Our guests this morning are Lynne Gross and Nancy Meyer from the Manhattan Beach Roundhouse Aquarium.
Lynne Gross has been involved with the Roundhouse Aquarium in Manhattan Beach since 2009. She started as a volunteer and was soon on the Board of Directors. She just finished a two-year term as President of the Board. Her career involved television, but when she retired in 2007, she decided she wanted to give back to Manhattan Beach (her home since 1961), help teach science to young children, and learn more about the animals that were in her ‘front yard’. Volunteering at the Aquarium fulfilled all three goals. She is a block captain for Neighborhood Watch and an occasional reporter or copy editor for The Beach Reporter.
Nancy Meyer is a professional fundraiser and development consultant for nonprofits. She began her association with Manhattan Beach’s Roundhouse Aquarium in January 2016. Before segueing to the nonprofit world, Nancy was a television and film development executive whose range of experience included feature films, movies-for-television, mini-series, and series for both network and cable. Nancy served as head of development at NBC Universal Television Studios for the Columbo franchise and is a member of Mystery Writers of America.
This morning, we’re going to learn about the annual Sea Starry Night fundraising event for the Roundhouse Aquarium taking place on Tuesday, October 25.

Our guest this morning is Michael Zislis of The Zislis Group.
A visionary entrepreneur, restaurateur, hotelier and philanthropist, Michael Zislis has captivated consumers with a cavalcade of much loved and highly successful establishments.
In 2000, he introduced Rock’N Fish, a seafood and steak house in Manhattan Beach. Since then, he has opened additional Rock’N Fish restaurants.
Adding hotelier to his titles, in 2004 Michael transformed an urban revitalization project in Manhattan Beach into the area’s first and only luxury boutique hotel, Shade. Shade was listed on Conde Nast Traveler’s Hot List in 2007, in addition to being the magazine’s #6 reason to visit Los Angeles. Shade was also named one of the top 25 trendiest hotels in the U.S. by Trip Advisor.
In 2012, in partnership with rock icons Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of the rock band KISS, Michael opened Rock & Brews in El Segundo, a beer, comfort food and rock and roll dining and entertainment concept that now has six locations open and an additional dozen under development.
Just last month, he opened the new Shade Hotel, at the water’s edge in Redondo Beach. This project is considered a cornerstone in the City of Redondo Beach’s waterfront revitalization project.
Michael, a father of six children, is also committed to supporting local charities and schools through his businesses. He currently sits on the foundation board at the Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

Since her graduation from University of California at San Diego in 1987 with a BS degree in communications, Marci Klein has dedicated her career to the reality TV genre. She is currently a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Producer's Guild of America. She's produced, directed and written for some of the most recognizable programs in syndication, cable and Network Television, including Celebrity Boxing, Elimidate, Dr. Phil, The Swan, The Insider and several others. One of Marci's talents is to tell stories and when interviewing non-professionals, she has a way of making the subject comfortable in front of the camera, which makes for a more gripping story. Marci has had numerous nominations and earned a Los Angeles Emmy Award for her work with the Blind Children's Center. She also received a Cable Ace Award for work with the Los Angeles Fire Department. Her early work aired at the "Women in Film" and "Mill Valley" Film Festivals. With over 20 years in the television field, Marci is now telling stories for real people. In addition, she recently became a sport pilot through Pacific Blue Air in order to operate her drones legally.
This morning, we’ll discuss the services Marcie provides and get an update on her flights around the South Bay.

Our guests this morning are Stacey Held from the SKECHERS Foundation and Silas Cole from the Friendship Foundation.
Stacey Held has been with the SKECHERS Foundation since 2013 and is the Public Relations Manager for the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk.
Silas Cole has been the Programs Director since 2013 at the Friendship Foundation, a non-profit organization providing social-recreational programs for kids and young adults with special needs.
Started in 2009 by SKECHERS President, Michael Greenberg, the Pier to Pier Friendship Walk has raised over $5.5 million to support children with special needs and public education. Today, the SKECHERS Friendship Walk is the largest charity event in California that supports these two causes; with over 13,000 participants joining for SKECHERS’ signature charity event in 2015 alone. Funds raised from the Walk support The Friendship Foundation, an organization that assists children with special needs and their families through one-on-one peer mentoring and social recreational programming – as well as funding education foundations to retain vital academic programs, maintain smaller class sizes, improve libraries, and upgrade school technology.
This morning, we’re going to get all the details on the eighth annual SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk which takes place on Sunday, October 23 at 9 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

She is the leader of the "Academy of Handmade" South Bay Chapter of Los Angeles, a Redondo Beach Chamber Member, and is active in several community organizations.
