Our guests this morning are Gerry Athas-Vazquez and Julie Nunis, Co-Founders of the Theatre Lovers Conservatory.

Gerry Athas-Vazquez lives in Hermosa Beach where she raised her three sons. She is a full-time Realtor with RE/MAX and is celebrating her 10th anniversary as a realtor here in the South Bay. Gerry is also Co-owner of Uncorked, The Wine Shop and The Deck in Hermosa. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Hermosa Arts Foundation where she is Secretary. Gerry earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts from St. John’s University NY. She is a graduate of the Second City Comedy Writers Program and like nearly everyone in LA, Gerry has written a couple of screenplays.

Julie Nunis is a Hermosa resident, wife and mother of two daughters. She graduated from the University of Texas with a BFA in Drama and studied acting at the Actors Center in NYC before coming to LA to work in TV/Film/Theatre. Julie assisted Broadway producer, Joan Stein, on Steve Martin’s play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile shows in NY/SF/Chicago. She took a break from Hollywood to raise her two daughters before directing Love Letters by A.R. Gurney at Hermosa’s 2nd Story Theatre, working with local business owners and local celebrities.

This morning, we’re going to learn about the newly formed Theatre Lovers Conservatory and a fundraiser which will take place at Uncorked on Saturday, September 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Lisa’s career has been spent almost entirely in the nonprofit arena. She has spent 30 years leading fundraising, marketing and fund development efforts for emerging nonprofit organizations in the areas of healthcare, education & social services, leveraging leadership and other key volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.

Lisa’s passion is fundraising for vital programs and services, empowering and stabilizing thousands of disenfranchised families. Lisa has raised money for a variety of causes including economic education, HIV/AIDS services, pregnant and parenting teens in foster care, public dental assistance, and youth and early childhood education services and currently is the Director of Development at South Bay Children’s Health Center.

Lisa is a California native who is married and has three children. She earned her BS in Marketing from California State University Long Beach, and her MBA with a Marketing emphasis at Loyola Marymount University. She also recently became a Lecturer in the Department of Business Management, teaching Nonprofit Management at Loyola Marymount University.

This morning, we’ll learn about the services the South Bay Children’s Health Center provides and a special event scheduled for July 16.

Steve began his career as a writer, adapting the novel “A Kind of Warfare” into a screenplay for the English Film Council. Steve’s credited feature films are “Love is the Drug” staring Lizzy Caplan and Darryl Hannah and “Privileged” staring Nicky Reed. Steve started developing cinema based live events in 2010 with Outdoor Cinema Food Fest and in 2012 with Street Food Cinema. His career has also moved into television where he was the event producer and MC for the History Channel’s “National History Bee” competition hosted by Al Roker. Steve’ is currently working on an Imax film about the Wright Brothers and their invention of the first airplane titled “Kitty Hawk” for Flyers Productions.

This morning, Steve is going to tell us about the always popular Manhattan Movie Nights, the first of which took place in August and the next one which is scheduled for Saturday, September 17 at the Manhattan Beach Marriot golf course.

Our guest this morning is Arnette Travis from the Redondo Beach “Waterfront Crew”.

Arnette has been in the financial services’ industry since 1988. After working for NYSE member firms as a stockbroker/financial advisor, she transitioned her practice in 2010 to that of an Independent Advisor to better serve her clients and in 2015 formed AT Life, a life insurance advisory firm. Her mission is to help individuals and small business owners become financially secure without taking undue risks. She specializes in guaranteed lifetime income streams, tax advantaged benefits and estate protection.

A 25+ year resident of Redondo Beach, Arnette is a member of the 2015 Leadership Redondo Class and is actively involved in her community. She has been a member of the North Redondo Beach Business Association for 15+ years and is the secretary of the organization.

Arnette is also a wellness advocate; she serves as a Blue Zones Project® Ambassador and is currently writing a book on cultural issues.

The Waterfront Crew is working with CenterCal on the proposed Waterfront development and Arnette is going to bring us up to date on where the project currently stands.
