The Sons of History discuss President Trump's recent use of the national emergency power provided to him by the National Emergency Act of 1976. The Executive Branch has continued to grow in power over the past century, but is Congress and the American People finally coming to grip that the Executive Branch has grown too powerful? Alan Wakim and Dustin Bass talk about how America has gotten to where it is today.

The Sons of History also gave their book recommendations. They might even be considering changing to one book and one movie recommendation. The jury is still out.
The UK looks like it is all but out of the EU. The Brexit is almost complete. This got Alan Wakim, of The Sons of History, thinking. What if there was an American version of Brexit in which states got out of the Union? Of course, we are all familiar with the secession movement of the 1860s, and the end result of the Civil War. But there continues to be whispers of seceding from the Union from states like Texas, California, and Vermont.
The Sons of History discuss the pros and cons of leaving the Union and why the Founding Fathers saw the preservation of the Union as the most important aspect of the country.
Dustin Bass and Alan Wakim also provide their book recommendations.

This is part two of The Sons of History's talk on socialism. The constant rage for a socialized economy continues to be requested by those who either know what it is and deliberately misrepresent it, or by those simply do not know what it is. Last week's episode discussed whether or not those "socialist" Nordic countries were actually socialist. This week the discussion is more on the methods and results of a socialist economy and a free market economy.
The Sons of History also offer their personal book recommendations, and in record time too!

There has been a lot of tossing and turning over which countries are actually socialist and which ones are not. The Sons of History discuss precisely what socialism is because there seems to be a halo that keeps being put on the ideology. We also clear up any confusion about those "socialist" Nordic countries.
So for any self-proclaimed socialists out there, and anyone else for that matter, give it a listen. And if you want, drop Sen. Bernie Sanders a line and tell him to listen in as well.
Dustin Bass and Alan Wakim also give their book recommendations.

Dustin Bass and Alan Wakim of The Sons of History selected several black American athletes to discuss for Black History Month. Kenny Washington, Jesse Owens, Jack Johnson, and Major Taylor were on the list. You won't want to miss how these athletes changed the game in America.
Also, The Sons of History talk about their personal favorite athletes growing up. They also, as always, give their book recommendations.

It's Black History Month! That's all good and dandy, but how much do you know about black history in America? The Sons of History are taking the next few weeks to dig deeper into the great heritage left by black people in America. In this episode we are ranging from the American Revolution to World War II and the influence, heroism, and sacrifice of black soldiers. Enjoy!
Also, Alan Wakim and Dustin Bass have their two book selections: one fiction and one non-fiction.
Is there anything wrong with colonialism? Yes. No. Maybe. Definitely. Not really. Probably. It depends.
Colonialism has been given a bad name recently, and that's not a bad thing. But it isn't a good thing. The Sons of History will discuss in rather short order the history of colonialism and its pros and cons.
America is in the midst of its longest government shutdown and it revolves around immigration and the southern border. To build a wall or not to build a wall. Is that the question? The Sons of History dig deeper into other options America has and has not utilized in its past, which involve backing or instituting overthrows of foreign governments (CIA, anyone?), becoming involved in local and regional conflicts nowhere near our borders, and not being involved at all.

This current government shutdown is now tied for the second longest on record at 16 days. The longest government shutdown happened during the Clinton Administration in 1995. It's length? Twenty-one days! The Sons of History discuss the demands from both sides and what could possibly happen if President Trump and the House-majority Democrats held out against each other indefinitely.
The Sons of History take a gander at some of the big moments that took place in 2018. Trump and Kim. The Parkland shooting. Immigration. The Kavanaugh appointment. And more. Give it a listen!
