up song, “Back in Black” by AC/DC, while Big E gets an open invitation to visit the ranch. Where Baseball Feels Like Being a Kid Again is a reminder that youth baseball can still be competitive, memorable and fun at the same time.

      • Patrick Renna on Growing Up, Baseball & The Sandlot Legacy

Patrick Renna The Sandlot fans know as Ham Porter, but there’s much more to his story. Patrick Renna joins The Slide Podcast to talk about The Sandlot, his new series Dugout Dads, youth baseball, fatherhood, acting and what it’s like carrying the legacy of one of the most beloved baseball movies of all time.

Thirty years after The Sandlot became a baseball classic, Patrick Renna joins The Slide Podcast to talk about growing up, becoming a dad, coaching youth baseball and bringing some familiar faces back together for his new project, Dugout Dads.

Patrick takes Coach Aaron, Mike Check Mariah and Coach Nate Weber behind the scenes of creating Dugout Dads and explains why he wanted to make something new instead of simply creating a sequel to The Sandlot.

The conversation gets real about youth sports, baseball parents, pressure, competition and why kids should play because they love the game—not because adults are trying to turn them into the next superstar.

Patrick also shares advice for young athletes and aspiring actors about rejection, preparation, work ethic and learning from failure. He talks about the influence of Kobe Bryant, his experience working with Paulie Shore on Son in Law, James Earl Jones, the lasting impact of The Sandlot and what it’s like seeing multiple generations grow up with a movie he helped create.

And, of course, The Slide had to ask the important questions—including Patrick’s favorite cereal and what walk-up song he’d choose with the bases loaded.

It’s a nostalgic, funny and surprisingly heartfelt conversation about baseball, movies, parenting and why sometimes the best thing you can do is just play.

      • Jay Jackson: More Than Baseball — Building Life, Mindset & Legacy

        .

Jay Jackson: More Than Baseball — Building Life, Mindset & Legacy

Smile Zone is about more than baseball. In Season 5, Episode 24 of the Slide Podcast, Coach Aaron and Mic Check Mariah sit down with former MLB pitcher Jay Jackson.

Jay spent 17 years playing professional baseball. His journey took him from the minor leagues to Major League Baseball. He also played internationally in Japan, Mexico and Venezuela.

Today, Jay is focused on the next generation. His mission is to help young athletes build confidence, character and mental toughness. That mission became the Smile Zone.

More Than Baseball: Building Life, Mindset & Legacy

Jay believes sports should help build more than statistics. They should help build people.

The Smile Zone focuses on life, mindset and legacy. It gives young athletes tools they can use on the field and in everyday life.

Jay created the word SMILE as an acronym:

        Start Making Intentional Life Efforts.

That simple message is at the center of his work. Jay wants athletes to enjoy their journey. He also wants them to understand that failure is part of growth.

        Jay Jackson’s MLB Journey

Jay was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2008. He spent eight years working through the minor leagues.

In 2015, he made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres.

His professional career took him across the baseball world. He played for organizations such as the Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins.

He also spent three seasons playing baseball in Japan with the Hiroshima Carp.

His team won three straight Central League championships. Jay says his time in Japan taught him valuable lessons about baseball, respect, teamwork and community.

Mental Toughness On & Off the Field

Jay’s career was not always easy.

He dealt with injuries and setbacks. He also faced the pressure that comes with professional baseball.

        Those experiences shaped his mindset.

Jay explains how he learned to treat difficult moments as speed bumps. A speed bump can slow you down. It does not have to stop your journey.

That idea is a major part of the Smile Zone philosophy.

Young athletes face their own challenges. They deal with pressure from parents, coaches, teammates and social media. They also compare themselves to other players.

Jay believes athletes need more than physical training. They need support and confidence. They need people who can help them handle failure.

Most importantly, they need to remember why they love the game.

From the Big Leagues to the Next Generation

Jay has faced some of baseball’s biggest stars.

During his career, he faced Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. He even shares the story behind a memorable Aaron Judge home run.

Judge recognized that Jay was tipping his pitches. He used that information during the at-bat and hit a home run.

Jay also talks about some of the toughest hitters he faced. These stories give listeners a unique look inside professional baseball.

But the biggest lesson is not about facing great hitters.

It is about learning from every experience.

        Mentoring the Next Generation

After retiring from professional baseball in 2025, Jay began building the next chapter of his career.

He created the Smile Zone to help young athletes become better people and better players.

The program combines mindset development, mentorship and athletic development.

Jay wants athletes to understand who they are. He wants them to learn how to handle adversity. He also wants them to develop the confidence to pursue their goals.

The Smile Zone is designed to support athletes, parents and coaches.

Jay’s vision goes far beyond one team or one city. He hopes to build Smile Zone communities and academies around the world.

        Building Character That Lasts

One of the biggest themes in this episode is character.

Jay believes character matters just as much as talent. It can also make a difference when athletes are trying to reach the next level.

Talent may get someone’s attention. Character can help determine what happens next.

That is why Jay wants young athletes to develop both sides of their game.

The goal is not simply to create better baseball players.

The goal is to create better people.

A Positive Mindset Changes the Journey

Jay and Coach Aaron talk about how often athletes fail in baseball.

Failure is part of the game. Even professional players fail.

The difference is learning how to respond.

A positive mindset does not mean pretending everything is easy. It means finding a way forward when things get difficult.

That is the heart of the Smile Zone.

Jay wants young athletes to smile through the journey. He wants them to enjoy the game. He wants them to learn from setbacks instead of allowing setbacks to define them.

From the big leagues to the next generation, Jay Jackson is using his experiences to make a difference.

        His message is simple:

Be better on the field by becoming better off the field.

This episode of the Slide Podcast is a conversation about baseball, life, mindset, resilience, mentorship and legacy.

It is about more than baseball.

And, of course, Coach Aaron and Mic Check Mariah could not let Jay leave without asking the toughest question of the night:

Bottom of the ninth. Two outs. Bases loaded. What’s your walk-up song?

Listen to Season 5, Episode 24 to hear Jay’s answer.

      • From MLB Draft To Baseball YouTuber: Aiden McIntyre’s Journey Beyond the Game

From MLB Draft To Baseball YouTuber: Aiden McIntyre’s Journey Beyond the Game

Baseball is at the center of this episode of The Slide Podcast. Aiden joins Coach Aaron, Mikey Barrels, and Brian to share his journey through the game.

Aiden played baseball from a young age. He later played college baseball and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 22nd round of the MLB Draft.

However, his path to professional baseball was not typical. Aiden played several positions before becoming a pitcher in college. Over time, he developed his velocity and eventually reached 97 MPH.

        Life in Minor League Baseball

Aiden gives The Slide Podcast an honest look at professional baseball. He explains what life was really like in the minor leagues.

He talks about long seasons, constant travel, housing, food, and the financial challenges players can face. In addition, he explains how players move through the different levels of professional baseball.

Aiden also shares what it felt like to join the Oakland A’s after being drafted. Most importantly, he explains how much work is still required after hearing your name called in the MLB Draft.

        Developing Young Baseball Players

The conversation then turns to youth baseball development. Aiden shares advice for young players who dream of playing college or professional baseball.

He talks about hard work versus talent. He also discusses velocity and why young players should not rush their development.

For example, Aiden explains that being great at 12 or 13 does not guarantee a college scholarship. Instead, young players should focus on getting better each day.

At the same time, players need to give their bodies time to grow. Aiden believes that development takes time. Because of this, young athletes should not feel pressured to reach a certain velocity at an early age.

        Keeping Baseball Fun

Another major topic is the pressure young athletes face today.

Aiden explains why taking breaks can be healthy. He also talks about playing other sports and avoiding early specialization.

Most importantly, he believes young players should continue to enjoy the game. Baseball can be difficult, so loving the game can help players handle failure and keep going.

From Professional Player to Baseball YouTuber

Aiden’s baseball journey eventually took him in a new direction. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he started creating YouTube content.

Since then, he has built a career as a baseball YouTuber and content creator. His goal is to stay connected to baseball while helping grow the love of the game for the next generation.

Ultimately, this episode is about much more than professional baseball. It is about development, hard work, patience, pressure, and finding a way to keep baseball fun.

Listen to Season 5, Episode 23 of The Slide Podcast for Aiden McIntyre’s story and his advice for the next generation of baseball players.
