On this episode I talk about this being the end of this show and this era, the reasons for it, and of course, the unfortunate passing of my mom. I miss her so much. I'm grieving pretty hard right now, and while we have been slowly taking care of mom's affairs and this home, I'm left feeling both parts hallow and oddly optimistic. I feel gutted over the death of my poor sweet mother and the nature of her battle with cancer, and the harsh reality of her passing.

But we also know that, over time, this gives us a brand new chance for a life with fresh opportunities and a new, more lively vibe! As beneficiaries of this mobile home (it was always parlty ours, but now it's completely ours), it is both parts financially scary, but also exciting, offering a renewed sense of making this place feel joyful, bright, and whole again after a harrowing battle with cancer.

We're trying to turn the page and think mindfully about the future, while making sure that our finances are covered first, while creating a renewed sense of comfort and joy in this living space. My mom, who loved "her" living room, is now slowly becoming our space now for relaxation and respite, as we slowly but surely expand our newfound space and freedom, while honoring mom and her memory, and what we think would be her wishes.

This show was always about helping out regular people, the "working poor," the struggling lower middle class, and finding solutions to regular people's problems, and to find strength and solidarity in our shared reality. To offer hope and ways that we regular people can seek and find a more robust life and greater health, given financial limitations, and sometimes mental health baggage that many regular people carry from a lifetime of poverty, dashed dreams, and trauma. Here, I talk about what this show was all about, and my continued mission to be a salt of the earth helper, to maximize kindness and forward leaning values, and to be a cheerleader for all good folks who are just trying their best, but just need some encouragements, positivity, and hope.

This show means a whole lot to me, but what I wasn't expecting was that I would go through my own set of mental health and life issues during all this, and come to find that I need people and hope as much as we try to offer it to others here. This was always about building a community of like minded good natured folks who could be there for one another, to offer nuggets of wisdom, encouragement, and acceptance. But unfortunately, esoteric, emotionally intelligent and sensitive things like this are often met by general audiences with derision, apathy, or confusion.

But for many people, this channel was a beacon of positivity and tenderness, kindness meets hard knock life humor. A safe space for all misfits, weirdos, empaths, goths, spookies, and people who feel different out there in the world, that is filling up with cruelty and stupidity. For all intents and purposes, we wanted to be a solution to the madness out there, a place we could find clarity and answers together. To talk about ghosts and the paranormal, cryptids, portals, and nall unexplained phenomenon, but also important social issues, mental health support, being an empath or sensitive, but moreover, to just find a comfort in this life; to be accepted in a world that is going off the rails.

So we thank you all for your friendship and support! I'll miss you guys. I appreciate all of you! Mom, I love you, forever and ever!

These times have been downright dark and tough around here. I've tried maintaining a positive, fun, and light hearted disposition, and to make this feel fun and substantive for people, while tackling real life issues in a fun, down to earth, and upbeat way. To be advocates for working class people and forward thinking values. This has always been about starting a small community of like-minded individuals, to talk about real life things and real life problems and hardships, as well as our silly joys of the paranormal and woo woo stuff. But mostly, to find connections and solutions for and with other regular working class folks. This has always been about keeping it real, robust living for regular people, and good mental health While many will sell out for the almighty dollar, we just want to continue being happy and feel good about who we are and what we're doing in this short sweet life.

But we too unfortunately can't work for free, and therefore, I'm putting this channel on the back burner in order to to go back to work, to work on my own growth and betterment, and to help my dear mom get through this battle with cancer until the bitter end. We'll still come on here and put out some fun and good heartfelt videos, the occasional update, and various topics about life, and even some random stuff like cooking, exploring, etc. We just wanted to tell you what's going on, and to thank you for your patronage and support. It means a lot to us.

But don't stray too far, we're still here, just that right now, in these seriously difficult times, we gotta keep ourselves afloat before we can continue helping assist others. This isn't goodbye, it's just a shift in making sure we're prioritizing our health and survival over trying to make it as podcasters and Youtubers. But we'll come back from time to time; to share, to teach, to laugh, to feel good, and to spread kindness and everyday kitchen table values. To say hi and to maintain our friendships with those of you who we've gotten to know over the course of this wild, weird, wonderful podcasting and YouTubing experience!

This is a new series on The Snarky Empath, called "Empath's Journal," which will be a weekly or twice a week vlog about my thoughts, feelings, and musings about life and various things. Today, I talk about stepping up into adulthood and embracing what is necessary to find balance, peace of mind, productivity, and success, even though right now I have a hanging heart about my mom's battle with cancer.

Here, I speak about what it takes for average folks to find clarity, happiness, and some form of success, despite an entire juggernaut of institutions bent on disregarding us, and making us feel worthless until we eventually fail and succumb to our socioeconomic limitations. This world wants regular people to fail, to step in line, and to know our place. But our place is where our hearts can rise up to its highest potential, where we can embrace change, find our new ways and means, and not give in to defeat, poor mental health, or financial setbacks.

At the end of the day, we are not our circumstances, we are only as good as we crave to be, and sometimes, we must force this world to acknowledge little ol' us, to take a stand, and to make our lives as good as we know it can be. But not until we can truly find balance, and manage to find and embrace our best self that we know is possible.

On this episode we talk about kindness, and to what extent does kindness exist, or no longer exist, in today's culture today,, here in America! We talk about the causes and effects that may be causing our society to become less kind, and then ask the age old question, was the "good ol' days" actually good or better than things are now, and it what ways? At the end, I ask AI what causes the lessening of kindness in our society, and we discuss whether or not these things sounds correct or not. As you get older, you want less stress, worry, and nonsense in your life, nor more! As some of you know, life got super real when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I didn't always know how to deal with it well. As a consequence, I dabbled with unhealthy coping mechanisms, and this channel took a back seat to all of my worries and angst over life, with depression, anxiety, and uncertainty giving me life paralysis and apathy over the things I care about most, including this here show. While Rebecca grew ever increasingly fed up and overwhelmed with her demanding customer service job.

As some of you know, mom's been in and out of the hospital, and we've had to take her to the ER multiple times. Just today we were told that the cancer has progressed to the point it's causing physical symptoms like low energy, loss of appetite, and more. It's easy in a crazy world, and especially with personal problems stacking up, to let everything suck away your fun and joy. But if we can pull out of it, so can anybody, including you!

This video (or audio) is all about the trip that helped us regain control and perspective, helping us to reset our resolve and strength in making sure that life always remains joyful and fun, despite having a full plate of problems and imperfections. Never let the perfect be the enemy of the good, meaning; life's messy! The world can feel overwhelming and downright dark, turbulent, and nuts! But, when we get adequate rest, and continually have a plan of attack for a better, more robust life, we can forge ahead, even surprising ourselves in achieving a life that feels more emotionally meaningful and gratifying.

Just a few short months ago I was dealing with my demons, but I (mostly) conquered them. No more insomnia, very little anxiety and depression, and no more drinking to deal with the insurmountable grief and anxiety; I feel pretty darn good! I just wanted to share that wisdom with you, my "out there" friends, so you too can find the life, the mindset, and the balance in life that may not be exactly what you wanted, but that's closer to living a decent life of substance and meaning. I've learned to truly be selfless and egoless, I went through so much change and hardship that I went through a kind of "ego death," and now have an even more profound desire to help people, to feel good and feel good enough, and to have the tools to better themselves and deal with all the craziness this life throws at you.

As a longtime radio guy, the problem with this show has never been my ability to speak my mind or say what's real. It's just that, podcasters and long time radio hosts like myself, with limited staff, sometimes flounder on YouTube, in video format that is sometimes limiting, because it's such a different format of media than what we radio people are used to. Sometimes it's different in good ways, sometimes it makes me feel like I have to be like all the rest. We changed the name from The Bryar Patch to The Snarky Empath for a couple of reasons. First, to simplify searching for us without the complicated spelling, but more than that, to start fresh after a series of hardships, and to truly become the dynamic and fun platform I know this can be.

This show was and will always be about exemplifying a zeal for life and to represent good forward thinking values. To offer clarity, purpose, positivity, and hope, and to teach the tools, knowledge, and wisdom it takes for people to master a world that's difficult and not always so kind or just. We want to encourage those who might be struggling in the workaday life, given vast limitations in an ever changing world. As fellow regular working class people, we all contend with unbelievable challenges and setbacks in the modern world, and don't always know where to turn.

We here at The Snarky Empath want to create a show that's truly different from the rest, from that same ol' clickbait nonsense out there. We sincerely want to create a community for good natured people who aren't too dissimilar from us, that's fun loving and welcoming. To put on a show that is heartfelt, funny, and as real as it gets, which examines life and the world today in a way that's super real and down to earth, that's a bit irreverent but still good natured, and for which speaks about the difficulties we regular folks contend with, givin how weird and unprecedented things are getting.

As an empath, I've learned that the world isn't always going to play fair or be nice, and it can be downright discouraging, sometimes to the point of being debilitating. But as a former soldier, I've learned that you have to find the will to survive, to cultivate the fortitude, discipline, and the right attitude. We must all find the determination and a greater wisdom and confidence to rise above the fray of the noise and the nonsense out there, to create a version of yourself that can endure the rigors of the realities of real life. We all must find this delicate balance between gentle kindness and gritty tenacity, of compassion and self preservation. The world can often make you feel bitter and defeated, but here at The Snarky Empath, we aim to help people find humor, clarity, and friendship and a better attitude. To connect and commiserate with like souls who want to find a way to cut through the noise and the negativity, and develop the life skills and an abundant heart and mind; to be both equal parts soldier and equal parts empath.

This life can be beautiful, majestic, and bountiful. But when things don't go our way, it can also be downright discouraging and unfair. There's a lot of mediocrity out there for us average folks. But, where there is a will there's always a way. This new change to the name and show is our little way of truly coming out of our shell and going for broke, to becoming the show and the kind of people we know that we are and that we know that we are meant to be. So, welcome to The Snarky Empath! Where you'll find humor, heart, and a little but of playful shenanigans! Life ain't for the meek, but sensitivity isn't a weakness, it can be a superpower when we find the courage and the knowledge to rise, resist, and rebuild the life that we truly want and need. But we must be mindful and act!

This past year we decided to take our audio podcast to YouTube, but it hasn't been easy, nor as rewarding as I was hoping it would be. Cancer diagnoses, people dying, financial strain, burnout, both in life and as podcasters, then this election, my mental health was trashed, and I fell into a slump, as well as some not so healthy coping mechanisms. But I'm back, clean and healthy, and ready to go for broke and make this the best damn little known podcast we can make it! Here, I speak about some of the challenges we faced, the name change and retool that's coming very soon, and why this will succeed, if we just stick it out for the long haul, be ourselves, and not pander to the wrong kinds of people, short attention span audiences, and clickbait nonsense. By being real, doing good work, and having joy, we will find our stride like we once did on Surviving Empathy Podcast, and recapture the fun , humor, depth, and balance we once had. I sincerely want this to be a good experience for everyone, for myself and you guys equally! I'm proud of this show, but it takes time and a whole lot of perseverance, and not giving in to discouragement to find your people and tribe.
