She's a long-time and active resident of the South Bay, engaged in Neighborhood Watch, Toastmasters, Gals Starting Over and the Torrance Chamber, providing education and enthusiastic support. She also enjoys running on the trails and beaches throughout the South Bay.

Our guest this morning is Kathleen Terry, Founder of Participative Management Systems.

Kathleen is well known for her high-impact seminars and workshops based on the most critical issues facing managers and supervisors.  She has presented programs both nationally and internationally to organizations as diverse as high-tech firms, local and metropolitan city and county governments, leading defense/aerospace contractors and major health management organizations. She is also an instructor with Caltech’s Industrial Relations Center.  As a result of her past work in the areas of productivity and employee participation, she was accepted into Who's Who of California and was made a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Kathleen has served as the Facilitator for Leadership Pasadena, Leadership Hermosa Beach, Leadership Redondo Beach and Leadership Manhattan Beach. In addition, she is on the Board of the Volunteer Center of the South Bay, President of Manhattan Beach Rotary, and is actively involved with the South Bay Literacy Council. As a contract instructor with a nationally known company, The Training Clinic, Kathleen conducts a variety of train-the-trainer workshops. She is as comfortable in public workshop sessions as with in-company presentations.

Kathleen will be a presenter at this year’s South Bay Business Leaders Summit scheduled for Tuesday, May 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Marriott. Her topic is ‘Upping Your Networking’.

Our guests this morning are Jay Dee Morgan and Thomas Chang Co-Founders of Manna Rowing.

Jay Dee Morgan has been rowing since his senior year of high school for a total of 12 years now. He rowed for UC San Diego for 4 years and then went on to coach for the Long Beach Junior Crew, a national champion crew, and was Master Rowing Instructor for UCanRow2. He has also rowed for elite clubs in NYC and Philly.

Thomas Chang also rowed at UC San Diego, graduated from USC with his MPA, and has been a martial artist for 15 years.

This spring, Manna invited the community to the launch of the Manna Indoor Rowing Club, for all ages in 4th to 12th grades and adult programs. There is also a boot camp style training program for high school athletes looking to be recruited by university crew teams. The program started on Monday, March 13 at the Hermosa Beach Community Center. Classes are from 4 to 8 pm, Monday through Thursday. Our guests this morning are Leslie Aitchison and Nancy Whitehead-Smith from the Torrance Community Credit Union.

Lesley Aitchison rejoined Torrance Community Credit Union a year and a half ago, as the Lending Manager.  After spending 5 years at TCCU early in her career, she worked for 20 years at a large local-area credit union, holding positions in Lending, and Employee Training and Development and she’s thrilled to be back. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in Public Administration, she pursued a career in the financial industry and found her calling in credit unions.

Nancy Whitehead-Smith is the Marketing Manager at Torrance Community Credit Union. For the past 12 years, she has headed the marketing department, which includes developing and managing promotions, producing quarterly newsletters and other communications, managing the Credit Union website, digital signage, advertising, and providing technical support to members for online and mobile banking platforms. Prior to her employment at TCCU, she worked in public relations as an account executive serving in the high-tech, cable, and television industries. 

This morning, we’re going to learn about the services offered by the Torrance Community Credit Union to the South Bay community.

Our guest this morning is photographer, and former Los Angeles District Attorney, Gil Garcetti.

Before becoming a photographer, Gil spent 32 years as a prosecutor with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. He was the elected District Attorney for eight years from 1992 to 2000. In addition to overseeing high profile prosecutions, Gil directed his 1,100 prosecutors to focus their efforts on more effectively addressing domestic violence and on specific programs designed to prevent crime. After Gil left office in 2000, he taught a seminar entitled “The Interaction of the Criminal Justice System, Race, Politics and the Media.” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Since leaving the District Attorney’s office, Gil has focused on his professional efforts as a photographer, UNESCO Ambassador, speaker, and television producer. His first photo book, Iron: Erecting the Walt Disney Concert Hall, was published in 2003. Six additional books have been published since. Gil has had numerous solo exhibitions of his photography around the world including the United Nations, New York; National Building Museum, Washington D.C.; UNESCO, Paris, France; Millennium Art Museum, Beijing, China; Vienna International Center, Vienna, Austria; and the New York Center for Performing Arts, New York among others.

Gil is the Keynote Speaker at this year’s South Bay Business Leaders’ Summit which takes place on Tuesday, May 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Manhattan Beach Marriott.

Our guests this morning are Kobi Apprey and Marisol Rios from the Automobile Driving Museum.

Kobi Apprey has been the Special Events Director for the Automobile Driving Museum for the last two years.  She manages and books all private events at the museum and runs the logistics for all in-house events.  She has over 10 years of experience running a wide variety of events in differing types of venues and a Dual Masters in International Sports Management.

Marisol Rios is the Marketing and Operations Assistant and Docent Manager at the Automobile Driving Museum. She handles everything from museum events, such as car shows and educational events, to bringing in new docents and coordinating with them on helping and maintaining vehicles. Marisol also handles social media promoting the events, and administrative tasks. She has worked at five different museums before moving to the ADM, which has provided her with the experience necessary to manage the museum.

This morning, we’ll learn about one of the upcoming events at the ADM… it’s called Jalopies at the Juice Joint and takes place on Saturday, April 8 from 7 to 11 p.m. It sure sounds like a lot of fun!

Our guest this morning is Sione Toufa from T’s Toe Rings & Gifts now located on the Redondo Pier.

Sione Toufa is from the island of Tonga located between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer. He’s the owner of T’s Toe Rings & Gifts established in November 1984 at the first location at 104 International Boardwalk in a storefront that was only 60 square feet. The second shop on the Boardwalk was 110 square feet, followed by a third space which was 1,012 square feet. Now, T’s Toe Rings & Gifts is located on the Pier itself and has been in business for 22 years.

Rachel Thomas is a 16 year veteran of Manhattan Beach Middle School with 22 years teaching experience. She is currently in the English Department and is the teacher and advisor for the MBMS student newspaper. She loves technology and thrives on ways to bring it into the classroom, wanting students to learn the skills and critical thinking they will need to be successful in any undertaking. She joined the MB Chamber in 2014 when they first brought the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) to Manhattan Beach, and has worked on developing and teaching the program since then. The first class began in 2015, and she is excited about this next year of the program and helping students fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams !
