Thanks for swinging by this episode. I'm super stoked to introduce my second guest in my podcast series, singer-songwriter Joseph Miller from Asbury Park, NJ.

Joseph is originally from upstate NY but moved down to this legendary music city to embed himself in the music scene. So far, he has been named the 2012 "Top Male Vocalist" winner by the New Jersey Acoustic Music Awards and has received multiple nominations from the Asbury Park Music Awards.

Influenced by folk, soul, rock and blues, Joseph's music covers a wide range of musical styles. His latest album "Songs Of Travel For The Vagabond" is deeply rooted in American folk and laced with inspiring doses of his personality throughout.

I was grateful to have the chance to chat with Joseph about his music and also "The Songwriter's Planner"! Joseph was one of my first pre-order customers upon going live earlier this year. Today I'm super excited to bring on the first guest to my podcast. A good friend of mine and my "Guinea Pig" interviewee if you will, solo acoustic artist, musician, singer - songwriter Mike Mercier.

Back Story

Mike and I go way back. He and I both played in the same working cover band here in the states for 6 years. He has been playing music in both original projects, cover bands and as a solo artist for the past 25 + years releasing multiple albums along the way.

Most recently, he's moved his operation to Sweden to play music as a traveling solo acoustic performer. He is a full time musician (and has been for most of his career) and makes a living traveling across Europe playing gigs in just about any pub, bar, club or venue out there.

His travels and experiences have brought him a wealth of knowledge in what it takes to play music full time either in the US or abroad and I couldn't think of a better person to kick off my first interview!

Welcome to The Songwriter’s Podcast Episode #2

This podcast originally started out as a blog for me. Matter of fact I had originally gotten through the whole thing and was ready to post it!

But it was at this time I had set a goal for myself to start a podcast and I thought “Why not turn this into a podcast instead?”

So here we are!

Setting goals can be a tricky thing as an artist. If they are too “lofty” then we tend to get overwhelmed and lose sight of them. If they are too small they don’t push us forward enough to feel like we’re making progress.

In this podcast I want to outline actual tangible goals that you can implement in a 6 month time frame that will help build your fan base, raise awareness about your music to possible new fans and help you feel fulfilled about your progress. Giving general advice is one thing, but suggesting real action is another. And that’s what I hope to accomplish here.

Here’s what you can expect to learn in this podcast:

1). 4 Real world examples of goals you can accomplish in 6 months that will help you grow your fanbase and awareness online.

2). Why setting goals and telling yourself that you are going to work on them is not enough. You need action.

3). I’ll suggest actual FREE online services you can use to help you achieve these goals so you can get started today at no cost.

4). Why it’s important to have your own email list (newsletter) and how that can help you long term as an artist as social media sites change.

I hope you find this podcast valuable to you and it helps give you some ideas into what you can achieve in the next 6 months for your music career. Building a fan base and creating opportunities for people to find/hear you is challenging these days. There are sooo many great artists out there.

Staying consistent with these real world & achievable goals will give you a good foundation into finding more fans and make you more productive as an artist.
