  • Confident Content 7 Simple Reel Types You Could Be Creating

Creating reels and other short form videos (e.g. TikToks or Youtube shorts) is a common part of our small business marketing these days.

Yet I see so many small business owners still try to overcomplicate the process, or try to focus on trends that can be so hit and miss.

Yes you might need to get over the block of talking to the camera.

You might also need to get over the block of “will anyone actually want to hear from me”

And you need to remember that you’re a business owner, not an influencer so we’re not going to get stuck on video views but focus on whether we’re building trust and authority through our content. (On target comments, and messages and leads are what matter more than views)

Today I walk you through seven simple reel formats you can use to help your content stand out, and show what you know, and why people need to follow you and even work with you.

    Let’s get working!

    In this episode we cover:

    • Why it’s a good idea to try different formats

    • What formats work best for different stages of the customer journey

    • How to keep your reels and short videos simple

    • The simple process for each video type

    • Which ones are the simplest to try right away

    • How these can break through the “trend blandness” and build your authority

    • Why we’re not aiming for viral reels

  • Confident Content: Email Marketing - Your Top Questions Answered

Email marketing is so often ignored in our marketing. We take for granted the gift we get when someone gives us our email address.

I reckon it’s because of a range of reasons. We all get a pile of really bad emails which can skew how we feel about them. We might not actually think we’ve got anything relevant or useful to say. We’re not sure about email rules. We might just get really hurt if someone unsubscribes and don’t want to go through that pain?

But over it all, there’s an underlying feeling of “maybe it’s all just a big waste of time”

My clients come from all over the place. But nearly all of them convert in the end from my emails.

And my goal for my clients is for them to be getting at least thirty percent of their sales from email.

If they aren’t emailing at all to start, this s new growth they are tapping into!

Could you do with thirty percent growth in the next twelve months?

This podcast is answering questions from my Facebook group MAP IT Marketing. It’s a range of questions that people have that are preventing them from going all in. When I read through them, I saw so many common blocks - so this is going to be a slightly eclectic group of incredibly useful content all about email - I reckon there’s something for every one

Let’s dig in, dig deep and work out how to unblock you from email marketing and get those sales coming in.

    In this episode we cover:

    • Do you need to segment your email list?

    • What are the difference between lists, segments, groups and tags? (I’ll dive deeper in another podcast on this)

    • How do i create a plan so I can batch write my emails?

    • What’s a good open rate to expect?

    • What to do with a tiny list?

    • How often should you email your list?

    • Should I be linking to blogs or videos?

    • Is it just to get more sales?

This is part TWO of a three part live coaching series with my client Julie from Thinking Caps where we work together to plan and release her lead magnet. If you want to catch the first session, look for episode seven.

She uses this information to match your child with just the right study buddy – one who will really ‘get them’ and be a wonderful guide and mentor, as well as providing them with excellent learning.

Join me and Julie as we work together to create a plan, get inspiration and work through the tricky bits of creating a lead generation resource that’s going to help her attract her ideal clients, and grow her business

  • Confident Content: How To Make Sure You're Using The Right Hashtags - with Matthew Pierce

If there’s a weak area in my content marketing, it’s likely to include hashtags.

I know they can still help us make an impact. I know that platforms will still use them to help us get our content in front of our ideal audience.

And while we all need to think about the images we use, and making sure our content is captivating, hashtags can give us that extra icing on the cake when it comes to reach.

It used to be we could use thirty hashtags per post.

Now… it’s far less. It’s become so important to make every single one of them count.

I’m so excited to have some extra help this week with Matthew Pierce from Slay. So, who is my very favourite hashtag expert.

Matthew is here to help us unpick and uncomplicate exactly what we need to think about when selecting our hashtags

He is a developer, marketer, and the co-founder of an Instagram marketing automation platform, Slay.so (previously known as Hashtag Slayer), which he has built and grown with his wife, Danica.

The husband and wife team have been helping influencers and entrepreneurs take the stress out of Instagram hashtags since 2021, and have recently expanded their platform to help creators tackle content creation and social strategy, too.

I love their dedication to keeping things practical, how they’ve moved with the shifting changes of how hashtags are being used, and I know they are fully up to date with the latest of hashtag research and use.

So let’s all reduce our hashtag anxiety, listen in and learn. And get those hashtags humming for us!

    In this episode we cover:

    • Whether hashtags still have a place in our marketing

    • What changes have happened over the last few years

    • What hashtag expectations are (on Instagram)

    • What we need to be doing before choosing a hashtag

    • What range of hashtags work best

    • How you can use tools to make this whole process easier

  • Confident Content: Live Coaching: Creating Converting Content for a 'Boring Business' - with Renee Joblin

In the age of “it pays to be creative” how do you create content that helps people choose you? How do you create this sort of content and what should it look like?

In this live coaching session I work with Renee Joblin who owns Joblin Engineering with her husband (the engineer). ( check it out if you’re listening near Rolleston in Canterbury NZ.

This small but awesome firm’s focus is being the most convenient for their often rural, and very time constrained customers. As they say “We’re here to help look after your machinery and equipment, whether it’s repairing, rebuilding, or creating you something new. We’re all about saving you stress, time and cost-per-use money. “

They also have a few of their own bespoke designs they’d like to promote further

I personally think ALL businesses are interesting, but it is fair to say in social media, it feels easier to sell a pretty cake with a great image, than a great weld.

Renee is not afraid to use humour, and is really good at building engagement with her witty reels, images and comments. But what she’s missing is that next step and making it all a bit more about getting clients.

Today we walk through how to build out her content so it includes these areas, and make it as easy and sustainable to do as possible.

    In this episode we cover:

    •  What Renee is already doing well

    • What she needs to focus on now

    • How to use evergreen content to make her content simpler

    • Why autolists can help her

    • What she needs to do to get more conversions on her content

    • What she needs to do after that’s all up and running.

  • Confident Content: Which of These 25 Core Beliefs Are You Talking to in Your Marketing?

One of the biggest mistakes we make in our marketing is trying to get people to “get ready” to work with us, instead of talking to people who already know they need someone like us.

While there is a time and a place for education and opening people up to new ideas and opportunities, as a small business we need to be focused and clear on our ideal client, and focus on them.

We’re looking at twenty-five beliefs that your ideal customer could/should feel to be ready to buy from you.

When we create content that assumes they already believe these (or others that you might come up with), we naturally attract people who are more ready to buy from us.

I recommend selecting three that you then focus on over and over again in your marketing. All you’ve got to do is choose them, decide what sort of content is going to show you’re able to meet that need, and then where you’ll share that content.

    In this episode we cover:

    • Why we want to talk to people at the “now” stage of the buyers journey

    • What identifying these beliefs our customers hold can do for our marketing

    • Why I recommend three core beliefs

    • What happens to all the people not at this stage?

    • What sort of content I can use to build my authority and influence in this space.

    • How this thinking is reflected in our content
