May 18, 2012 Eric Baird, Author of "Emergency Preparedness Basics"
Today our guest is Eric Baird, author of the Emergency Preparedness Basics Book.
Eric is the Public Safety Commissioner for the City of Redondo Beach and will be Chairing a new
committee starting May 21st on Emergency Preparedness in Redondo Beach.
He is CERT trained and nominated to the board and may run for President in June.
He has been asked to participate in a new television reality series called The Armageddon Project on the
National Geographic Channel.
The idea of the show is similar to Home Make Over, but for emergency
preparedness with different homes and people from all walks of life.
A loving husband and father of two boys with a girl on the way as we speak, he is determined to help
others get better prepared for disasters of all kinds.

May 17, 2012 Keon Nayebdadash, partner Sophie’s Place of Redondo Beach
Today Jackie and I talk with Keon Nayebdadash, one of the partners of Sophie’s Place in Redondo Beach's Riviera Village.
Keon was born in San Francisco but moved to Palos Verdes at a very young age.
The South Bay has always been his home and he grew up skateboarding and surfing the beach cities.
His father was a restaurateur and owned The Edge restaurant on the Redondo Beach Pier, which
unfortunately burned down in the pier fire of 1985.
Keon and his three brothers were raised in the restaurant business and always had a romantic idea of
following in their father’s footsteps and owning a place of our own.
In 2011, an opportunity arose to become partners in Sophie’s Place and they jumped at the chance.
Sophie’s was a perfect fit for Keon and his brothers and they saw an opportunity to add value due to
their love of good food, good beer and customer service.
Keon’s passion for the business eventually led him to become the full time manager.
In the last two years, Keon has dedicated himself to learning all about beer and now that he manages
Sophie's, he tries to keep the best and most rare beers on the menu.

Today we talk with Tracy Hopkins homemaker, wife and mother of two.
She is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Hermosa Beach Neighborhood Watch (http://saferhermosabeach.com),
a two-term commissioner of the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission,
and an Emergency Preparedness committee member for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
She helped to introduce and facilitates the 9 step disaster response training program - Map Your Neighborhood (MYN) throughout the South Bay.
The program helps to connect neighbors and trains them on how to secure their home and protect their neighborhood after a disaster.
She has been serving as a volunteer in the City of Hermosa Beach for over 6 years.
She has also reached out into the South Bay community at large as an advocate and freely shares her expertise and concern for the safety of all communities.

Today Jackie and I talk with Stephanie Martin, Crime Prevention/Public Information Officer for the City of Manhattan Beach.
Officer Stephanie Martin was born and raised in the South Bay.
She holds an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from El Camino College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science with Chapman University.
Stephanie began her career in law enforcement with the City of Redondo Beach in 1988, as a Crime Prevention Specialist.
In this assignment, she was responsible for the preparation and presentation of various crime prevention programs,
presented safety information to schools and interacted with service clubs, groups and associations to improve community relations.
