Are you sacrificing and self-abandoning hoping it will eventually pay off?

It's not random that you have those thoughts. Much of the corporate rules we see today were created when there were large unions.  In the system of those unions, you did sacrifice....but there was a trade-off.  You self-abandoned and companies kept you for 30 years, gave you regular raises, paved the road to promotions and gave you a nice pension.

Those days are over, yet you may be operating as though that agreement till exists.
