The Soft Spot

Meg and Julian go it solo this week to talk about that hyper hormonal rite of passage - the school dance. Whether it was at the community rec center or the school cafeteria (sexy smells!), dances were peak adolescence. The songs (KC & Jojo anyone?) the clothes (thank you Contempo Casuals) and the smells (Drakkar all noir long baby) come together to make those magical evenings that never really ended the way they were supposed to (La Quinta Inn). Let’s dance!

This week we welcome the very funny New York comedian Anya Volz to talk about her Soft Spot: vampires! We dive right in and discuss our favorite vamp shows like True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Interview with a Vampire. Anya talks about her appreciation for queer representation in a lot of Vampire content of the last twenty years, and how that helps these works stay as timeless as their characters. We also can’t help but touch on the fact (many times over) that Alexander Skarsgård is the vampire king of our hearts and he can bite it wherever, whenever, baby!

Our guest this week is tremendous stand up and actor Emma Willmann.

If anyone will show you who they are with fantastic honesty, Emma will man. She talks about the things that bring her to her happy place; peanut butter, the Backstreet Boys, and porn (not necessarily in that order - obviously it would go porn, peanut butter, Backstreet). She also discusses the importance of elevating your sweater game to feel warm on the inside. So quit playing games with our hearts and listen to Emma’s bulletproof cure for the blues, PPB&BB.

This week we welcome the brilliant comedy writer and performer who ACTUALLY invented Yacht Rock, JD RYZNAR! Julian tries to keep it together while JD discusses his all time favorite rock band, Journey. It’s one of our favorite episodes full of heartfelt stories, hilarity, and the shocking fact that Meg knows more about Journey than Julian. Welcome this episode into your ears with open arms.

Our guest this week is funny man and real solid dude Vince Averil. Vince tells us about his straight edge stint in adolescence, his awesome dad, and his soft spot: wrestling! If wrestling is not your thing (it isn't ours!) fear not, because much like Wrestlemania, this episode is crazy and fun and ends with the audience as the real winner.

This week we welcome back Soft Spot favorite, comedian and actress Merrill Davis. Merrill proudly presents us with her “Softest Spot”... Stevie Nicks! We talk about her regal style, her one of a kind voice, her lyrical genius, her love for her male bandmates... and cocaine! This week we dug a bit deeper and Merrill got beautifully vulnerable about how listening to Stevie Nicks helped her cope with darker, more turbulent times in her life. If anyone has the power to make you feel like an independent bad bitch who can power thru anything, it is definitely Steve Nicks.

We also all take turns talking about our dream day with the witchy desert queen and we debate the coke in the butt rumors. It’s a fantastic episode, so grab your finest shawl and dance on over to the Soft Spot, baby!
