Our guest this morning is Sandy Miller from Kaiser Permanente South Bay.

Sandy serves as an Assistant Medical Group Administrator at Kaiser Permanente South Bay.  She oversees adult primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, maternal child health, operations at all out-patient medical office buildings, member health education, and much more.  A physical therapist by training, Sandy has worked in health care for nearly twenty years, the last nine of which have been at Kaiser Permanente. 

A native of the South Bay, Sandy was raised in Torrance.  She earned her Bachelor degree in Exercise Physiology, Master’s degree in Physical Therapy at USC, and her MBA at UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business. Sandy serves on the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and enjoys giving back to the community.

This morning, we’ll discuss the partnership between Kaiser and the Chamber and the recently opened new Kaiser Permanente Medical Office in Manhattan Beach - the first in the beach cities!  We’ll also discuss the broader work Kaiser is doing to build a healthier community, as well as efforts to improve the patient experience with new technologies.

Years ago, stay-at-home mom Amy was at a crossroads. Gas prices were high, car payments were excessive and the trips she was taking weren't worth having to pile into her family's SUV. It wasn't long before she began looking into buying a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, a souped-up golf cart, to handle the day to day jaunts. Soon, she found her match: A six-seat T-Sport Cart, with room enough for her husband and three kids. Amy’s family switched over to one gas vehicle and one electric cart within the last year. But in order to buy their ride, they had to head to Orange County.

Now Amy is the owner of E3 Vehicles located in Redondo Beach and she’s busy preaching the gospel of neighborhood electric vehicles to the people of the Beach Cities. Once entrenched in the world of medical sales before leaving to raise her family, Amy was feeling the itch to dive back into business. A bit of research proved to her that the market for Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, such as the cart that she owns, is widely underserved in the Beach Cities. The South Bay Council of Governments found as much to be true in their assessment of NEV’s, published in June 2013.

This morning, we’re going to learn all about the relatively new realm of the neighborhood electric vehicle with Amy as our guide.

We have a very special group of guests this morning – Lucy, Lulu and Lorrie, the Lobsta Ladies from the Redondo Beach Lobster Festival and joining them is Bobby Christian from the Redondo Beach Chamber.

The wildly popular Lobsta Ladies have been part of the Lobster Festival since it started in 1995. These vivacious crustaceans live for the last weekend in September when they can strutt their stuff, dance to the music, and take pictures with their numerous fans at the Lobster Festival. Babies, toddlers, teens, couples, singles and grandmas - everyone loves having their picture taken with the Lobstas Ladies as part of their festival experience. You never know what the Lobstas will get up to….back in 2003, several of the Lobsta Ladies took over the dance floor during the Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner! Festival attendees will want to watch for flailing claws as the lobstas get their groove on!

This morning, we’re going to hear all about the 2016 Redondo Beach Lobster Festival taking place this weekend at Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach.
