This week the SOSS fam is battening the hatches for a Minnesota winter. Amy was up north checking on her cabin - she expected the worst…muskrats playing the banjo, beavers chewing on the wall, raccoons doing stuff, etc. Spoiler alert: none of that happened. Everything is fine. Maya & Producer Tyler got a fancy new golden outdoor spigot. Amy explains her husband’s long-time war with woodpeckers. Amy has a DWTS update. P.S. Tyra is still unhinged. Maya goes ax throwing. Amy relives a terrible “Plenty of Fish” date that involves three jumpy huskies, an aggressive cat, getting lost on the way to a free zoo, and sharing a free coupon pizza. It’s the good kind of daylight savings where you fall back and get an extra hour of sleep. Sorry night shift…IYKYK. Also, can we all agree “Spring Forward” is the worst? Maya is excited to watch the Flaming Lips bubble concert movie (on Criterion Channel?) to see if she and Producer Tyler are in it. The ladies talk about angry 80’s dads and how they just yell at you for no reason. Also, everyone’s dad took the bus to work in the 80s. Amy recounts how her friend Sarah M. pulled some stunts that really upset an 80s dad that involved a diaper and a toy mixer in the toilet. Finally, this week’s Approved/Denied features the Home Depot 12-foot skeleton. 

 Mind your Ps & Qs - producer Tyler is back in the studio! It’s Halloween weekend and both the ladies are exhausted. Concert Report: Durry at the Fine Line while decked out in skeleton costumes. Amy learns a tortilla with sauce and cheese is not good but does “give the energy of pizza”. Amy and Maya try to figure out why that Bat Girl movie will never see the light of day. Maya reviews a birthday party where they had pickleball, cider, and crepes. Amy hates that it’s called pickleball. Amy is really getting into The Americans with “Felicity” and Dope Sick with Michael Keaton. It’s fun to have new shows…even if they are old! Amy recounts a Colorado trip with her mom Marsh and her antics. Buckle up for Amy’s hilarious Marsh impressions! Also, you’ll never believe how Marsh likes to “freshen up” after a flight.

It’s fall but it’s 78 degrees on SOSS Street. It’s a really rich tapestry this week. Maya’s sisters can’t believe Amy hasn’t seen Goonies. Amy promises to watch it. Who doesn’t love Martha Plimpton?!?! The ladies agree that Empty Nest was a really great show even if you are in elementary school. Sylvester Stallone is on a TV show now? And it isn’t even on regular TV! Also, his character’s name is Dwight Manfreddy. Amy is optimistic about it because…Stallone. Maya is really loving acupuncture. Amy is very excited about Taylor Swift’s new album, Midnights. Maya listened to the first 15 seconds of each song. Concert Report: Maren Morris! Maya and Amy discuss whether touring as a musician is exhausting or magic freedom. Maya optimistically bought tickets to a show in January. Fun fact: when Lizzo is in town she plays tennis where Amy and Maya play tennis. Fashion Report: Pants are trying to do too much right now! Animal Report: Rescued Ekranian lions. Amy is on her way to a frat party…sort of, and wonders if you can bring a dog to a frat party. Approved/Denied: Arby’s Bourbon. Enjoy!

Maya threw her back out at advanced tennis so now she’s on drugs for this podcast. All the elderly gentlemen at tennis were suddenly very interested in her and wanted to talk about ailments. Amy’s going to Colorado to visit her son. She’s planning on driving through the mountains with her mom and if you know Marsh that potentially involves a lot of screaming. Amy is skipping parents’ weekend. Maya recounts how she skipped most of college orientation to go to a music festival.

Maya and Producer Tyler are trying to replace their favorite fall festival. It’s unclear whether Maya did or did not get French fries at a fair while being the subject of mistaken identity. Maya wins bingo twice! The bingo callers were acting nuts like an SNL sketch. Amy explains why pull tabs are not as satisfying as bingo.

RIP to 90210’s Joe E. Tata - Amy and Maya take a shallow dive into his weird random career. The ladies muse about how tv show finales are never satisfying. They are always disappointing. Maya doesn’t care about The Queen. She also doesn’t believe they were dragging her body around in a box from country to country. Amy thinks the new King is crabby. How do people go to the bathroom in that 20-hour line?

Maya reviews the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once and discusses how actor James Hong is in everything ever made. Amy admits she’s never watched the movie Goonies. Maya can’t even. Finally, Maya explains the origins of the phrase “Jumping the shark” to Amy.

Amy replays her latest concert adventure seeing Def Leopard, Joan Jett, Poison, & Mötley Crüe. The takeaway: this audience was bananas - a real human soup. Surprisingly a lot of young people! Moms with sons and tons of Gen Zers with their stiff high waisted jeans. She and her husband ask the important question, “Is Joan Jett really enjoying touring anymore?” Amy is suddenly Bret Michaels' biggest fan. Spoiler alert: Bret Michaels wears his own t-shirt, and Amy suspects he has someone hand sand the crotch of his jeans. Maya asks the question how is Mick Mars still alive? The ladies discuss how old rockers start to look weird, like the lead singer from Def Leopard, who has a haircut that makes him look like Amy's mom's best friend Cindy. Amy finally clears up the NSFW difference between Poison and Mötley Crüe. Maya also has concert reports for Cabana Boy and a backyard concert featuring a Tom Petty cover band. 

This week's episode kicks off with Animal Report: Dog barf! Then moves into Concert Report: Pre-analyzing the Joan Jett, Def Leopard, Poison, & Motley Crue concert. The big question is...what do you wear to this? Maya gets Joan Jett and Pat Benatar confused. Amy somehow makes money on this pandemic postponed concert. Why is the BeReal app trying to make us all ugly? In a second Animal Report, the gals champion Freya the Walrus and Maya decide there should be a national animal rescue team that gets the same budget as the military. Seems reasonable. Next up, Alec Baldwin and the FBI and the tragedy of. Anne Heche. Amy recounts how her friend’s house burnt down and claimed it was the most fun time of his life because he went shopping every day. The ladies discuss how they are baffled by kids who know exactly what they want to be when they grow up. In a second pre-concert report, Maya is going to the Lemonheads at First Avenue which was her first concert at First Avenue. Indian Matchmaking is back! Dee Snider jumps on the Beto train! Amy is exhausted by politics. Finally, this week’s lesson might not be a healthy approach to life but it sure beats worrying about everything all the time.

Well, it's a wild ride here on SOSS street this week. This week's episode starts off with some nice middle-aged talk about gout, yard work, orthotics, and the library then quickly moves like a Bullet Train into a rapid-fire pop-culture topic spree of epic proportions. Maya recounts her $50 pizza from a newish local restaurant and realizes she has a history of overpaying for pizza. Next Amy and Maya discuss the movie Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt and that Sundays are made for Jason Statham movies. Next, the ladies imagine what NFL coaches actually said to The Rock when he was booted from the league for not being good enough. Then Maya poses the question, "Would you buy tickets to a U2 'residency' in an area?" promoting Amy to relive seeing U2's Joshua Tree revival tour and crying with joy. Questions are asked:

Amy is really mad at Taika Waititi because he’s upset about the use of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill in Strangers Things. This brings us to the golden rule…don’t yuck someone’s yum! Then the ladies discuss Minnesota accidentally legalizing THC edibles. Amy tells her story featuring “Sweet Pea” singer Tommy Roe that involves a lasting scar. Next, Maya and Amy disagree with Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the worst songs of the 90s. And ask the question…what makes a “bad” song? Finally, Animal Report features a bi-pedal dog.

This week the ladies think the Fourth of July Hits Different This Year considering everyone has fewer rights than they did 6 weeks ago. Amy recounts mistaking a robot for a real person in the sporting goods store. Amy diagnoses Maya’s foot pain. Amy and Maya decide the full name for their local grocery chain, CUB (Consumers United for Buying) sounds like communism. Amy runs through some of her Costco favorites including what her family affectionately calls Chicken Street..tacos. Maya reviews the movie Hustle starring Adam Sandler and Queen Latifa. The ladies discuss Brittney Griner being detained in Russia and the lack of action from the government. They ask would this be happening if it were Tom Brady? Also, they decide let's just trade that arms dealer for Brittney already!
