Our guest this morning is Holly Crawford from El Segundo Museum of Art.

Holly is an artist, educator and art advocate living and working in Los Angeles. Since 2008, Holly has worked with school, family, teen and adult audiences as a museum educator and is currently the Manager of Education at ESMoA, an art laboratory in El Segundo, California.

Holly's studio practice is based on play and collaboration. She frequently collaborates with young people and artists to tell stories about SHE-roes and heroes, community, and family.

This morning, we’re going to learn about ESMoA Experience #33 Awkward which is opening tonight. I attended the Opening Reception last weekend and the team at ESMoA has put together what will certainly be another huge hit of an exhibit.

Our guest this morning is Sylvia Gayed, Owner of Manhattan Tax & Accounting.

Sylvia has more than 15 years of experience in tax and accounting. After earning a BS degree with an emphasis in finance and accounting, she worked as a financial analyst and was hired by Deloitte Consulting as a controller. She opened Manhattan Tax & Accounting in 2005 to provide various accounting services including individual, business, corporate and LLC tax preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping, payroll and business incorporation. Sylvia has distinguished herself as a one-stop accounting firm handling all her client’s tax and accounting needs.

With tax season just around the corner, now is the time to start planning, and this morning, Sylvia is going to give us a few tips on preparing for April 15.

Our guest this morning is Jenna Christensen.

Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Jenna is a Global Real Estate Advisor at Engel & Völkers South Bay. Jenna is also the driving force behind the monthly community beautification effort at Seaside Heroes Park in Torrance.

The second Saturday of every month, community volunteers get down and dirty at Seaside Heroes Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to lend a hand cleaning, weeding, and dead heading. Even though the park is small, it’s a huge job to keep it looking good. As of January 2018, there are over 900 work hours in this project. This is a labor of love and the organizers are immensely grateful to anyone who gives their time.

This morning, Jenna is going to give us the back story on the park and what it takes to maintain it.

Our guests this morning are Redondo Beach residents and activists Paul Moses, Arnette Travis, Chris Voisey and Pat Healy

Paul Moses was born in 1965 at Little Company of Mary in Torrance and has lived his entire life in Hollywood Riviera and Redondo Beach. He attended St. Lawrence Martyr in Redondo, South Torrance High School, and Loyola Marymount University. 

Arnette has been in the financial services’ industry since 1988. After working for NYSE member firms as a stockbroker/financial advisor, she transitioned her practice in 2010 to that of an Independent Advisor to better serve her clients and in 2015 formed AT Life, a life insurance advisory firm. 

Chris Voisey is a 30 year veteran of the Software Industry, focused on Next Generation Technology (i.e., what we will all be doing next.) For the past decade, he has been Chief Technology Officer for several companies worldwide and helped many of the Fortune 500 builds out and implement Mobile App Strategies. 

Redondo Beach resident Pat Healy was added to the panel at the last minute so we don’t have a full bio for him. He’s a musician and active member of the community, attending numerous meetings every month and keeping a finger on the pulse of the local population.

This morning, we’re going to discuss the recent NIMBY trend suppressing any type of progress in Redondo Beach and more specifically, the ugly instances of racism and ageism my guests have experienced personally.

Our guests this morning are Ed Lynch, Founder of Mychal’s Learning Place and Misty Frasier, from the Carvel Frasier Group at Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

Ed Lynch founded Mychal’s Learning Place in 2001 in honor of his daughter, Mychal. At the age of two it became apparent that she was developmentally and physically disabled. Mychal passed away at the young age of 7 1/2. As a result, Ed has dedicated his life to creating programs that enable youth and adults with developmental disabilities to live independent, fulfilled and productive lives. 

Misty Frasier is a Memphis native and co-founder of the Carvel Frasier Group at Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Manhattan Beach. She has worked in several real estate markets including Las Vegas where she lived for many years before planting roots in Los Angeles in the late 90's. Her knowledge of diverse markets has enabled her to provide a top level of service to her residential and investor clientele. Misty is as passionate about her volunteer work as she is about her career. 

This morning, we’re going to learn about the various programs Mychal’s Learning Place offers and the upcoming Disco Bingo event taking place on Saturday, February 3 at 7 p.m.

Our guests this morning are Hermosa Beach City Council Member Hany Fangary, Georgia Moe, Division Manager for the HBPD Community Services Division and Leeanne Singleton, Environmental Analyst in the Hermosa Beach City Manager’s Office.

In addition to his City Council duties, Hany Fangary also serves as the City of Hermosa Beach’s delegate to the South Bay Cities Council of Governments and the Contract Cities Association.  He also serves as a member of the SBCCOG Stormwater Funding Options Committee and the SBCCOG Homeless Services Taskforce.  Hany also serves as Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles County Superior Courts.  

Georgia Moe is the Division Manager for the Hermosa Beach Police Department Community Services Division and oversees all aspects of parking enforcement, animal control services, community outreach, Volunteers in Policing, and Neighborhood Watch. 

Leeanne Singleton is an Environmental Analyst working in the City Manager’s Office for the City of Hermosa Beach. She has a passion for engaging the community in the development and implementation of long-range land use planning, transportation, and sustainability policies. 

The City of Hermosa Beach is planning a Community-Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, January 27. This isn’t just your average run of the mill garage sale – there’s a lot more to it than that – and this morning, we’re going to learn what the city is hoping to accomplish.

Beach Cities Symphony - Music Director, Barry Brisk

Barry Brisk first conducted in public at the age of fourteen, when he performed selections from South Pacific at his graduation from Webster Junior High School in West Los Angeles.

As a student, he also conducted the orchestras at University High School, Mount St. Mary's College, and the University of Music (formerly Academy of Music) in Vienna, Austria where he studied with the prominent conductor/teacher Hans Swarowsky.

Professionally, Brisk has conducted many orchestras in Southern California, as well as in Mexico and Austria.

 

Maestro Brisk has been Music Director of the Beach Cities Symphony since 1994 and is particularly proud of having expanded the orchestra's repertoire. 

He has conducted works by more than eighty composers, more than a dozen of whom are living.
