I used to get so angry if I didn’t achieve a goal, and yet, soon afterwards, I’d have a grander focus than that goal.
As this happened more often, I began to realize how much time and energy I’d waste in frustration, thinking about how I didn’t achieve something in a certain timeline…or how I haven’t achieved something yet.
Sometimes that frustration would propel to go for life with more hunger and energy.
Sometimes I’d just stay frustrated and miss out on the opportunities of the moment that surrounded me.
Eventually, I gave up the attachment on my goals.
That doesn’t mean I didn’t stop setting them; there’s a huge value to having clear outcomes.
I just wasn’t as attached, knowing that if I didn’t achieve what I was after, I could just go for something better.
This focus took me away from the structured goal-setting mentality and put my focus more on the journey.
As I focused more on the journey, I witnessed more serendipity and synchronicity.
Wow, I’d think, how could I have forgotten about the magic of life.
See, whether we’re conscious of it or not, we’re all so guided.
The people we meet, the ideas we have, the decisions we make – especially when we follow our gut or heart, all of it is part of a bigger play.
I don’t subscribe to the idea that either you’re setting goals and outcomes or you’re all “in the flow”.
They’re both important.
So, focus on the journey, set intentions, set outcomes, set goals, and remember that if you don’t achieve the goal…it’s just a bus stop…and there are more to come.
The goal is never the goal.
The goal is just an excuse to get you into action.
In that action, you move with life and life moves with you.
You’re introduced to new people, places, ideas, and quests that take you to new directions…all for the purpose of collaboratively creating a greater impact for life.

On today’s episode, I give an update on what it’s been like writing “Shackled” with my grandfather.
The book chronicles his life story – being politically imprisoned for twenty years at the young age of six years old, experiencing the tragedies of family members being executed, finding light through expanding his knowledge (he learned six languages, thousands of poems, philosophies from the great Eastern and Western philosophers, and more), and through it all, choosing love, kindness, compassion, wisdom, and humanity as the values he’d live by.
I’ll make sure he sees it.
This book has been the hardest thing I’ve ever written.
It’s very personal.
Every chapter I’ve written has been typed with a richness of emotion, everything from grief to rage to gratitude to honor.
It’s been challenging.
Just to write the fullness of my grandfather’s story, I’ve had to really be with his experiences – many of them full with an adversity that’s incomprehensible.
It’s been a long journey.
The entire writing process has happened over the course of the past four years, more strongly the past two. The real journey, of course, goes way before I was born. It was 1932 when my grandpa was playing on the rooftop with his brother and cousin. Then, suddenly, loud cries and screams came from the courtyard below them. They quickly climbed down to see what all the chaos was about. There, in the center of a circle of family, maids, chefs, and attendants, was the bloodied body of his uncle. That marked the beginning of his imprisonment.
It’s been sacred.
I’ve gotten to know my grandpa and my lineage with profound depth. The bond I have with them all is priceless, and would’ve never happened had I not claimed the opportunity to write this book.

Today, our special guest is Ryland Engelhart, who is the Mission Fulfillment Officer for Cafe Gratitude and Gracias Madre (two of my favorite restaurants which I frequently dine at).
If you live in Los Angeles, San Diego, Newport Beach, or San Francisco, and you haven’t yet gone to Cafe Gratitude…you need to go and experience the extraordinarily delicious, nutritious, healthy food and positively inspiring atmosphere Ryland and the team have co-created there.
Ryland is also a leader in sacred commerce, not just through his restaurants, but also as workshop leader and a speaker.
He is also the co-producer of the award winning transformational documentary “May I Be Frank“.
Our interview hits off with Ryland’s raw, real and compassionate perspective that speaks to the discord and divide many of us have felt in the U.S., let alone the world.
We dive and explore the essence of sacred commerce as Ryland tells the story of how Cafe Gratitude went from a mom & pop restaurant to a thriving franchise that sets a new standard for positivity, health, and great vibes that attracts a crowd from all around the world.

I first stumbled upon Unified Soul Theory, now rebranded as Uplifting Content, when I was scrolling down my newsfeed on Facebook and saw Prince EA shared a post of theirs.
The Facebook page had a very similar tone as Prince EA’s messages – promoting love, kindness, growth, joy, gratitude, abundance, humanity, soul, unity.
Immediately, I Facebook liked their page and stayed in the loop with them for months.
Throughout those months, I saw them rapidly grow their audience and reach of their beautiful messages.
That’s when I knew I had to interview the creative genius behind this movement.
Enter Ione Butler…
Ione Co-Founded Unified Soul Theory with Prince EA after she worked with him on one of his viral videos.
Beyond that, she has lived a colorful and unique life as an actress, podcaster, vlogger and much more.
Recently, Ione has made quite a daring decision…
When Ione’s friend died suddenly in a car accident, she was shocked with the temperance and fragility of life.
After her friend’s death, another friend asked her a powerful question: What would you do if you only had 5 months to live?
She said, “I’d travel with family and friends!”
What would you do if you had 5 weeks to live?
Ione replied with the same answer.
What if you had 5 days to live?
Ione came up with the same answer.
Her friend told her that clearly what she really wants to do in life is travel the world, and that she shouldn’t put it off any longer.
Inspired by this conversation, Ione committed to living in the now, like Eckhart Tolle says.
And so she embarked on her travels…
She’s already a few days into a 3 month journey throughout South America that’s completely based on audience suggestions.
So…if you personally know some great places or activities to do in South America, make sure to participate in this fun experience of guiding Ione on her journey!
I’m not making any bullet point highlights for this spontaneous conversation, instead, I want you to…

Cassandra De Pecol is about to become the first ever documented woman to travel to every country in the world, and she’s doing it to promote world peace and sustainability.
And…she’s breaking a Guinness world record by traveling around the world in the fastest time.
What initially started with a desire to do something big turned into an expedition plan after her 25th birthday.

Have you dreamed of traveling the world?
Have you wished you could visit beautiful locations like the islands of Thailand, Machu Picchu in Peru, or Iceland?
And at the same time, have you felt halted back because of the cost to travel?
If you answered yes to all of the above, I’ve got some great news for you…
My guest today will show you why traveling does not have to be expensive.
Sebastian Kaatz is the Co-Founder of Travel Pirates, a company that helps people travel around the world on a pirate’s budget. The only thing you’ll have to do once paid for is make sure you’re all packed and ready for where you’re going, as an example if you’re going to visit Iceland you may want to read into different Iceland campervan packing list articles to ensure you’re ready for everything the country could throw at you.
Sebastian Co-Founded the company with his partner Igor after they both discovered their love for travel, their dislike for paying too much, and their secret to finding extraordinary bargains.
The dynamic duo started off by posting error fare deals, one of which massively boosted their popularity where people got a free flight to Japan.
With entrepreneurial hustle and a grand vision, the team of two expanded to a team of 160 people working globally.
Today, Travel Pirates is the largest travel company on Facebook.
They post hundreds of deals a month for people within the U.S., and even more in Germany where they have their strongest following.

If you consider yourself a seeker, you may have stumbled across Wake Up World on social media.
Wake Up World is a media publication with a mission to offer information that they believe will help people to live better, see through the lies, and break down the old ways of thinking and being that no longer serve our society.
They feature content from a range of topics including physical health, emotional and spiritual growth, political and historical awareness, and social and environmental sustainability.
The media publication was founded by Ryan Mullins and Andy Whiteley, and is currently home to a community of over 3.5 million people on Facebook alone. This makes them a prominent name in cannabis marketing and other alternative medicine markets.
The publication opens the eyes of thousands of readers and teaches them all about alternative medicine and its benefits. Not everyone knows about alternative medicine and often have questions, like what is herbal medicine? What is dabbing? and this publication sheds light on those unanswered questions.
Ryan and Andy are not just partners in Wake Up World, but also partners in real life.
Recently, I had the opportunity to interview the dynamic duo about their mission with Wake Up World.
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/292023556″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]
Previous to Wake Up World, the two were working for two of the largest corporations in the world.
Ryan joked about this time period, stating how he felt like a fraud in a suit and like the corporate life was eating away at his soul.
He knew he was meant for more, but at the time he didn’t know what that “more” was.
Finally, one day, Ryan couldn’t continue living his life the same way.
He decided to quit his job with a simple plan of taking time for himself to just be.
Andy was still working during the time and supported both of them during Ryan’s transition.
Eventually, Ryan got to a point where he figured he had to go and get a job again.
He applied for over 70 jobs, all which he was certainly qualified for, and yet he was constantly being knocked back.
He’d make it to the final interview and the employers would decide not to hire any of the finalists.
During this time period, Ryan continued to grow more frustrated with the information (and misinformation) that was being blasted 24/7 by mainstream news organizations.
After some time, the fuses finally blew.
Ryan couldn’t take what he was hearing anymore.
Thus, he started Wake Up World: a small, simple blog where he could express his voice and feelings.
His fire fueled him to write every day.
As he continued writing, people started reaching out, thanking him for his messages.
Some of them even asked if they could be contributors.
This is when he realized that there were more people in the world that shared his perspectives, that were seekers, that wanted the truth, and that wanted to change the world into a new paradigm that serves the planet harmoniously.
During this time, Andy had no intention to get involved for Wake Up World.
After he left his corporate job in 2012, he was planning on transitioning to another job.
However, just like Ryan’s experience, Andy kept getting knocked back.
The energy of the situation felt similar, and he knew there was something in the bigger picture happening.
What Andy didn’t expect was that this time period led to his greatest awakening experiences and as he describes, his “dark night of the soul”.
Soon, it was obvious to him that he had to get involved with Wake Up World’s mission…so he joined as Co-Founder, Editor, and Writer.
Fortunately for the duo, Wake Up World’s mission grew exponentially during this time period.
The website and Facebook page were growing not just in readers and followers, but also in conversations revolving awakening.
“People came [to Wake Up World] for the cannabis and stay for the chemtrails,” said Andy as he chuckled. This seems true – many who go to the site look for advice on topicals online, but stay for the content around it.
Today, the platform is a host to millions of readers.
It’s compiled with tons of articles on almost every topic with writers contributing from all around the world.
Although the story sounds like an “overnight success” or a “lucky strike”, Ryan and Andy faced many challenges along the way.
For one, they weren’t technically adept to run a blog in the beginning.
Also, with topics ranging from how cannabis products from places like old 27 lansing can help cancer patients heal to the evidence and dangers of geo-engineering (chemtrails), Wake Up World has been subject to criticism, trolling, cyber attacks and hackers.
Despite all this, the two have gone on to create one of the most massive media platforms in Internet history.
While talking about the challenges they experienced, Andy mentioned that Ryan’s desktop background has a quote that says:
The greatest oak was once a little nut that held it’s ground.
“That’s how Wake Up World started,” said Andy.
The two stood firmly for what they believed in, despite all the criticism and challenges.
Throughout the years, they saw people who trolled them and called them crazy become advocates for what they promoted.
Today, Ryan’s mission with Wake Up World is to get to a point where Wake Up World isn’t needed anymore because the world can see past the illusion.
He ultimately wants the information that’s shared in the world to be about seeing and being the good in the world.
On the other hand, Andy’s mission is to have networks like Wake Up World become the mainstream media, as opposed to alternative media.
He ultimately wants the baseline for information to be truth expressed through the media to be truth.
I asked both Ryan and Andy to recommend some articles for first-time readers, as well as what they perceive as the most important piece of content on Wake Up World.

Chelsea Dinsmore is the Chief Inspiration Officer of Live Your Legend, a movement of over 200,000+ living passionate, purposeful lives.
I first found out about Live Your Legend about 5 years ago when I was deciding what I wanted to name my blog.
The first idea I had was “Live Your Legend”, and unfortunately…the .com for the domain was already bought.
I figured nobody would want the .net, after all…who uses a .net these days?
My search was met with a stunning surprise: liveyourlegend.net was taken.
What?! I thought. Who took liveyourlegend.net?! They better be doing something epic with it…
As I entered the domain in Safari and hit the “enter” button, I was amazed by what appeared.
It was a website that spoke to everything I was feeling at the time, which was primarily about leaving the traditionally-cut out lifestyle and embracing world travel, entrepreneurship, and exploring my passion and purpose to the deepest level.
When I came across Live Your Legend, I felt a joy that there were more people who shared this feeling like I did.
After all, my family, friends, peers, and just about everybody thought I was nuts at the time (perhaps many still do today).
So needless to say, I was very excited when I met Chelsea last December at Tony Robbins’ Date With Destiny seminar.
At the same time, I felt sad.
At the time I met Chelsea, it was only two months since her late-husband and Founder of Live Your Legend, Scott Dinsmore, had a tragic incident when he and Chelsea were nearing the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Through his intense passion, dedication, will and hustle, Scott built a movement that inspired and touched tons of peoples’ lives, including mine.
Chelsea, like the badass champion she is, wasn’t going to let Scott’s legacy crumble…so she picked up the torch to lead Live Your Legend.
Today, she’s going to share with you timeless wisdom on everything from relationship advice (the two were a loving, passionate, awesome, entrepreneurial power couple) to professional blogging tips to how she made it through such a tragedy to recognizing your limitless nature.
