Season 2: The Great Weird North
Episode 6: The Northwest Territories
North of 60 is a unique land of magic and mystery. In this episode, we tell you the story of the Dene folk hero Yamǫ́rıa who rid the north of scary giant beavers. Evidence of his adventures still dot the land of the Northwest Territories. Then, we take a morbid turn into greed and mystery with stories of the Headless Valley. Were these decapitated people victims of an evil spirit? A serial killer? Did they cross paths with the Mad Trapper of Rat River? We may never know but we do know that these stories are some weird.

S02E04: Quebec
Season 2: The Great Weird North
Episode 4: Quebec
It is time to visit Quebec. While it’s known as the French province there is so much more that makes this slice of Canada unique. We talk about a decapitated sex worker who is seen every seven years in Montreal and how the demand for fancy hats helped shape a brand new version of the werewolf. Of course, what would this episode be without terrible French pronunciations and an exploration of that liquid gold: maple syrup.

Season 2: The Great Weird North
Episode 1: New Brunswick
New Brunswick is one of the four OG provinces that formed Canada on July 1, 1867. In this episode, we tell you all about the legend of the Dungarvan Whooper. This is just one of the many tales from the lumber camps that dotted the forests of NB in the 1800s but is this one true? Some folks are certainly convinced it is … or they choose to err cautiously so they do not accidentally taunt the Whooper. We then tell a very real story of sabotage from WWI. Maybe the cold Canadian winter was our best ally in this plot of international intrigue.

In this, the first of (hopefully) many wee weird episodes, we introduce you to Season 2: The Great Weird North. Canada is known worldwide as a beacon for people across the world but did a small town in rural Alberta take this a step too far into the friendly zone?

Happy Holidays to all! As we all gear up to wind down this dumpster fire of a year Crissy and Barry talk about Christmas Mummering in Newfoundland, a truly unique tradition of dressing up in the craziest of homemade disguises and traveling house to house performing and dancing for payment of booze and Purity syrup. Sounds fun, right? But, as always, there is a darker side. What happened to make this Christmastime tradition illegal for 100 years and how do horse skulls fit in?

Are we alone in the universe? At least one RCMP officer and one media mogul from Newfoundland think not. In this episode, Crissy and Barry discuss UFO sightings in Newfoundland and Labrador including the famous 1978 Clarenville sighting by a respected policeman. Are all of those strange things in the sky weather balloons, meteors, airplanes or visitors from another planet?
