Greetings, and thank for swinging by this podcast!
Today I'm super excited to bring on the first guest to my podcast. A good friend of mine and my "Guinea Pig" interviewee if you will, solo acoustic artist, musician, singer - songwriter Mike Mercier.
Back Story
Mike and I go way back. He and I both played in the same working cover band here in the states for 6 years. He has been playing music in both original projects, cover bands and as a solo artist for the past 25 + years releasing multiple albums along the way.
Most recently, he's moved his operation to Sweden to play music as a traveling solo acoustic performer. He is a full time musician (and has been for most of his career) and makes a living traveling across Europe playing gigs in just about any pub, bar, club or venue out there.
His travels and experiences have brought him a wealth of knowledge in what it takes to play music full time either in the US or abroad and I couldn't think of a better person to kick off my first interview!
What You Will Learn In This Podcast:
1). How he got started to be able to play music as a full time musician and what challenges are involved and things you'll need to know if you've ever thought about doing it yourself.
2). How and why he decided to say "Yes" to his first trip to Sweden and start playing shows to make a name for himself as a travelling musician abroad.
3). How he handles booking shows and getting consistent work across Europe both through an agency and on his own.
4). How being American musician performing in venues where he doesn't speak the language can be an advantage or work in his favor.
5). What "Must Have" gear he takes with him when traveling.
6). Which songs from his set list go over the best for his audiences when playing abroad.
7). Valuable advice for anyone thinking about taking their music over to Europe and building a successful music career there.
Mike's story is very unique and he's had the opportunity to experience many playing situations over the years and I am very thankful I was able to get him on this podcast as my first interview.

I hope the discussion here helps inspire you as a musician to follow whatever it is you want to achieve whether it be to play music full time, writing and releasing your own albums, joining up with a working band or just getting better at writing your own songs and producing your music.
Much Thanks!
