Our guest this morning is Freddy Zelaya Jr. Freddy has been the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Fort Lauderdale since April 2007.

Freddy began his career in emergency management 15 years ago after Hurricane Andrew.

In 1998 he was given the opportunity to serve the community of Miami-Dade County working for the American Red Cross of Greater Miami and The Keys Chapter as a Human Resources and Volunteer Management Specialist.

Freddy then went on to work for Seaboard Marine as a Human Resources Specialist and had the opportunity to assist with the aftermath of 9/11 in New York City.

In 2002, he returned to the American Red Cross of Greater Miami as Disaster Management Coordinator and was then recruited to work for the City of Fort Lauderdale as the Emergency Management Coordinator. 

His responsibilities include: Mitigation, Planning, Response and Recovery of all Hazardous materials within the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Our guests this morning are Jon Snodgrass and CJ Moebius of Pacific Pedal Cruiser.

Jon is originally from Wisconsin and fell in love with Southern California when he visited the area during college.

He’s been working in Milwaukee as a Loan consultant for a mortgage company since 2004 and will be relocating permanently to the South Bay in the next few weeks.

He’s spent so much time in the South Bay over the years, in 2011 he started Pacific Pedal Cruiser and invited a couple of friends to join him as business partners.

CJ Moebius is digital media sales professional and entrepreneur originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

CJ made the move to Los Angeles and after a few more years in the corporate fast lane, decided to join a start-up digital media company.

In 2011, Jon Snodgrass brought CJ in as a partner/investor to the Pacific Pedal Cruiser business in Hermosa Beach.

CJ runs the social media initiatives for Pacific Pedal Cruiser and has truly enjoyed helping the business evolve into something unique and great!

Today Chris and I are very proud to present to you both Team Rubicon and Cal Verdin. Cal joined the military at age 18 in 1990.

During basic training, Iraq invaded Kuwait and that started his 20 year career.

Cal served for more than a decade as a medic with the 82d Airborne Division and now serves as the Regional Commander of Team Rubicon’s Region 9.

Team Rubicon is a disaster response team formed by military veterans.

They deploy in the wake of domestic and international disaster as well as on proactive missions.

Our guest this morning is Claudio Taniguchi the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the City of Hawthorne and has been in that position for the last three years.

Currently, he heads up the Hawthorne CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) program which will host and share instruction of the class with LA County Fire for a fifth training this coming Saturday, June 9th. 

He has also recently organized and instructed two CERT trainings for Hawthorne Spanish speakers and plans one for this coming September. 

Mr. Taniguchi is presently writing the Emergency Operations Plan for the city and is actively promoting emergency preparedness in the community through homeowner association meetings.

He has embraced the Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) program and has presented to his neighbors and is impressed with the positive results that it’s garnered by bringing residents and resources together. 

This coming July, through Community Outreach Promoting Emergency Preparedness (COPE) he will present a Spanish version of MYN to residents in the Lomita area. 

He is a former high school Spanish teacher married to an elementary school teacher and is the father of three sons actively pursuing their dreams.
